@@latentspacediffusion You can always ask friends and also look around and find empty 5 Gal. water bottles that are still water tight that can be used for no cost but some time.
It's simple math... water weighs 8.34 pounds/gallon. 5 gallon jug filled weighs 41.7 pounds. So... Empty, it can displace 41.7 pounds of water. Calculate how many pounds the raft needs to hold and still float. Then calculate how many jugs you need to equal that weight. Done!
It's even much simpler if you use SI units. Assuming: Density of water = 1000 kg/m3 (or simply 1kg/Litre) Target carrying capacity = 300 kg standard 5 gallon jug volume in SI units = 18.9 litres Lets first calculate the buoyancy provided by the bottles. Each 18.9-liter bottle can displace 18.9 kg of water, which means it can provide up to 18.9 kg of buoyancy. To support a 300 kg load, the total buoyancy required is 300 kg. calculation procedure: 1. Total buoyancy needed: 300 kg 2. Buoyancy provided by each bottle: 18.9 kg 3. Number of bottles needed: 300kg ÷ 18.9 kg/bottle =15.87 bottles Thus, you need about 16 containers of standard 18.9-liter water dispenser bottles to create a boat that can carry a 300 kg capacity.

Looks a better option would be to have some bottles filled with foam instead of having the foam touching the water directly. That or take a sheet of plastic to act as a barrier between the foam and the water.
The water jug one has potential... I would connect all the jugs inside one another to one, make it sturdier..then pump the entire thing up with more air or even helium and lose the foam its un necessary
You missed the point entirely. The foam is being used to stabilize the jugs against moving in relation to each other. Any movement allows flex which can start to weaken the structure.
@@slashhamby4663 May I ask how you would propose to do that? Keeping in mind that any holes below the water line are a leakage risk and polyethylene isn't the easiest plastic to glue.
They could put up what they're using, like what wood or which products! All good ideas for a bit of fun, but if the bottle boat wood got wet would it be ok? Shouldnt he have put something on it to weatherproof it? Great ideas for wasting your time, but fun all the same!
