I would say, one thing, or two: 1)If you learn to type, do it properly, i tried 6-7 finger method for several years, I thought it was efficient, but when I started to do it 100% right, I slowed down to 12 wpm, but after 4 days I've bocome more accurate, and even faster tham before (1 hour on keybr everyday). Right finger placment has 100% mire patantiinal 2)Try to acheve accuracy, I mean make no mustake. Don't try to achieve super speed, do it in a cimfortable way, you should look calm. You might not believe it, but the most of my records were hit when I didn't try to type fast, I was concertrated. P.s highly recommend you to use keybr and maximum text size, with punctuation signs on. That's how I do that, it's quite easy, quick to get used to, and handy.
i started learning touch typing on keybr today my average was around 45 wpm with only index and middle finger and i can tell you, it's a whole new experience (using your pinky is hard af)
I totally get that! Right now I'm getting used to advanced typing tests ad its a whole new feeling - stay tuned for that video and thank you so much for taking the time to watch my video I really appreciate that :)
You can be too! Everything I have learned is from RUclips so I'll be giving back with the most important tips I have learned in a new video coming soon. Stay Tuned!
6:49 and 7:01 there's your problem. Pro-tip always stick to one keyboard and try to use the same one to train your muscle memory. Instead of shuffling between laptop keyboard and external keyboard. Each keyboard is different, if you keep shuffling the keyboards, you'll again take some time to re-adjust and recallibrate to the new keyboard and hence losing the flow.
Looking back at this video a few months later (and with a new typing video planned out), I completely agree with you! Thanks for leaving your comment and for checking out the video :)
This is the same experience on my touch typing journey to the word. Happy to see someone experience the same challenge. Also learn to type with proper finger placement and start from zero then increase your accuracy. Trust me ive been there and starrting your finger memory from scratch may be slow on first but will break that 90 wpm barrier.
I don't know why I never thought of practicing typing on one screen while watching RUclips on another. This kept me more mentally stimulated enough to make me practice for longer periods.
It's a great way to make those long practice session seem no t so bad, though, I've felt that as I have gotten fast I need to focus more on the typing itself - thus I have switched to podcasts to stay both stimulated and focused. More information like this is to come in the part 2 of this video so stay tuned!
Matt Bison I understand. You’ll laugh, but I JUST got to the point where I’m hitting 54 WPM sometimes, so I’ve got hours and hours of repetitive practice to go. Thank goodness for the videos, music and other things I can do at the same time. Looking forward to part 2.
Accuracy is everything. If you're doing it wrong, you're training yourself wrong. Focus on accuracy and the speed will come. This kind of thing naturally takes a while.

Yupp, the major thing you need to keep in mind is accuracy. Don't worry about your speed. When you see your speed is actually increasing along with your accuracy, then you will be amazed at some point in time. I was stuck on 55 wpm and the mistake I was doing is that I would try to force myself to type as fast as possible without giving a damn to my accuracy. Then I realized that this way it wouldn't work. So, after that, I mainly focused on my accuracy, to achieve not below the 98% of target on accuracy. However, sometimes I would go below 98% accuracy and hit around 96%-97%. But, then as soon as I realize that my main goal is accuracy not speed, I would go back on my terms and try to maintain consistent accuracy. Conclusion: Now, I am way above my previous speed of 55 wpm and reached the 65 wpm mark. At 55 wpm, my accuracy would be around 91%-93%. But at 65 wpm with the prime aim of the accuracy of 98% actually, my accuracy got better and better along with my speed and my accuracy is around 99% at the present context. If I complete 30 races of typing per day, my accuracy would be almost 99%-100% in more than 26 races on average and 98% for the rest of the races. Note: I have used other platforms as well. But if you want to get the real feel of typing along with some toughness. Try type racer. This is the platform that I use. Plus my personal best is 86WPM with 98% accuracy and right now I am on average of 65WPM. And, by the way, amazing video.
For such a small channel this is a really good video, no joke man. Some parts were a lil dragged out but overall i learned from it without cringing (which tbh nowadays is an achievement lmao). I can see you going places bro just dont give up on this!
Hey All Kinds thank you so much for taking the time to watch my video and leave your comment. I really do appreciate the feedback! I'm still relatively new to this and just trying to learn how to get better and what exactly my style is - your constructive criticism really does mean a lot to me for that reason and the videos are not going to stop coming! Thanks again for watching this video and I look forward to seeing what the future brings :)
I work as a programmer so im basically typing all day, and my natural typing technique involves all fingers on the left hand and generally 2 plus the pinky for the return or backspace key on the right hand, and i type 80 wpm with this technique. I’ve started to learn 10 finger typing now, and am at about that same initial plateau of around 60/70 wpm but its difficult to switch to this technique now for programming because its slower and all the different symbols on the right which are frequently used in programming have to be typed with the pinky, which is a pain to be honest because its so many keys for the least agile finger. Good to see that there is a way beyond this initial plateau so I will keep trying!
I am at 45 WPM now whereas I was only an averegae 30 last week ....Touch typing has helped me a lot when it comes to accuracy ..... I would really love to see 90 or above one day......
I've always typed on a phone all my life. Typing on keyboard feels so incredibly strange, i am at 16wpm when I'm looking at the keyboard. Recently started learning touch typing after watching this and it's hella fun!
It is not a combination of random letters. The letter frequency is boosted for what you need to work on while providing you with a proper sonority hierarchy and plausible phonetics transferred to spelling. That is very hard to do, advanced algorithms need to be formulated and data capture need to be at its peak. It is amazing. Don't treat it like it is random letter combinations, that is degrading
How do you stop you’re self form looking down, I’m not even looking at the keys to type and my accuracy still stays about 98-100% closing my eyes so I have the keys memorized but I have a hard time looking at the screen for more than a minute nonstop
That's an interesting problem... but a good one to have! At least your accuracy is high! Maybe do tests that are not focused on accuracy, rather just trying to keep your eyes on the screen

Right now i type for 53 wpm, my highest was 63, hopefully i can get more. I was literally about to give up until i saw more people record their experience and then they actually grow and get better. It motivated me to keep going, hopefully i get to my goal which is 90. Edit: well i got 85 wpm which was not my goal but it was still pretty close, but I'm still happy about that
Yeah i have been at 20-30 my entire life really and am working on it so instead of 20 or 22 wpm consistently with 88-92% accuracy now 25-27 sometimes right above 30 and 95+ accuracy So I’m working to get 100 wpm
I'm a little confused. Fastfingers shows you typed 83 words per minute with one error. That would make your adjusted speed 82 words per minute. Unless they have a different way of calculating the score.
they probably have a different way of calculating it that includes your mistakes - because you still typed during that time. thats only my guess though!
Honestly when you practice a ton, you pretty much memorize where the keys are and you dont even have to really look at where the keys are. But if you practice while constantly looking down, you're never going to be able to test your memory. It'll be hard at first, but once you're able to do it, it'll make typing that much easier :D
I am an early teen and I am just like you.. I felt good knowing that everyone goes through that point where they are stuck and cant do better.. and accuracy helps them.. my highest is 94 wpm.. and I am too trying to get to 100

Honestly a random Amazon keyboard lol but I do have a mechanical keyboard review on the channel already with another coming on the way so stay tuned :)
Another thing that will happen, at least it happened with me is that I can tell when a type a word wrong just by the feel of how my fingers moved when I typed it.
@@alpay389 Hi, I think I kind of reached it. I'm able to hit 56 wpm but most of the time just around 40 and above. I've started my touch typing when I bought a new keyboard last December 22. I would continue practicing till I can constantly maintain 50.
I type in a speed around of 87 wpm. But in german. English is my next target. In english I type around 60 wpm now. But I discovered it for myself that accuracy is the main thing I have to concentrate on. But nice video, thanks for your upload!!11OneOneEleven
literally watched this video thinking there was something good here and you're literally doing what i already do except less and i already type 120 on average lmao
My highest was 93 wpm. Touch typing is a bit challenging for me because it just makes me mess up sometimes and it might be hard to rely on yourself to type that way but I am working on it. I used to be a really bad typer when I was like 13. The right amount of confidence and practice really push you the right way to do better. I am not the best at touch typing though.
@@imanebenrbia8534 Yep still making process. My best is 122 wpm and with an average of at least 108 wpm. I'm still trying to get more than that but it takes time. I feel like my fingers get lighter the faster I get. They used to feel so heavy when I started typing and now they feel like as light as feathers to me.
Really a great video love u Awesome story I m typing 3 hr for 7 days and 1 hr for a month and again 5 min for 15 days my typing speed is not going too abroad 35_45
not too sure about wired, but im fairly certain that logitech as a great bluetooth option for an alternative (but it does come with quite the price tag)
Hi bro! I am Mohith vignesh . I started touch typing from 4 days in keybr.com. I got upto letter M. I am struggling with lower case letters and function keys .So i started searching a solution solution for this.I found that we should type with hands having '' in and out'' movements , but they did not give clear explanation about this .Can u please help to make a video on hand movements while typing. It would be really helpfull
Trust me, you don't need fast typing for programming :) Coding takes a lot more problem solving and basic math so you should be fine (also if you really like programming than eventually you'll become fast learner of the languages) Don't give up!
When I started learning how to touch type two years ago, Keybr was actually the first site I tried for learning the keys (at least the letters) and got to around 90 wpm on it after 3-4 months of daily training. I moved on to ten fast fingers and my typing speed decreased to 55 wpm. After a two years I’m able to get up to at least 80 if I tried. However, I was stuck around 65 wpm for a long time, which is why it took so long. Within a few months your typing speed is actually decent to work with basic tasks. Coding is somewhat different though, since it frequently uses symbols that non-programmers don’t use very often. Nonetheless, good luck with your training! Try to stay dedicated to it, and you’ll type at a decent speed before you know it.
it shouldnt be too drastic - as you practice, you get used to the speed that you type. right now i type at about 110 and when i do the 1 minute one i drop down to between 100 and 105
I didn't type for years and I started at only 21 wpm (I know that's horrendous) after about 3 weeks I'm averaging 46 wpm. Don't give up no matter how bad you are at the beginning.
I saw you mention that you were carrying over bad habits from touch typing, which bad habits are those? I'm currently at about 45 wpm and really wanna get better. I'm learning touch typing and curious
some of the things i used to do were typing with some fingers and not others (when really you have 5, so you gotta USE 5) and also continuing to look down at the keyboard. those were some of the big ones because as soon as you break through those, youre able to increase your speed. 45 isnt bad though - you got this!
bro i want to ask you something , I am at average 60wpm but i am IT student and I only averages at common words provided by keybr abd fastfangers sites I want to be good at all keys including all symbols , symbols used while programming Should i learn these basic first and averages upto 80 90 wpm or start learning from basic with symbols keys ????🙏
I recommend that you just learn the basic keys first because you'll get used to the touch typing experience and you will also build up some typing confidence. From there, I would say move onto symbols as you'll have an advantage in that you'll already know how to type the other keys on the keyboard. I'm practicing something similar for a part 2 of this video - stay tuned!
i used to have 40wpm but now i started learning touch typing and at first i had around 15wpm, and now i have 20 - 30wpm. my goal is to go above my speed i have got before touch typing.
I started learning to touch type like 4-5 weeks ago and my average currently is 65 WPM while personal best is 75. Before this, I just used 2-3 fingers.... that hunt and peck method which got me to 50 on average but obviously wasn't healthy at all. I am happy with whatever progress I have made. Next goal is to get 80+ WPM constantly.
i wouldnt measure it by words. if youre slow, 500 words will take you forever. i would measure it by time. i spent around 20 minutes a day and slowly over time, the amount of tests/words i was typing a day increased - because i was getting faster. measure your progress by time and slowly youll see yourself get faster. hope that helps!
i started at about 5 to 10 WPM and one month later i am now able to hit the 35 to 40 WPM ............Not stopping tho.....currently my aim is atleast 60 to 70 with 90 % or above accuracy
My Average speed rn is around 27 wpm ,yeah i know that sucks...After seeing this video I've decided to commit myself to push for around 60 wps in a month. Let's see if it's going to work and btw you are among few who could motivate me into doing something 😄
@@amalthomas768 dude, that's amazing! i practiced a bit daily and went from i think 83wpm (super slow progress, i used to top at 70-sth wpm, too) to like 100wpm average, now topping at 120wpm but it's so inconsistent. you can do this :)
I always typed with only two fingers, I type on average over 80 WPM. Does it make sense to start typing with 10 fingers? It's really like starting (almost) from zero... I get like 45 WPM with ten fingers
I completely understand that. I think it's more of a long term situation. With 10 fingers, it open you up to getting even faster as time goes on. With two fingers, you're going to max out because there isn't enough volume on the keyboard
Ideally 10-20 minutes per day but I'm really competitive and if I get a score I don't like I usually stay on until I get a score I'm pleased with. Maximum: 35 mins
Ramstein, Germany, Canadian Air Force High School, 1965. Wilhelm takes typing class. To type? NO, of course not. To be in a room full of ladies, natch. But that typing course stuck with me forever. I've had speed tests show about 75 words per minute on a mechanical typewriter - not stellar but enough to support my PC habit all these years.
Hi, I'm typing different texts in typingmaster for like 2 hours daily but barely reaching 60wpm, practicing on 10fastfingers will make any difference? Btw love your video
I would strongly suggest 10fastfingers because it gives you the most common words but when it becomes too easy they also have the harder version. Not to mention their website is clean and not distracting to use! Begin with KeyBr if you're having trouble finding where the keys are. Thanks for taking your time to leave your comment and watch my video I really appreciate it!
Definitely! I'm making a part 2 of this video where I'm going to go in depth as to how I made my progress but it is a slow start. That said, once it picks up it is very hard to start - you'll be able to hit your goal in a month if you put in all the time!

I can type 55 wpm on average but my highest is 61 but in short bursts my highest is 87 won what should I do to average 90 wpm
practice, practice, practice. with time, you'll get there!
how do you not look at your keyboard- I always look down randomly somebody help
Honestly when you practice a ton, you pretty much memorize where the keys are and you dont even have to really look at where the keys are. But if you practice while constantly looking down, you're never going to be able to test your memory. It'll be hard at first, but once you're able to do it, it'll make typing that much easier :D
I am an early teen and I am just like you.. I felt good knowing that everyone goes through that point where they are stuck and cant do better.. and accuracy helps them.. my highest is 94 wpm.. and I am too trying to get to 100
That's awesome! You're going to get there soon!
@@MattBison wow! what a coincidence! I just hit 107 wpm today! I am feeling very happy

As a person aiming to get 120wpm consistently, I think this video worths nothing but a big thumb up! Great video and keep coming!😁
thank you so much i really appreciate it!
what's the keyboard in the thumbnail?
Honestly a random Amazon keyboard lol but I do have a mechanical keyboard review on the channel already with another coming on the way so stay tuned :)
With what finger do u type p and q
I prefer to use both my pinky's fingers :D
Another thing that will happen, at least it happened with me is that I can tell when a type a word wrong just by the feel of how my fingers moved when I typed it.
Which keyboard is urs
Right now I'm just sticking to my MacBook's keyboard but I'm thinking of picking something up!
Your cinematography here is better, good job
Thank you very much I really appreciate it!
I'm a need to use some of these tips Matt!
Haha thanks man! Trust me with your skill, you'll be typing faster than me in no time :D
@@MattBison Hehe, thanks Matt! Yeah, I hope so, but it'll be hard😅
i used to write only like 18 wpm now i cant write about 50 to 60 so I am getting somewhere
That's amazing progress!
Do you type using the homerow method?
I started a week ago at 23 wpm now at 45 wpm and further trying to increase the speed thanks dude
Awesome progress man!

Hope I can do 50 before 2021.

I'm able to hit 56 wpm but most of the time just around 40 and above.
I've started my touch typing when I bought a new keyboard last December 22.
I would continue practicing till I can constantly maintain 50.
@@seishinnfox Whats your speed rn?
I type in a speed around of 87 wpm. But in german. English is my next target. In english I type around 60 wpm now. But I discovered it for myself that accuracy is the main thing I have to concentrate on. But nice video, thanks for your upload!!11OneOneEleven

literally watched this video thinking there was something good here and you're literally doing what i already do except less and i already type 120 on average lmao
lmao n i c e - I made an updated video so check that out if it fits your vibe :D
Excellent post! You mentioned something I think will work well... speed then accuracy alternately. THANKS!! 🙏🏾
Glad it was helpful!
I am not the best at touch typing though.
you got this!
@@MattBison Now I am at 112 wpm. I know the process is very slow but it's definitely worth it to me.
@@Pokéfan1388 where you at now? Still making progress?
@@imanebenrbia8534 Yep still making process. My best is 122 wpm and with an average of at least 108 wpm. I'm still trying to get more than that but it takes time. I feel like my fingers get lighter the faster I get. They used to feel so heavy when I started typing and now they feel like as light as feathers to me.
Really a great video love u
Awesome story I m typing 3 hr for 7 days and 1 hr for a month and again 5 min for 15 days my typing speed is not going too abroad 35_45

i am looking for wired keyboard that feels like macbook
not too sure about wired, but im fairly certain that logitech as a great bluetooth option for an alternative (but it does come with quite the price tag)

That's still progress and i'll take it. Thank you, handsome man.
Progress is progress! Thank you so much for the compliment lmao XD
I'll get to work!
Fam I really try but my average speed is only 19 wpm really think should not choose programming or coding 😪
If you keep on going you'll get a respectable 30-40 wpm in no time!
Stay fresh cheesebag o/
Trust me, you don't need fast typing for programming :)
Coding takes a lot more problem solving and basic math so you should be fine (also if you really like programming than eventually you'll become fast learner of the languages)
Don't give up!
Try to stay dedicated to it, and you’ll type at a decent speed before you know it.
which keyboard is that?
its a cheap keyboard from amazon - if you have any keyboard recommendations feel free to let me know!
Thank you so much for the inspiration your the best! 👏👏👏
You are so welcome!
you are getting 90 wpm in the one-minute test but when you give a 10 minutes test then you can realize how drastically your speed is decreased...
it shouldnt be too drastic - as you practice, you get used to the speed that you type. right now i type at about 110 and when i do the 1 minute one i drop down to between 100 and 105
nice editing my dude, hope you hit triple numbers soon
Hey Jashe thank you so much for taking the time to watch my video and for leaving your comment. It's only a matter of time :)

I didn't type for years and I started at only 21 wpm (I know that's horrendous) after about 3 weeks I'm averaging 46 wpm. Don't give up no matter how bad you are at the beginning.
Couldn't have said it better!
Hey, which keyboard are you using?
Honestly, a random keyboard off Amazon 😅 though I did buy a keyboard for typing recently so stay tuned for that video :)
@@MattBison aight cools, looking forward to it! :)
@@MattBison thanks for your response! I'm practicing fir about 20 mins a day give or take, and have made good progress so far :)

bro i want to ask you something , I am at average 60wpm but i am IT student and I only averages at common words provided by keybr abd fastfangers sites
I want to be good at all keys including all symbols , symbols used while programming Should i learn these basic first and averages upto 80 90 wpm or start learning from basic with symbols keys ????🙏
I was a 10fast fingers user but when i tried monkey type it changed everything its so much better and smoother and clean

That's amazing!
great video man!!!

Only one word right "practice"
Everything is hypothetic
Keep it up to make us fool
I started learning to touch type like 4-5 weeks ago and my average currently is 65 WPM while personal best is 75. Before this, I just used 2-3 fingers.... that hunt and peck method which got me to 50 on average but obviously wasn't healthy at all. I am happy with whatever progress I have made. Next goal is to get 80+ WPM constantly.
That's awesome!
@@MattBison Thanks :)
Nice thank you for your advice and guidance.
Glad it was helpful!
How many words would be a good practice day? 500? 1000? 5000?
i wouldnt measure it by words. if youre slow, 500 words will take you forever. i would measure it by time. i spent around 20 minutes a day and slowly over time, the amount of tests/words i was typing a day increased - because i was getting faster. measure your progress by time and slowly youll see yourself get faster. hope that helps!
i started at about 5 to 10 WPM and one month later i am now able to hit the 35 to 40 WPM ............Not stopping tho.....currently my aim is atleast 60 to 70 with 90 % or above accuracy
That's amazing! You're well on your way to hitting your goal :D
Thank you for your support
Any time my friend!
My Average speed rn is around 27 wpm ,yeah i know that sucks...After seeing this video I've decided to commit myself to push for around 60 wps in a month. Let's see if it's going to work and btw you are among few who could motivate me into doing something 😄
it's definitely achievable!! i've been practicing daily and i have been seeing progress slowly but surely- you can do it!
@@ThanhNguyen-jf6nq 3 weeks up and I could do 60 on an average;topping at 74.4 . Thats 29 hr 36 min of practice...And I'm really proud😁
Can i go upto 60 wpm in 1 month??
that is completely possible - just gotta put in the practice!
How long u practice per day?
Ideally 10-20 minutes per day but I'm really competitive and if I get a score I don't like I usually stay on until I get a score I'm pleased with. Maximum: 35 mins
@@MattBison thank you for reply man🤩 useful
I just started to learn typing, your tip is useful, thank you🙏👌
Ramstein, Germany, Canadian Air Force High School, 1965.
