    Zurg was a fugitive and stole the XL-15 and escaped from Burnside and the zap patrol he assembled the Zyclops to forfill his own ambition to correct his mistakes he borrowed everything he manifest of the technology as he traveled fast forward to the future as he got the mech suit while inside the mothership which kept his Zyclops active he was known as B-ZURG by his robots with teleportors he planned to correct his mistakes and request for his young self but Buzz disallow it mentioning Izzy and everything would cease to exist due to the space time continum that result the consequences of the disaster of the paradox would destroy the entire universe Buzz attempt to return to his team but Zurg kept him captive and didn't care of the disaster that would cause Zurg got enraged and stomped on future Sox getting after Buzz again with the fuel crystal as the mothership exploded Zurg survived and gets the fuel crystal for himself and about to do a one turn kill to Buzz until Buzz gets his wing jetpack and said "not today Zurg". and use the lazer shooter to destroy the fuel crystal as it explode on Zurg in the credit scene Zurg floats in space until his red eyes glow again indicating he survived the explosion.

    One slight issue I see with Zurg’s plan that it did go all according to how he wanted it, is that he and Buzz would’ve only helped a younger Buzz get his team off the planet. Zurg and the Present Buzz would just be in another Buzz’s timeline. So Zurg never truly would’ve gotten what he wanted unless he was content with dying knowing another Buzz and Alisha would get to be space rangers again in his view of an ideal life for one… but since it’s clear that he stated he also wanted HIS life to matter again I’m just left with the conclusion that Zurg didn’t think out the logistics of his own plan, he really didn’t learn not to rush into brute forcing a problem to fix it.
    Sorry that was a long sentence but I did find it interesting given what was shown for the time travel of this movie.

    • @laplongejunior
      @laplongejunior Год назад +3

      Tbf he had no way to fix HIS life and probably knew it at some point. He wanted to make a universe where a Buzz's life "mattered" at the cost of all the lives he would erase in the process.

    His ego issues aside, what Zurg wanted was to prevent his crew from having been stranded. To be stranded somewhere is to be trapped away from home, and never being able to return home is a fate worse than death.

    I know a lot of people hate this movie, but those who tend to hate it forget one key plot point: Old Buzz mentions that the Zurg equipment is "borrowed"! He basically Roy Burns-ed Zurg's identity, which of course means that the real Zurg is still out there!!

    • @laplongejunior
      @laplongejunior Год назад +3

      Even worse : it is borrowed *from the future*.
      One of the reasons the New(?) Space Rangers are formed is because, at some point, some Zurg entity will exist with those weapons.

    Zurg's plan would obviously not work, he would still be haunted with the life he was impatiently trying to get rid of, only that he'd be the one dying instead of Alisha because of his age
    Zurg could've moved away from his motivation and exhaust his depression, hatred, anger, and guilt onto his younger self and his friends as a way to satisfy him as long as it lasts
    This would be a way for him to hate others who know a path to make their lives matter, while he has failed at it
    Zurg would no longer care if he wants his life to matter, nor even have a life to feel satisfied

      A common "issue" I read is that the movie is meant to be the one Andy saw in the Toy Story era and made him purchase toys, yet featured Alisha as a lesbian, something that (in their minds at least) would've never passed in the US society.
      It may make sense, but that means some of the negative word-of-mouth was simply cause due to a side-character being a black LGBT woman, and the argument could be simply a justification for an anti-minority boycott under the sake of "changing nostalgia".
      I personally really loved the movie, but only if you ignore the "actual movie from Toy Story" frame device, that was a stupid move IMHO.

      Tldr : Lightyear has three marketting issues.
      1) It tried to sell itself as a spin-off of a known franchise, despite being an alien when being in such franchise AND leading to meta-issues. So the marketting starts with a NEGATIVELY interested userbase which is not a good start.
      2) The movie is built in such a way that most ways of advertising it would drive people AWAY from the movie. So now word-of-mouth can't help it at best, and will probably make it worse.
      3) The presence of a "multiple minority" character drove a userbase HATING the movie, which is WAY easier to destroy online when the usual opinion about the movie is a "won't pay to watch this commercial scam" or "not interested at all"
      I never saw a real complaint about the movie besides "it's too bleak to be Andy's favorite movie"... but probably because nobody wanted to see it.
      Which is kinda what the marketting dept hammed again and again so I can totally understand seeing "the children from 25 years ago" calling them out on it. It is okay as a standalone Sci-FI movie, but can't compete against other Lightyear material. Especially when the same userbase associate "standalone Lightyear material" with the unfinished TV show.
      I saw one online review of the movie, the reviewer starts off with "I don't know much about this kind of movie but i'll try" and then explains how it is good for modern representation of characters... and the reviewer ended by talking about the evolving cultural landscape but not even talking about, you know... the movie? Should we watch it? Good for children? Nope, no info besides "Alisha is in there". Oh cool, a sidekick that will assist Buzz in his adventure I thought (ehm... not reaaally) I guess technically they said that they were asked to review it despite not being good at it, but... that's the kind of behavior that tells "we were paid to promote the movie but have absolutely nothing good to say so we'll stay silent".
      And that was probably the downfall of the movie, at least in my country : nobody cared that it was meant to be Andy's movie, and the ones who DID care thought it would be a BAD selling point and focused more on the practice than about the actual movie.
      *Especially* given that with ToyStory 2 and the Lightyear TV cartoon already provided good answers to that, and the recent ToyStory sequel ALREADY gave recent Lightyear material.
      Or if I had to sell it in one sentence? "the more emotional movie of a Sci-Fi Pixar franchise, but that nobody asked for. watch it anyway if you liked Lightyear in ToyStory"
      I literally wouldn't know this movie existed commercially if RUclips hadn't showed me a single trailer, only reason I watched it is because my local cinema did a one-time projection... years after it released without ever knowing it.
      I assumed I and my wife would be weird among parents and children... there was one single other person present.
      Nobody knew if the movie was meant for children or not, even the person who was responsible of announcing the projection.
      Oh and in retrospect : given the most interesting points of the story are HUGE spoilers, you can't even word-of-mouth it. "Lightyear the space ranger who doesn't go to space, wrecks his personal life by losing his only friend that nobody heard before, before fighting Zurg with a team of people with no experience" is not really hype-driving as such.
      My wife went to watch it because a friend said it was very good. My wife hates Sci-Fi. She hates space. Pixar literally made a movie about SPACE rangers for people who don't like movies in space...
      + Usually time-travel is a red flag in stories, so if you mention there's time-travel you need to explain why it is good. Which we can't do because spoilers.
