One slight issue I see with Zurg’s plan that it did go all according to how he wanted it, is that he and Buzz would’ve only helped a younger Buzz get his team off the planet. Zurg and the Present Buzz would just be in another Buzz’s timeline. So Zurg never truly would’ve gotten what he wanted unless he was content with dying knowing another Buzz and Alisha would get to be space rangers again in his view of an ideal life for one… but since it’s clear that he stated he also wanted HIS life to matter again I’m just left with the conclusion that Zurg didn’t think out the logistics of his own plan, he really didn’t learn not to rush into brute forcing a problem to fix it. Sorry that was a long sentence but I did find it interesting given what was shown for the time travel of this movie.
Tbf he had no way to fix HIS life and probably knew it at some point. He wanted to make a universe where a Buzz's life "mattered" at the cost of all the lives he would erase in the process.

Which is kinda what the marketting dept hammed again and again so I can totally understand seeing "the children from 25 years ago" calling them out on it. And that was probably the downfall of the movie, at least in my country : nobody cared that it was meant to be Andy's movie, and the ones who DID care thought it would be a BAD selling point and focused more on the practice than about the actual movie. *Especially* given that with ToyStory 2 and the Lightyear TV cartoon already provided good answers to that, and the recent ToyStory sequel ALREADY gave recent Lightyear material. Or if I had to sell it in one sentence? "the more emotional movie of a Sci-Fi Pixar franchise, but that nobody asked for. watch it anyway if you liked Lightyear in ToyStory" I literally wouldn't know this movie existed commercially if RUclips hadn't showed me a single trailer, only reason I watched it is because my local cinema did a one-time projection... years after it released without ever knowing it. I assumed I and my wife would be weird among parents and children... there was one single other person present. Nobody knew if the movie was meant for children or not, even the person who was responsible of announcing the projection. "Lightyear the space ranger who doesn't go to space, wrecks his personal life by losing his only friend that nobody heard before, before fighting Zurg with a team of people with no experience" is not really hype-driving as such.
