  • One of the things that has impressed me the most about the Canon R5 and 1000-500mm lens is how well the image stabilization works. Though I would prefer to be on a tripod when taking video, every clip in this video was shot handheld (some even from a boat) which blew me away that I could get such stable video at 500mm without a tripod!

    This is a great 4K wildlife video. Great camera movement, and great techniques. I wish more people would do 4K wildlife videos like this.

    Amazing results ! Please tell me how much storage does it take for one minute of video in 4K 60 FPS ? I’m filming an aviation videos and considering this set up. Also ! Did you have any over heating issues ?

    I have the same combo, but can’t get such good results as you show. Are you using the digital video stabilisation in addition to the lens and ibis? Do you stabilise in post? I think if I did all that the results might be better than I am getting now. Love the video!

      Hi Andrew, did you find any way to get better video with this setup? I'm getting the R7 with this lens and I'm keen to know what kind of handheld wildlife video I can expect to get

      Hi Will,
      Yes I have made some progress with my gear. See the above video I made in my amateur way. It’s using the canon r5 with 100-500 all handheld. What I have discovered is that the handheld video is fairly stable and if I then apply stabilization on post together it can be very good. I have also got a tripod which is my preference but can’t always carry it around. I imagine the R7 will be similar and possibly better.

    Did you shoot 4k 60 fps on all of these shots, it’s so smooth and lifelike

  • @Wildridefilms
    @Wildridefilms Год назад

    Did you stabilize these in post? The shot at 0:37 is literally static. If the stabilization is trying to fix the frame like that, then all the panning and moving shots would look super jerky. Similar to Fujifilm, who try to get a super stable static image over smooth panning or other movement.

    The only issue I have using mirrorless cameras is the lack of ND filters. How do you deal with that? THanks!

    • @HarryCollinsPhotography
      @HarryCollinsPhotography  Год назад +1

      Honestly it’s no different than when shooting on a Red or any other high end camera that doesn’t have built in NDs. I just use a mat box on my 100-500 and drop in NDs on my 600mm f4

      @@HarryCollinsPhotography yeah i suppose a matt box on the 100-500 would be the fix. I'm going to order the lens. Love your work and thanks for the fast reply!

    Interesting. Looks nearly as stable as a GH5 and 100-400. I think thats settled it for me and I need to swap to r5 and 100-500mm. The GH5 is very dated now especially AF

      Having shot with both in my non biased, personal honest opinion for whatever that is worth, the canon setup is superior in every single way.
