You know, I’m glad you are bringing up toilet paper emergencies not just being for zombie apocalypse. I would also like to add that it is really nice to have these things at home for example if you are alone and your whole family gets sick and can’t go to the store.

I love that you don't can, preserve everything. There are so many people starting out in the store bought stage and many stay there. Love the collaboration and how it shows the variety of methods of aquiring a solid foundation for food storage.

Thanks for sharing your pantry! You reminded me of things, I should have. You are so right, about why to have food storage- loss of job, illness, power outages and storms. My coworker’s husband just had a injury and he’s going to be out of work for eight months, so they are down to one income. A well stocked pantry would help them immensely!
Pads and tampons make wonderful 1st aid products as well for heavy bleeding from cuts. I had to use them before ;) we also have a cigar to make into a poultice to pull out wasp stingers. Hubby taught me that.
OHHHH a cigar!! Great Idea. We saved the pads from our cloth diapers to use for pads or for wounds as well. They are in the bug-out-bags.
@@absentacresmn yes, I have left over diapers from my kid that is a teen today. The diaper could be used for large farm animals for wound care. ☺️

We just built a pantry room in our garage. We put in a mini split so we can control the temperature. I could use it as a cold room. We keep the freezers in there too. I’m here at the suggestion of Three Rivers Homestead.
Hi, came over from Jessica at Three Rivers. It's just me most of the time so my pantry is mostly store bought and fresh frozen with home canned jams. My goal this winter is to can meats. Your daughter is adorable.

Nice storage area for your grocery. Did you know that plastics are porous. It's not recommended to store plastics containing food on a concrete floor. Place them off the floor or at least place a vapor barrier on the floor under buckets.
Pasta left in the cardboard boxes can contain pantry pests and spread to all the boxes. They can absorb odor, moisture and be invaded by mice/voles. I have stored mine in large tins and glass jars for a decade with no color, or flavor changes. Hope this info helps.

Regarding canned ground beef: rinsing it removes the smell and it’s awesome for heavily spiced things like taco meat. I love having instant tacos/nachos/enchiladas, and we use it almost exclusively for that.

Please don’t take for granted that we know your families history. I just watched your channel for the first time because I am planning on revamping my pantry. Several times you mentioned that 2 of your children have medical conditions but most of us know. Many of us have no idea.

Thankyou for more ideas..I like the potatoe storage idea..we used alot of "used by" passed dates during covid time..if it was expired I threw out..actually it composted..for the duck what size was it??I have alphgal and wanted to can up some goose and duck..I love my canned up chicken..you can flavor it anyway you want..happy new year &be blessed🙏🙏✨️✨️

Forgive me im fairly new to this kind of stuff. But how do you “cure” the potatoes?
Plastic tote for the to replace the card box
When I can and don’t have a full load I put jars of water but don’t seal them. That way I don’t use up my jars with just water. Do you know if that is ok? I’m new to canning and still struggling with my confidence and am scared I will make a mistake and cause my family to be sick.
I always seal mine. You can use it as sterile water. I don't see why NOT sealing them would make a huge difference. The purpose is to fill space for proper pressure regulation. IMO, it is no different than if your jar didn't seal after processing. So I say, keep doing what you're doing. 😊
I water-bath my ground beef and tastes better.
Really... how long? Cooked or raw? I've stayed with cooked. Mainly because it became a loaf and I didn't think it was correct LOL. Beth does raw. I wonder if that may help the taste a bit as well... experiment time!
@@absentacresmn I do both, but if I want ground beef, semi cook then hot pack. I do raw pack for all my meats. ground beef I WB cook because it doesn't taste like dog food. Way better IMO. Cook for 3 hours.
Can you store store-bought potatoes like that?
I've never tried... but I don't see why not.

What happens if it's a fire or water damage all that money is going to waste
I'm sorry you see it that way. There's a lot more than just food that would 'go to waste' in a fire. Pretty sure this will be the least of my worries.
As for water, most of these things are in water proof containers (glass jars, buckets, even some of the original packaging). It is a risk I'm willing to take.
Do you ever lose product in cardboard boxes to rodents?
On occasion. If we notice any rodent activity we put traps out ASAP.
