  • G'Day
    thank you for watching.
I purchased this EGO telescopic hedge trimmer for the purpose of doing tall and wide hedges, unfortunately after buying it with out the ability to return the product, i have found this tool to be very heavy and awkward to use, there is many flaws from the weight, how hard it is to maneuver, the grip slips, the blade adjuster you need two hands making it annoying while trying to anything that is not straight, eg large round topiary, hard to use off a ladder when in difficult terrains.
I have given many other gardeners and friends to oppertunity to use and everyone would prefer the multi tool with hedge trimmer attachment.
I just don't want anyone to purchase thinking it will make light work of larger hedges.
thank you and have a beautiful day
using the multi tool to do large topiary's

Got the EGO commercial pole hedge trimmer with carbon fibre shaft and rail, it weights only 4.7kg(without battery) but because it is so long and the balance is bizarre, it feels much heavier than it should be.

      Hi,
I was lost as to how it is heavier then the multi tool with hedge trimmer.
I told the ego rep it was way too heavy and I would not buy or recommend.
The rep said that the gears in the hedge trimmer head was built stronger, I told him that it has made it heavier and a waste. I have had the ego multi tool for four years before I stripped the gearing in the head. And I flogged it.

What is your opinion about the new EGO power head model 1420 with Carbon Fibre tube? Just a question , if you don't mind. In Australia are you still allowed to use gas powered OPE? Or it is your choice your to use non - emissions equipment. Thanks again, your videos are very informative and well done. 🇨🇦

Hi, sorry for the late reply, the new carbon fibre model 1420 has not come to our stores yet.
It was our choice to go full battery in 2018, I haven’t looked back, sure there is little issues, but every time I use gas I definitely wouldn’t go back to gas, the noise, never start, oil issues, weight and so much more,
We have solar which is also helping with the emissions, plus in Australia many people have solar so we take advantage to charge up on jobs with solar,

      Hi Stephen,
How long are you able to use the telescopic, half an hour and I’m done.
How do you find it on 4m/ 15’ hedges
The weight won’t let me do a full arc top to bottom,
I am curious as you are the 3rd person who has liked the telescopic
      Many thanks

How does the multi tool chainsaw head compared to the commercial chainsaw head !!
I really need a good pole chainsaw
But would like to add the hedge ?

    • @1greenthumbgardeningtwba
      @1greenthumbgardeningtwba  3 месяца назад +1

      Hey,
Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to use the EGO commercial telescopic chainsaw. I believe it would be better than the multi tool as it has more weight in the head with the motor in the head.
I love the chainsaw attachment on the multi tool though at one extension pole it bounces on the branches and doesn't give the best cut. It can shudder from lack of weight.
I have used the Stihl telescopic chainsaw and it works fantastic.
My friend from Darling down tree service uses the Stihl battery telescopic chainsaw and loves it.
I have the Stihl MSA 161 T arborist battery chainsaw and absolutely love it.
At the time I purchased ego didn't have the arborist, since ego has bought out the small arborist chainsaw you need to have the batter with a cord which I don't like. Plus is has a regular chain compared to the micro on Stihl. The micro chains are more expensive but a superior cut.
Thank you for watching and I hope this answers some questions.
      Happy to help more
      Scotty

@@1greenthumbgardeningtwba thank you Scotty for a detailed answer. I appreciate that.
I just bought the commercial telescopic 10 inch titanium chainsaw. It was $800 US with 5.0 amp battery and charger
and I also bought the original multi tool non-titanium. 10 inch chainsaw with 20 inch hedge trimmer also non-titanium.. with I believe 2.5 amp battery and charger. That was $399 US.
I believe that's what you're using in your videos with a 5.0 battery?
I am waiting for them to arrive. I'll let you know how it turns out. .
The videos I've seen with the ego commercial telescopic chainsaw. Looks like it works pretty well on even 8to 10 inch limbs with a little bit of choking, but can get that job done and on 4 to 6 inch limbs no problem.
      We will see...
Your videos are very clear and got me going down this whole rabbit hole to order both because I originally ordered the commercial telescopic chainsaw ...
But then saw your video and realized how for hedge clipping, it's not as functional as the multi tool .. plus I find it hard to find on the site, the commercial hedge clipper attachment for commercial telescopic head pole?
Anyway, it looks like I've got some comparison to do in the next coming weeks when they arrive ..
Thanks again for your reply and excellent videos. Keep up the great work. Look forward to watching more. G'day to ya!

hey Traxxas, im not wanting to sound rude, i honestly would love to know how do you go using it for a day hedging, how do you find your arms and back after a 40m long by 4m high hedge, it takes me 35 minutes straight with the multi tool and my arms are feeling it
i actually bought this telescopic for this property and i make it 6 metres in and im fucked. i have tried the telescopic on many properties and there is now way it is better then the multitool, (my honest opinion)
i can reach the same height as the telescopic no poles, i very rarely use the poles unless i have that 5m tall hedge, most hedges are under 4m,

    • @traxxas5
      @traxxas5 Год назад +1

@@1greenthumbgardeningtwbaMost of the time it is not used all day. Cutting the sides with a hand held machine, cutting what is reachable on the top with hand held. The rest out of reach with the telescopic. The new lighter stihl hedge trimmer attachment is 2.3kg, bet my older one was a fair bit heavier. The ego ptx5100 is 2.6kg. So no big deal really. I cut everything from above. So use a tripod or platform ladder to be just a bit higher than the hedge. I can then straighten my arms and have the machine fully braced. This allows me to do a neat finish aswell as I can see what I'm doing. Very rarely do I hold it above my head, the odd occasion to whisk a few bits off. I didn't think I would like the handle before buying. But it's great, it allows you to get into many positions. You can swivel the trimmer head also, which you didn't do in the video. That keeps the battery weight flat. I find I can tuck the bottom of the hedge trimmer into my waist and fully lock it in position. With the battery sticking out the back, I can find I can brace that against my arm also. I find I always changing the length and plugging In pole is such a pain when up a ladder, and just a pain full stop. Having the two triggers means you can take the machine back past you a long way co pared to having trigger on shift, if you have put the ladder a bit close to where you need to cut.
Also have two machines in one is a big cost saving comparing with stihl. I think the poke attachment is a great.bit of kit. It's a bit jumpy as another comment said, but I think that's the brand new chain. It 10" not 12" which is a shame. However that's achieved 22ms which is quick Cutting. It's solid compared to stihl. A whole pole pruner for £175! A rotating head would have been good for when lowering hedge and wanting to cut flat.
The hedge trimmer is solid compared to stihl. Fully sealed gearbox. I'm happy with the extra weight because I've had stihls lighter version and it's rubbish, in terms of it dosent last.
      Stihl hla 86 4.8kg, ap200 1.2kg= 6kg
      Ego ppx1000 3kg, ptx5100 2.6kg, 2.5ah 1.2kg= 8.3kg
2.3kg extra gets you a longer reach, metal housing. Motors with big fans for cooling and alot quieter than stihl. Lots of handle placements, rotating ead to keep battery flat, a pole pruner attachment saving alot of money.
A stihl petrol hedge trimmer is 6.2kg without fuel and that's only 2.4m long.
The cons for me are the rubber grip twisting. The height from the blades to the bottom of the bracket. Big gap and the blades dip forward as a result. This means the bottom drags in the hedge. I'm learning to work around that and have achieved some very neat results non the less.
A new motor from stihl is £180-£200. A new ptx5100 is £200. The whole trimmer for £200, not just a motor. So easy to change, more cost effective. That was the big driver to us switching to Ego. Also machines available straight away. 3 year warranty, 2 year battery. Battery run time on 2.5ah very good aswell.
I'm sure the multitool has its place but we spent years with a petrol multitool....Pass me the short extension, faff faff, here's it back, pass me th long extension, faff faff pass me the short and the long....FAFF!!! All trying to plug them in and out up a ladder. With a telescopic twist..pull out or put in, twist..carry on. Easy and upto 4m.
So yes it's on the heavey side but it's fine, it's workable.

    that's a shame really
I have the standard one and i thought that was overly heavy considering you can buy a shindaiwa petrol unit which weighs substantially less and arguably for less money once you consider batteries and functionally the same.
The pole saw attachment in my experience is crap vibrates way too much and head not adjustable and only uses 1 nut to hold bar on and unsurprisingly my adjustment screw is stuffed needed to warranty it

hey, i know what you mean with the chainsaw attachment on the multi tool, i do find it bounces, though the telescopic has a large guage chian, the micro chains have a better cut like the stihl
for all my use with the multi tool i use the backpack and takes all the weight off the tool and makes it so light to use, yes the batteries are expensive and only last 1 yr, but for the price of quiet money cant buy. i still ocationally use other gardeners petrol equipment and i would never go back to petrol, too much hassel, too loud.

    hey mate,
I'm also based in australia, have you had a chance to use the new model htx5300-pa? I'm wondering how it compares to the multi tool, I also wish we would get the new multi tool already!

      @1greenthumbgardeningtwba  8 месяцев назад

      Hi,
I personally haven’t used the Htx5300, and I wouldn’t buy it as limits the work I can do.
I can use the multi tool from basket ball size topiary to 4.5m hedges and 2.5m wide.
I have modified a hedge trimmer attachment years ago to have a 10cm shaft cut down from 60cm.
It certainly reduces weight but it never got used I always went back to the original,
My normal hedge trimmer attachment that I use 90% of the time has the shaft from the pole chainsaw ( which I swapped) this give me an extra 12cm of length which surprisingly is a huge advantage.
      Hopefully this helps

i am wanting to buy the chainsaw attachment as the weight would be handy as the multi tool is too light and wants to bounce on the branches, i have used the stihl extension chainsaw and it has the motor in the head and the weight makes a better cut, hoping the new version comes out a micro chain that is compatable?? i also like to have it to do videos of how shit it is, since ego pissed me off, and i dont want anyone to buy it without knowing it is heavy.

yes. it is hopefully lighter but you can also use it without the telescopic section as a long(ish) hedger so i dont need to buy a hand held hedger either.
i use the older stihl polesaw/hedge (battery) and they are ok.
they are light but not particularly powerful.
