All I know is I traded in my Xbox one s for the x and the difference is unreal. I got a Samsung q6 tv last year then got the Xbox one x and played resident evil 2 again. The difference was unbelievable. Resident evil 2 looks spectacular on a 4K tv with the Xbox one x. The difference probably more noticeable since the xbox one s is so damn weak even compared to the ls4 slim. I think you can get Xbox one x for 299 now. That’s an amazing deal for what you get.
It’s 2024, almost all good sony exclusives are playable on ps4, Starfield was trash (I bought a series x specifically for that) and here I am, $1000 in and still only slightly better than you.
I have just ordered one , since the XSX is turning out to be a bit of a mess at the moment with disc drives failing and screws falling out of some. The XSS can not even do 1080p, the XB1X is the console to still go for !

Yep. Even some of the unboxing vids by ppl MS gave X's to (but didn't really deserve them) were thinly veiled hit pieces. Sony hit a home run with the ps4, but the X hits the ball out of the park completely. Now we just need to wait for the patches to come out (and they're coming at a pretty fast clip with 7 new ones downloading as I speak).
Mikey C yes you are completely right Xbox hit a jackpot and they are gonna do the same with their next Xbox contending the ps5 and I'm really happy on this one x as they made lot of mistakes on the OG one I'm a ps4 player btw. And on the side note the only thing now is that ms should make more contracts with first part studios like some of the best just like we have naughtydog and others. Then people like me will buy more of their stuff. Shahroz Rashid when did Xbox ever dominate PlayStation? The og Xbox? Came out after ps2 and discontinued way before it as well. 360? Year earlier several hundred dollars cheaper still lost world wide sales. This gen we already know. Now don't get me wrong Xbox one x is an amazing box. And of course is better than the pro but it doesn't change the way we play games. In fact multiple platforms will always be able to play any "xbox" game whether on pc or ps4 or he'll even the switch.

I'm impressed with the technology in One X. It really is a powerful machine. The Games Library on the other hand needs an improvement. Edit : Those stating that the games library is not in need of improvement... don't be a fanboy for once. We need to face the truth that when it comes to the library of games, Xbox is lacking as opposed to competitors. They need exclusives so that there's competition. This part is very important. Competition is GOOD for all consumers. Remember that.
Yep. I am currently a PC gamer but were I in the market for a new console (presently I only have a Switch) I wouldn't hesitate to buy a PS4... it's all about those exclusives and on this front Sony have Microsoft's number (not a fanboy I promise)
As someone who loves Xbox, I agree! There are a few games I'm looking forward to, one being sea of thieves as it looks interesting.. but nothing jumps out and screams amazing!
I have a PC that is running 2 1080 TI's and an i7 7700K. There is nothing that the Xbox One X can do that my PC can't do better, considering 99% of Xbox games are available to PC gamers. If I didn't have a gaming rig the XBox would appeal to me but as it is I cannot justify buying one. The only one who sounds like a blind fanboy here is you.

Honestly, this review was easily the best I’ve seen. Littered with actual information like performance and power consumption as well as a personal spin on an overall opinion. The Polygon/IGN etc reviews are comparatively terrible, just people rambling about if things look prettier and why it sucks because it doesn’t do their washing up.
I brought an Xbox One X back in 2017 with a separate 4TB hardrive. It’s a very great console and games looks really good on a 4K TV. On top of that, I brought an Xbox Elite V2 controller last year (2019). 😁

I have a Pro and a One X. The Pro with boost mode on (and mine stands up and always blown out with air) sounds like a jet. I had to confirm my One X fan was actually on...that's how quiet it is.

AWESOME! ... It is incredible the way the Xbox One X makes such HUGE improvements in both Xbox One games AND Xbox 360 games! ... When I saw that completely new textures were used to showcase the games and the higher resolution in 4K and 1080p resolutions, I was stunned!!! Xbox One X is AWESOME!
Great review. Unfortunately mainstream media dismisses this as being too expensive yet when you consider the hardware - not just the powerful GPU,12 GB GDDR5 memory and bespoke cooling solution but also the 4K HDR Blu-Ray player, alongside other things like the controller, warranty, integrated PSU, CPU etc. and the extremely small form factor and you've got a machine that showcases why consoles exist: insane value for money that even the best PC builders couldn't come close to for price to performance, along with the convenience and ease of use. Oh and did I mention backwards compatibility? I mean, in the UK at least the standard Xbox One on launch (with Kinect) was £450. This thing is selling for £1 less WITH A GAME in some cases. Let that sink in for a minute. Pricing isn't the problem, people's expectations are.

I bought a lot of tech after watching DF reviews: a Pentium G4560, a GTX 1050ti, a GTX 1060 3GB, a HDR10 4K TV, an Xbox One X, a PS4 Slim, not to mention all the must have games to play on these consoles.
Sony did a terrible job this gen with removing heat. Probably because of the 360 red ring disaster Microsoft really went all out with their heat sinks.

PS4 has exclusives and Japanese games, Switch has Nintendo games and is kind of portable, PC does everything the Xbox does better plus you need one anyway.

Glad to hear the console lives up to Microsofts promises, and more. Really a step in the right direction for the brand hardware, now we just need the software to back it up. And I trust Microsoft will deliver.
It's unfortunate they weren't able to upgrade the CPU very much. Poor CPU was the Sole factor in me deciding to just save up 300 more bucks and buy a PC.
A good cpu is vital in any machine. Look at the pro. It has a great gpu. But it's wasted as it's being bottlenecked by the stupid cpu in it. Which is the same as the base ps4 only overclocked a little. I had a gtx 970 with a athlon 8600k cpu in it (yeah lol) and it was terrible. As soon as I moved to an intel motherboard and got an i7-6700k? My frames more than doubled and I could max out games at Ultra settings no problem.
For $499, sure, great value. Powerful console for sure. Great design. The one Achilles Heal of this and the PS4 Pro? Games that run at 30fps max. All of my multiplats will still be on PC because of this. 30fps is just garbage. The least MS and Sony could do is make a 60fps mode selectable for EVERY single game on the system. Use adaptive resolutions, do whatever you have to do to keep a solid, locked, never dipping 60fps on this mode. This, imo, is MUCH more important than resolution in every single case. The option to choose, at the least should be there for us to decide for ourselves. Then make a "high fidelity" graphics mode that can run high resolutions at 30fps for people that can stomach that terribleness... I would rather play at 720p upscaled at 60fps than 4k at 30fps, not even kidding one bit. (luckily my 6700k/1080TI PC can handle 95% of games on the market at 4k/60fps, so I get the best of both worlds, but... still... :-)
Not many people realize this. GTAV alone sold 70 million copies, give me one Xbox/PlayStation exclusive game that sold that much ? The new Zelda game which everybody is talking about, sold just over 5 million, imagine if it was available on Xbox/PS4/PC, it would sell 2-3 times more. Exclusivity sucks. Games is where money is being made, not hardware.
AntonioR Software I own a 360 and a Ps3 ..not a single exclusive between them. When I do finely get a 8th gen, exclusives are not the driving force my TV is. My consoles don't do my TV justice.
But, exclusives sell hardware. Few who went out and bought the base PS4 because it was the most powerful when it came out are going to go and buy Xbox One X; they already have a machine that plays those games. FPS, 4K...to most people, none of that matters more than exclusives. Disagree? Switch and Zelda would like to have a word with you.

I remember the good old days when multiplats would look entirely different dependant on hardware, with mashed textures, missing lighting and technical effects, or almost unrecognisable geometry. These days we need to zoom in on indiscriminate backgrounds details and jump back and forth between shots to understand where all the additional computing power goes. Just goes to show being the most powerful now means very little, at last resting all the importance on the games...... I'd still take PC and a switch over PS4 + XBOX.
Yeah, even when I watch the videos in high resolution and actually understand the technical stuff he is talking about, most of the time I barely see any difference. Go back to PS2/Xbox days and games like Splinter Cell would be completely different.

It's hard to get that excited about a console for the 'hardcore' that will only hold around seven to ten major games before the hard drive is full. Delete/install juggling hell if you're going disc based and even worse if you want to go mainly digital with those 80-100 plus gb file sizes.

CaptainT $500 can be a lot or a little depending on what product you’re talking about. In terms of the Xbox one x, I’d say $500 is reasonable considering what a PC with equivalent specs would cost. On the other hand, you could argue that charging $500 for a console that can actually properly run all its games is unethical when it’s what we should have had in the first place

Boris 15 Buying/building a PC does not mean you have to toss your current console out the window. You still own them and the games you have already bought. You can be a console owner and a PC owner. In fact it’s the best way to enjoy the most out of gaming, since nothing is stopping you from playing what you want.
Boris 15 I got a PC with a Gtx 1080, and I’m getting the xbox one x. Pc is great platform. But the rampant cheaters i run into ruins the gaming experience.
Not saying you should jump over to PC but in the case of the consoles you are basically relying on (in this case) Microsoft to provide backward compatibility with every new generation of consoles. While on PC that will never be the case since it's not owned by one single company. Microsoft can take that away anytime they want. (Look at the PS3... first versions had backward compatibility but with the later versions they left it out). If MS was in the lead I don't think they would have bothered with backward compatibility. I jumped over at the start of the new generation to PC, mostly because I didn't want to pay monthly for online play and because the games are generally cheaper. So I was willing to pay more for a system that I can use for all things multimedia related. In the long run (at least in my experience) the difference in cost between a console and PC is not that big. Difference though is that if you want a high end PC you will have to pay a big amount of money at one time while the cost for a console is more evenly spread across its lifespan (things like the monthly subscription, higher launch prices of games, etc.). I've bought some games from the consoles that I owned on PC again. They were dirt cheap to buy (like 3,50 - 5 bucks) during a GOG or Steam sale. So it's not that expensive. Certainly not if you compare it to what some DLCs cost these days. If you are happy with your console then I'm glad for you. Everyone has the right to pick a platform they like and I'm glad that MS gives backward compatibility. But seeing as to what happened with the PS3, I just want to warn people that it still comes down to the console manufacturer to provide it to their customer rather than something which is inherently available on the platform no matter what year or generation we are in. Sorry I like to ramble from time to time :D

HellFire every community has fanboys but pc seems to be the worst, they seem to have to explain and shout out to everyone that there machine has better this and better that. Im new to PC gaming- just built my first rig in July. Its a beast and I'm proud I put in the time and effort to build it (without shitting my pants in the process, lol), but I agree with you. There's d-bag fanboys from all spectrums but the PC community, at least from my experience so far, seem to be the most negative and narrow minded. Its like many of them have OCD or something, lol. Of course, theres many cool PC gamers out there as well, but I definitely can see where the negative stereotype of PC gamers comes from. Again, obviously not all are like that, and there are many console gamers that are complete asses, but overall they seem to make the most noise. Do you know that PS4 Pro is already out for a year, yes? :) One year. That's how much time needed for MS to give an answer which is stronger. But Xbox will never be an option for me for example, because I prefer to play the exclusive titles I can't play on my PC. Xbox One X is like being rich in an island, where you can't buy anything.

Cpu is the bottleneck, cpu is what hinders the console, just like the pro. U can have a beast gpu but pair it with a weak cpu and then you can’t hit that desired framerate consistently.
So months ago, when I heard the specs and how they developed the hardware, I was quite impressed, but still not quite sold. My OG Xbox died less than two years after I bought it thanks to a bad hard drive and I found myself wanting to play Sony exclusives more so I eventually replaced it with a PS2. I never owned a 360, even though I liked Forza quite a bit and thought MS' hardware was superior that round. I was not a fan of the Xbox One at all, pretty much everything about it from the name to the hardware itself turned me off. It was clearly a set-top box more so than a gaming console and its games seemed to suffer because of it. And I watched as Microsoft took treasured things like Rare and completely misused them (I won't get into my thoughts on Kinect in this comment). But like I said, the Xbox One X hardware is impressive. There's still some uncertainty for me because it's such a large leap from the Xbox One hardware that I have trouble predicting how well both will be supported. There is potential here for a great software library. Xbox 360 compatibility looks pretty sweet, and I actually had no idea that they would support OG Xbox backwards compatibility. That right there may be a tipping point for me, because despite jumping ship to Sony, there are still a number of games for that console I still love and would love to play. I'm not totally sure why, but I do find myself seriously considering the One X. I think I'll have to wait a bit to see how the software support starts to play out, but this could be a great console to own. Especially because I kind of collect consoles and this would certainly be an interesting one to have in the future.

I have a PC that is running 2 1080 TI's and an i7 7700K. There is nothing that the Xbox One X can do that my PC can't do better, considering 99% of Xbox games are available to PC gamers. If I didn't have a gaming rig the XBox would appeal to me but as it is I cannot justify buying one. The only one who sounds like a blind fanboy here is you.

Honestly, this review was easily the best I’ve seen. Littered with actual information like performance and power consumption as well as a personal spin on an overall opinion. The Polygon/IGN etc reviews are comparatively terrible, just people rambling about if things look prettier and why it sucks because it doesn’t do their washing up.
I brought an Xbox One X back in 2017 with a separate 4TB hardrive. It’s a very great console and games looks really good on a 4K TV. On top of that, I brought an Xbox Elite V2 controller last year (2019). 😁

I have a Pro and a One X. The Pro with boost mode on (and mine stands up and always blown out with air) sounds like a jet. I had to confirm my One X fan was actually on...that's how quiet it is.

Unfortunately mainstream media dismisses this as being too expensive yet when you consider the hardware - not just the powerful GPU,12 GB GDDR5 memory and bespoke cooling solution but also the 4K HDR Blu-Ray player, alongside other things like the controller, warranty, integrated PSU, CPU etc. and the extremely small form factor and you've got a machine that showcases why consoles exist: insane value for money that even the best PC builders couldn't come close to for price to performance, along with the convenience and ease of use. Oh and did I mention backwards compatibility?
I mean, in the UK at least the standard Xbox One on launch (with Kinect) was £450. This thing is selling for £1 less WITH A GAME in some cases. Let that sink in for a minute. Pricing isn't the problem, people's expectations are.

It's unfortunate they weren't able to upgrade the CPU very much. Poor CPU was the Sole factor in me deciding to just save up 300 more bucks and buy a PC.

A good cpu is vital in any machine.
Look at the pro. It has a great gpu. But it's wasted as it's being bottlenecked by the stupid cpu in it. Which is the same as the base ps4 only overclocked a little.
I had a gtx 970 with a athlon 8600k cpu in it (yeah lol) and it was terrible. As soon as I moved to an intel motherboard and got an i7-6700k? My frames more than doubled and I could max out games at Ultra settings no problem.

For $499, sure, great value. Powerful console for sure. Great design. The one Achilles Heal of this and the PS4 Pro? Games that run at 30fps max. All of my multiplats will still be on PC because of this. 30fps is just garbage. The least MS and Sony could do is make a 60fps mode selectable for EVERY single game on the system. Use adaptive resolutions, do whatever you have to do to keep a solid, locked, never dipping 60fps on this mode. This, imo, is MUCH more important than resolution in every single case. The option to choose, at the least should be there for us to decide for ourselves. Then make a "high fidelity" graphics mode that can run high resolutions at 30fps for people that can stomach that terribleness...
I would rather play at 720p upscaled at 60fps than 4k at 30fps, not even kidding one bit. (luckily my 6700k/1080TI PC can handle 95% of games on the market at 4k/60fps, so I get the best of both worlds, but... still... :-)

Not many people realize this. GTAV alone sold 70 million copies, give me one Xbox/PlayStation exclusive game that sold that much ? I remember the good old days when multiplats would look entirely different dependant on hardware, with mashed textures, missing lighting and technical effects, or almost unrecognisable geometry. These days we need to zoom in on indiscriminate backgrounds details and jump back and forth between shots to understand where all the additional computing power goes. Just goes to show being the most powerful now means very little, at last resting all the importance on the games...... I'd still take PC and a switch over PS4 + XBOX.
Yeah, even when I watch the videos in high resolution and actually understand the technical stuff he is talking about, most of the time I barely see any difference. Go back to PS2/Xbox days and games like Splinter Cell would be completely different.

Boris 15 I got a PC with a Gtx 1080, and I’m getting the xbox one x. Pc is great platform. But the rampant cheaters i run into ruins the gaming experience.
Not saying you should jump over to PC but in the case of the consoles you are basically relying on (in this case) Microsoft to provide backward compatibility with every new generation of consoles. While on PC that will never be the case since it's not owned by one single company. Microsoft can take that away anytime they want. (Look at the PS3... first versions had backward compatibility but with the later versions they left it out). If MS was in the lead I don't think they would have bothered with backward compatibility.
I jumped over at the start of the new generation to PC, mostly because I didn't want to pay monthly for online play and because the games are generally cheaper. So I was willing to pay more for a system that I can use for all things multimedia related. In the long run (at least in my experience) the difference in cost between a console and PC is not that big. Difference though is that if you want a high end PC you will have to pay a big amount of money at one time while the cost for a console is more evenly spread across its lifespan (things like the monthly subscription, higher launch prices of games, etc.).
I've bought some games from the consoles that I owned on PC again. They were dirt cheap to buy (like 3,50 - 5 bucks) during a GOG or Steam sale. So it's not that expensive. Certainly not if you compare it to what some DLCs cost these days.
If you are happy with your console then I'm glad for you. Everyone has the right to pick a platform they like and I'm glad that MS gives backward compatibility. But seeing as to what happened with the PS3, I just want to warn people that it still comes down to the console manufacturer to provide it to their customer rather than something which is inherently available on the platform no matter what year or generation we are in.

Do you know that PS4 Pro is already out for a year, yes? :) One year. That's how much time needed for MS to give an answer which is stronger. But Xbox will never be an option for me for example, because I prefer to play the exclusive titles I can't play on my PC. Xbox One X is like being rich in an island, where you can't buy anything.

Cpu is the bottleneck, cpu is what hinders the console, just like the pro. U can have a beast gpu but pair it with a weak cpu and then you can’t hit that desired framerate consistently.

So months ago, when I heard the specs and how they developed the hardware, I was quite impressed, but still not quite sold. My OG Xbox died less than two years after I bought it thanks to a bad hard drive and I found myself wanting to play Sony exclusives more so I eventually replaced it with a PS2. I never owned a 360, even though I liked Forza quite a bit and thought MS' hardware was superior that round. I was not a fan of the Xbox One at all, pretty much everything about it from the name to the hardware itself turned me off. It was clearly a set-top box more so than a gaming console and its games seemed to suffer because of it. And I watched as Microsoft took treasured things like Rare and completely misused them (I won't get into my thoughts on Kinect in this comment).
But like I said, the Xbox One X hardware is impressive. There's still some uncertainty for me because it's such a large leap from the Xbox One hardware that I have trouble predicting how well both will be supported. There is potential here for a great software library. Xbox 360 compatibility looks pretty sweet, and I actually had no idea that they would support OG Xbox backwards compatibility. That right there may be a tipping point for me, because despite jumping ship to Sony, there are still a number of games for that console I still love and would love to play. I'm not totally sure why, but I do find myself seriously considering the One X. I think I'll have to wait a bit to see how the software support starts to play out, but this could be a great console to own. Especially because I kind of collect consoles and this would certainly be an interesting one to have in the future.

The embarrassments of IGN and The Verge dropping the ball with inaccuracies and biases clouding their reviews has once again shown that the industry still has allot of growing up to do. Love the breakdown with frame rates,heat output, and load times. Something the other sites negligently failed to cover,while all too quick to sound like a Sony cheerleading section all throughout their reviews. Professional review DP, and most importantly,INFORMED!
