Fyi. If you are in a pinch and don't have loctite, clear fingernail polish works just as well. I have used it on mount screws for anchoring my rifle scopes. I have never had one loosen from the recoil.

I had problems with one of my drone's propellers breaking. Luckily, the propeller broke when I was about 4 meters high on takeoff. They were original propellers, with 14 hours of use. I work with failure analysis. I analyzed the fracture of the propeller and found a fatigue crack, nucleated in the tube through which the screw passes. From then on, I change the propellers after 10 hours of use.

Even tho I believe that when you purchase props from DJI the screws have a little bit of lok-tite on them, I use a small lid put a few drops of lok-tite in the lid and then dip the tips of the screws into it before screwing them into the motors

A tip: put a permanent marker dot on each propeller screw opposite each other. Then if the screws do loosen you can instantly see that the marker dots are out of alignment and a screw has come loose…

  • @noonespecific9463
    @noonespecific9463 2 года назад +1

Cross threading the screws may be what happened to your friend, when you put the new screws in the new props make sure the screw goes in straight, the screws seem to be made softer that the mounting holes on the motors. I think it’s that way on purpose so a cross threaded screw doesn’t damage the mounting holes on the motor. The mounting hole will damage/change the threads on the screw, when this happens the screw appears to be at a slight angle , rather than straight up and down, when like this they will loosen in flight. It is very easy to get one of those little screws cross threaded and not notice. You normally get a payload sensed warning if there is a crossed up screw in a rear prop. I don’t know about the front though, I’ve only had this happen to a rear prop.

Great update Mike. After your review I bought some myself and found the noise lower which was great. Didn't notice any performance difference and like you I always check the screws before I set off to fly. The only downside (apart from the shipping costs) is they tend to be made from softer plastic so If you're a buffon like me and fly into branches a couple of times they will mark. Don't really know if there's a performance difference with the marked ones but the pitch is altered so I suspect some vibration - it's not bad though. I like them and will be purchasing more when the postage costs come down (love the red ones).

Being a long time fixed wing aircraft flyer I could have told you that changing the pitch of the props definitely changes the noise level of the aircraft. It also changes the performance of the aircraft ! One needs to perform test flights with different prop diameters and pitches to determine what the operator is happy with. You may find a quieter prop selection, but you may lose performance

Thanks to your previous review, I tried these (orange) and am happy with them. The price for the props for the Mini 2 is good. Not sure I'd want to pay the greater price for props for one of the larger quads.
I mainly want to point out that mine came with screws that have some kind of compound already on them, which makes them more secure. I assume it's some kind of thread locking stuff. Anyway, mine seem secure as installed.
Also, props sound better, yes. If there's a performance difference, better or worse or the same, I cannot tell yet.

I have bought a set of these blades aswell. ( Due to your previous review on them 👍). I did notice the screws that come with the blades do have a small dab of blue lock tight on them. So I imagine as long as you use those screws and not the original ones or you dab a bit of lock tight on them it should be fine. Did your friend take the original screws out and then just reuse them or did he use the ones supplied with the new blades?

Mine also became loose after each flight, after about two months. Using the master airscrew supplied screws, and had their patch lock on the threads too. Not loctite, that stuff eats plastic! Even the “plastic” labeled brand, read the back, it’ll say degrades some plastics, the gas that’s released when setting will destroy your drone. They all are using a blue patch like vibratite or nylok not loctite. I would have to rescrew my screws every flight till I finally threw them away, didn’t and can’t risk the drone falling and hurting anyone

Hi Mike got these my self and done a wee review on them and had a few comments about people getting error messages loose screws so I advised a little locktight. I find them good props but certainly seems to be issues out there. Can it be people not tightening enough in fear of stripping the screw holes or possibly over tightening would have preferred quick release props on the mini 2 takes the element of error away and with the stock dji props being of good quality they are hard to beat. I got them from USA as not stocked in UK at the time. But they are now available via amazon here in the uk and obviously much cheaper as the shipping is expensive

Thats why i always check the screws to my props before every flight. Always have a philips screwdriver with me that fits perfect and its magnetic also so i dont drop any screws either. Because the philips screwdriver that come with my mini 2 are not so good to screw with.
REMEMBER THIS CHECK ALWAYS YOUR SCREWS BEFORE EVERY FLIGHT. And if you want to be extra sure they stays on use locktight or treadlock this you can take a q-tip dip in locktight and use little on every screw let them dry before you screw them on your drone.
Thanks for a great video i just bought my mini 2 because it was better price for sure and i didnt have 700 euro extra when i bought my drone. Something i do check every time. One of my first drones i bought back in 2018 had screw on propellers that fitted to the metal thread of the motor. I decided after 6 months to put on loctite, to be extra safe. On the next flight some 350m away my drone disappeared over the sea. Obviously never found and/or get SD card to see what happened. Bought another one, gave it the same loctite treatment out the box. First flight and thank heavens this time over grass and a height of only 10/12 metres, it dropped out the sky. I discovered the loctite was eating the plastic, causing the propellers to split on the thread hub. So never again. I would contact DJI first and make sure witch one to use as there are different types of loctite available. Sorry for the long winded comment, but just trying to make people aware of my experience. Thanks Mike. 👍

This video drove me to look at the replacement props I got in the DJI Fly More kit (is that the right name?) The replacement props have instructions in about 0.4 type face which is tough on an old man. They specify that the included screws should be used when replacing the props. Have you noticed any degredation of performance with the Master Airscrew props? With a lower pitch, it would seem that the top speed & perhaps the wind handling abilities would be adversely affected. Before getting into 'drones' (UAVs), I vlew RC aircraft .. going back 60 years to some very primitive RC systems (by today's standards). It would be interesting to program a repeatable GPS flight path/circuit to do a few times with each set of props and compare the flight time. A hover test as well.
Quieter props are usually less aggressive and will draw less current from the battery, but give less acceleration.

I really think when it comes to noise reduction there needs to be a complete redesign effort. I would say a drop from around 80db as I tested multiple times at 3m away and 1.5m up (yes with all conditions the same for oem and ms) down to 30db at least is a proper reduction.

Nice video. I wish Master Airscrew made some for the Parrot Anafi too. In my opinion the OEM tend to break in the hub area in many pilots.

the drone is tracked by radar so it is not stealth. those propellers are useless they only serve to decrease the noise of the drone.

Furthest I took it was 800 m before I lost my gonads I didn’t have the nuts to take it any further flew round and Came back. That was sitting in my backyard and I don’t know what I would’ve done if I’d lost it I have already told you the story about my infected back at that stage it was no way I could’ve even got in my car and drove to go find it that’s why I lost my nerve.

I bought 3 sets.. tried one set for 2 days.. Lower frequency but just as loud. Accellerates faster. But killed 3 min of my flight time.. DJI sets top speed. so you cant go faster.. I put the other 2 sets on ebay for $15 each. free shipping... I didnt like them. Dont waste your money.
