Egg yolks have a gelatinous property in them that will thicken when frozen. By adding in salt or sugar before freezing, it will stop it from happening. Add in 1 teaspoon of salt per cup of eggs for eggs that will be used for savory items like scrambled eggs, omelets or souffles.May 1, 2020 I googled and this might be useful to you or others.
Thank you,the UK is now rationing eggs so I'm starting to buy and looking for a work to store because Christmas will definitely be crazy, actually salt is used in almost all of the egg's preparations so salt not a bad thing.
Thank you for the information. It's very useful. One small thing, most liquids don't expand when they're frozen - they shrink. Water is one of the only liquids (and the only non-metallic liquid) that expands when frozen. I don't think it matters to most people watching this video though. Great information. I'm going to use it for my next camping trip.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been looking at videos that tell you to freeze them in silicone muffin containers (whole) or in ice cube trays. But they never go to the full extent of showing you how to thaw and then how they cook up. I sooo appreciate that you do show us full circle. I'm definitely going to use your method, as scrambled and in recipes is the only way I use eggs. God bless!
TIP: Save sandwich bags by freezing whisked eggs in standard ice trays, then move them to gallon bags once frozen. I get a ratio of (about) 1 egg per 2 cubes.
I would have never thought to freeze eggs, so this is a good video! I always seem to have too many eggs or not enough when I need them so this will be very helpful, thanks!
A lady told me to lightly sprinkle the egg yolk with salt before freezing. It worked. The first few I froze the texture was not right. Salt made my thawed egg normal.
@@PrimeDirective101 I cracked the egg and put it all in a silicone ice tray. After filling all trays I added a lil sprinkle of salt over each yolk. When thawed it looked like an egg I had just broken. Without the salt the yolks seemed thick...with it they were more like a freshly broken egg.
Freeze whole eggs overnight. Pull out individually. Peel while frozen. Slice into 4 slices. Place slices in rows. Freeze and place in ziploc. 1) Fry individual slices 2) brownie in a cup use 1 or 2 thawed slice(s).
Very helpful oops I already froze my eggs whole in their own tiny container I found at the dollar tree, I’m having to thaw them out in the fridge the night before and you are right yolk never seems to thaw I have to chop it up. Good video thx
Whisking the eggs first is the best way I have found so far. Freezing whole egg does not work well. The yolk did not thaw well & cook up nicely. I had to overcook mine to make sure the yolk was cooked & it had a weird texture. Not so great. Thanks for sharing

Very helpful, thanks My ice tray also too small though I wonder if buying a bigger size tray would save bags in the long run. Depends on if worth the effort
I bought a silicon ice that at Walmart..even has a lid...freezes 8 large space...can stack another... when frozen pop them out and put in zip lock freezer bag. To thaw put in dish in fridge overnight...
I just froze 40 eggs in bags whole, I'll use my hand blender to get the yolk broken up.. Next set I'll whisk. I Crack them into sandwich bags 3 in each bag, after freezing will be vacuum sealing them to extend usage time.. Imagine 30dollars a doz of cage eggs in my country.. Thanks much for this informative video.👍
Oh my goodness, I think I made a mistake. I just came across this video after I froze my eggs a few days ago. I bought 2 boxes of 60 eggs each and just put the whole box in the freezer because a friend told me I can freeze my eggs to preserve them a bit more. I should've done my own research. 🙉 Now I'm assuming they are all going to get freezer burn or maybe no longer he good. Any tips on what you would do in my situation?
Well, while I explain that they do not have the best texture if frozen whole, you can still use them. I suggest you thaw however many you need, use the blender to whip them up real good and then cook them as needed.
Always like to repurpose items. Thoroughly-washed tuna fish cans or cat food cans are good for freezing eggs. Cans may be be sterilized in the dishwasher. I freeze the eggs then when frozen transfer to plastic bags or vacuum seal them. The cans stack nicely in the freezer. Run hot water over the bottom of the can to release the egg.
Girl...Thank you so much...you just saved me from messing up this dozen of eggs bigtime! Very helpful, straightforward video...and the "this is your brain on drugs"...lol!
Hello, you just created a new way to separate the yoke from the egg white. Did you notice how it expels the yoke from the egg white? Genius. This is how experiments yield technology. So I can whisk the eggs (no salt no sugar) so just a little whisk.
Silicone muffin pans are awesome for freezing eggs Just pop them out & toss in a freezer zip bag I can get 2 dozen in a gallon freezer zip bag I should say mine are duck eggs so you could possibly get more chicken eggs in a gallon bag.
Get a glass of extra warm water... Place whole egg in the glass. Leave it for a few minutes, it will bring the egg's tempture down to room tempture fairly quickly.
If you soaked them in warm or hot water or microwave them you are basically cooking them. Only use tap water or leave on the counter while you are prepping your other ingredients or drink your coffee.
I tried freezing eggs without beating them first.....yes they're still edible but no matter how long you attempt to thaw them, the yolk just doesn't mix well with the white. It looked like meringue with clumps of yolk in it. lol If I freeze them again, I'll scramble them first. I like my omelets. Another method for storing eggs long term is put them in lime water. Do a search for that method.
@@MOMables lol I did so before watching your vid and did 4 doz like that. I did figure out it does help if I use a potato masher to mash the yolks and be careful not to actually beat/whisk them. lol
I did not understand the If the peeled eggs have to be seen after cracking a bit, then it is right that if you keep it the same, then it will be right. Please reply me i want to freeze eggs but i can't find a good way .
Sorry maybe I missed something, but isnt the issue with your whole frozen egg that you have not thawed it through all the way? Looks like you just partially thawed it but the yolk was still frozen. Thawed some more, then there would be no issue.
No. The issue is that the texture changes greatly. Eggs should be whisked before freezing. The yolk, after thawing, doesn’t reconstitute well on its own but ok when mixed with the white.
While you can freeze hard boiled eggs, you might not want to for the simple reason that the egg white becomes rubbery and simply not enjoyable to eat at all (quite disgusting actually).
I use the soup tray container, o have 4 spot for 2 cups each, I add 3 eggs in each and after freezer I move them to one ziploc bag .. when I need them I just take one portion ( 3 eggs ) and done .
