I just bought one of the 84" versions of this rack, and I think the entire neighborhood heard me as I struggled with assembling this disaster. Between missing parts, misplaced holes, parts that would not fit and needing a ratcheting tow strap to pull it together to get the "slide in" attaching points to fit together, I pretty well turned the air blue for several blocks around (be sure the kids' tinder ears are not around when trying to build this junk). I had to use different bolts in several points as the ones supplied would not fit (holes were either in the wrong places or the threads were not correctly made and bolts would not tighten), and the bolts are made with such cheap metal that if you do manage to get the supplied hex wrench to put them in, the wrench strips the heads as you tighten them so the bolts can never be removed again. The 84"x 39" dimensions listed on Amazon are not the actual sizes (closer to 79" x 37") due to the steep angle of the front which makes the forward 6" or so useless. I managed to dent the bars on the rear trying to use a mallet to drive the "slide in" joints together, then figured out you need a ratchet tow strap to do the job, so be sure you have one available. To fit the extension section in you have to first press the left and right sides of each into each other, then press two connecting shafts, and 4 endcap sets in all at the same time, and hope the holes line up to bolt it in (which they won't do). When putting in the flat side supports in make sure you do NOT tighten the bolts until you have them all in place as they don't fit very well and I even had 3 of the holes not fit at all (had to use metal screws instead of the provided bolts). All in all it took about 90 minutes to assemble this beast with a lot of tugging, pounding, and swearing along the way.

My 84x50 was really took only 45 minutes, maybe an hour. I swapped the bolts out for black ones at Rural King (they havent rusted yet👍)

Bedline would be sick on it and make it look even thicker... nice solution offer. Just ordered ours. Will definitely spray liner it.

Ah, so you DIDN'T coat it with Rustoleum before you assembled it!
Yeah, like they said in 6th grade Science class - Steel Rusts! Take a Closer look, It's Likely the Bolts that started rusting 1st, then the intergranular Started inside the bolt holes. UV light destroys the paint that it comes with.
Coat everything with a 12 ounce can of Flat Black Rustoleum Anti-UV, followed by a clear coat of the Anti-UV Matte. The Bed Liner sorta works, but only as a final. Mine - The finish lasted 5 years before I had to redo it. And I frequent 10K+ altitude a LOT, Frequent high desert (dusty rocky) campouts (practice bug outs?)

@@luisguerrero9776 I don't know where you live, but I just go to my friendly neighborhood Hardware Store. Or (around here) just about every car-care. Example: Auto-Zone. They all carry pretty much most colors. And the SalesMan pretty much, if you ask, Will show you a list on their "Look-up" terminal around the store. I've had the same one on my 2000 XJ for 3 years now. It's held up well. Only gripe is the sun killed the paint so it's completely faded, but what do you expect in the AZ desert where I live.

How is it for wind noise when your going 40 -70 MPH?
I hear to take it to a paint shop and put a Bed-liner coating before installation. Thoughts on that?
