Im still a rookie, Is it ok to do water changes when cycling a tank? I've heard not to do that because you remove ammonia and slow down the build up of bennificial bacteria. Therefore never completing th cycling process. I've been waiting for my ammonia and nitrites to drop to 0ppm before doing a water change.

I don't get it, either. It's a box of water with plants, wood, substrate, and fish in it. How do you make that manly or womanly? It's like saying a hiking trail or a lake is manly or womanly. It's just nature. One of the beauties of nature is that all humans can enjoy it and are built to enjoy it regardless of gender. Why try to shoehorn stereotypes into one of the few things in our lives that don't have any?

Thanks for the inspiring video. After watching this video, I went to Petsmart and purchased a male Rose Petal Betta. He is Royal blue with bright yellow fins. When setting up his new home, I used what I had on hand at home. I set up a 10 gallon tank with a heater, pea gravel from Lowe’s, some fake plants I already had and driftwood. For filtration I used a Top Fin Silent Stream 40 HOB filter. That filter is a bit big for a 10 gallon tank but the flow can be adjusted . I’ve turned it to the lowest setting. There is very little flow and the betta likes that. I keep the heat set to around 80 degrees. My new Betta (I haven’t decided on a name yet) is very active and loves his new home. I also keep 6 feeder goldfish rescues in a 75 gallon aquarium. I started with 2 feeders about six months ago and they are now about 4 inches in length. Last month I rescued 3 more feeders. After being quarantined for a month, they are now enjoying their new 75 gallon home. Thanks again to you and your wife for all the great videos. I learn something new each time I watch you guys.

Funny enough, my ex friend (male) actually teased me (female) for having fish tanks because he thought of it as a manly hobby 😂😂 Because men go fishing, build tanks, build stands, etc so he found it weird for me, a girl, to build my own tank, build my stand, have natural stuff inside like driftwood, live plants and rocks. He considered it manly because “Women don’t like getting their hands dirty” 😅 no longer friends with him after that. Plus he had a 1gal tank with no heater for his betta with no hides, blue gravel, fake neon plants and has a pirate ship that was way too big for the tank so it took up half of it. He also said that cycling didn’t matter (it very much does). Another reason I’m not friends with him anymore.

They contradict everything it feels, told me betta fix would kill my betta because of tea tree oils I believe will suffocate him. I found your channel and you have calmed me down and saved me lots of anxiety. They legit bullied me over the 2.5 gal tank the pet store recommended so I got a bigger tank and got bullied for that because it was too big. I've never even thought of a masculine or feminine fish tank, but I do bond with some fish. (Shout out to Allen and Steve, my two fav cory cats!) Thanks for bringing up this topic. We can always talk about a fish or a water parameter, but we don't often discuss the emotional and social issues of fish keeping. I'm glad to say that if I saw any man with any fish tank on his desk, I would have thought it was cool and never would have thought to question his manhood. I get that some people feel differently.

I have a55g that I’m slowly stocking. I have fancy guppies and orange laser Cory cats in there now, with ember tetra’s quarantined in a20g before I add them to the 55g. My ultimate goal is getting 6-7 female bettas. My LFS raises his female bettas in the same tank, which I think is a plus for peaceful living. My tank is heavily planted, has rock caves, driftwood, and plenty of hiding places. I have a 15g with a divider that’s cycling now, also heavily planted, has driftwood caves, and will be the home of 2 male bettas and some otocinclus. I think my tank looks masculine because how does a tank look feminine with rocks, driftwood and jungle plants and 2 boy bettas?! Setting up the tank was fun. Now the hard part - picking 2 bettas. My LFS has a very sophisticated system for his bettas which includes filtration and heat for each betta - and they don’t live in little cups. Consequently, he has the most gorgeous bettas in the most gorgeous colors, and they are extremely active. So different from Petsmart and Petco. I can’t wait until the beta tank is finished cycling!

I took the "hard way"; lots of plants, stones, roots, air stone etc and my friends was picking me up, even my girlfriend was picking me. I have 30l or 10 gallon tank with 13 chili rasboras, 7 shrimps and 2 assasin snails, when my girlfriend and friends saw it; i think they are going to get nano tank as well. :D
I didn't know pretty much nothing when i decided to buy the nano tank to my home office desk, lot of research and a long 3 week journey before tank was fully cycled.
    Totally worth it.

The name Betta (or betta) is pronounced /ˈbɛtə/ the first part is the same as the English word bet. The name is often pronounced /ˈbeɪtə/ in American English, and may be spelled with one 't'. The name of the genus is derived from the Malay word ikan betah ("persistent fish").

the fluval and aquaion products can leach voltage into the tank. both of these filters did this with the 55g gallon fluval hang on back and the internal 10gallon filter aquaion. the fish werent harmed but i could feel the static charge on the water surface every time i put my hand in the water.

I had one of those in my tank in high school because it looked cool. Right now I'm planning an all things goth tank with a dino skull replica, a Texas holey rock 3D background, black lava rock, driftwood, bucephalandra (all the darkest ones), black angel fish, black platties, black guppies, and a white sand substrate with kuhli loaches or some other black bottom feeder that tickles my fancy (maybe a school of black corys). Does this sound masculine or feminine? Lol.

ANd its no longoer swollen, can't wait for further healing

Nice video, coincidentally I started a Betta tank in January. Found a nice used Tetra half moon 10 gallon tank that came with led light heater and filter. First thing was paint the back black added a couple of white stones and a ceramic tower my Daughter brought back from Thailand a few years ago, planted the tank and waited a week for cycling. The little heater works great and keeps the tank at a steady 75-82, I decided not to use the little filter as I had an older Eheim 2213 laying around, plenty of power for this little tank and filter cleaning every 4 months now :).
First occupants were a trio of Platies an Apple snail for the glass and a Trumpet snail for the substrate. Big Al's had a sale on Neon Tetras - 10 Neons were perfect for the 10 gallon, a few days later I spotted a nice male Red Crowntail Betta. With his red exterior and blue undertones he fits right in with the Neons, Being livebearers I might have to rethink having the Platies - sure I could feed them to the Cichlids in the 75 - maybe I'll just keep the males....
Manly or not my Grand Daughters loves the little fish in the little tank as well as the big fish in the big tank
