My father who’s extremely Catholic and anti pagan. Planted a bunch of trees on the backside of the pond on the property. And the way they’re planted all mimics the formation of the pond. I didn’t say anything but I looked at it and thought, you built a sacred grove. 😂
Awesome video Jacob! My favorite place to give offerings and be in nature is a little park not too far from my house called Scout Lake Park. It has a nice pond, walking trails in the woods, lots of wildlife, and it just feels nice to be there :) They keep the walking paths clear of snow all winter long so I can get in there to leave offerings to the spirits and the Gods. It's just lovely :)

My kindred has started developing our sacred grove over the last two months, it's a probably 30 ish yard open area that's in woods but borders some swamp. Some homeless guy in the area actually guessed it was "some kind of Viking thing" (eh close enough) and left offerings at it.
my sacred space is in the woods at the park, I used to go to this park before I learned about paganism and I would record my music there. the more time I spent in nature the more I felt a connection.
I am also from KY (Paducah), living on the MS coast now. You talk about a patch of trees in the middle of a field in Illinois as being an OK place. I find those to be particularly sacred and special. There is something about an oasis of trees and life in the middle of an open corn field that seems concentrated in some form. I'll tell you another interesting phenomena. If you look out across open fields in Western KY especially, you will tend to see bald spots randomly appearing. The crop will be barren in that spot. What happened is the New Madrid Earthquake was so powerful, that it caused sand eruptions in the ground like huge landmines. Pockets of water would explode with sand and gravel leaving sandy circles where not much but scrub grass can grow. They are still around over 200 years later. Look for these spots because I have always found them to be especially spiritual. Damp sand surrounded by clay and topsoil act like liquid crystal radios when they are located over places with lots of low grade seismic activity all the time.
you can talk to the woods in places like this, and it will always answer. play it some songs, sing, talk. It wants to listen, it wants to know who you are. the fae are always around you.
Im still learning all about pagan beliefs and practices, but I suppose I already have a sacred place. For me, I live on a large island in Canada with many smaller islands nearby. One of the smaller islands is about a 1 hour sail away, then about 30 minutes hiking into the island, throught the old growth forest is a large clearing with a singular fairy tree. This is where I come to visit every time I come to this island and where I reflect on my life.

One little correction, though: the Osterseen here in Germany (where I live) aren't actually named after the goddess Ostara/Eostrae, even though this would have been pretty cool. "Ost/Osten" is the German word for east, the direction, which is what the name for these lakes derives off of. Same as, for example, the town Osterode in the German Harz mountains further north in the country. Sometimes something sounds pagan to us, but etymologically it has different roots, and there always needs to be discernment along with our enthusiasm to find hints of our faith in the world around us. ☺
I am mainly Frisian (with Saxon and Danish) and have been learning as much as I can about them. I was interested to find out they also had sacred groves and sacred oak trees. I have a great love of forests, stone.
Hey Jacob! I am a Catholic, but I’m not satisfied with their beliefs. Watching your videos has opened my eyes. I think I want to follow your beliefs but don’t know where to start. Im a little confused, I realize that, but every time I think of the Norse Gods I feel calm and collected. I don’t know. Maybe my love for the mythology is clouding my judgement or perhaps I’ve misconstrued my feelings. All I know is, I’ve lost sense of direction. Can you give me some advice, please? I don’t know why, but I feel a connection to Norse Paganism or maybe it’s just my crazy mind trying to make sense of everything that’s happened to me in the past few years. Please help

I'm curious if you could drop a hint or two about that location without giving away particulars that might spoil some of the sanctity. I live about 500 miles from my old Ky stomping grounds, and I'm unlikely to venture into that territory soon, but I miss my favorite wild spots.

There is a stream behind my house where I sit and give offerings. It is beautiful. The cats love it too, which my deity is Freya and Freyr.
