    I love the comic pro line and have started switching out all my books into the silver age with thick 56pt boards. I love the look and the stability of the board gives me more confidence in handling the books themselves. I also like the look of modern books in silver age bags and having a bit of a border around the book.

    I have been re-bagging and boarding a large collection over the last six months. Many of those comics were in 20+ year old bags. I started using the ComicPro product which I really like. When I couldn't get my hands on those I tried the ComiCare option but quickly relegated them to dollar books. I also tried BCW and thought they were ok. However, I eventually just bought 1000 ComicPro bags and boards directly from ComicPro. After shipping it worked out to about the same price as at my LCS (~$20 CAD per set) but I got my preferred product. Anyway, I really do like the ComicPro product. I hope they look this good after 10+ years so I don't have to do this again for a while.

    Excellent video! I used to your code to buy some comic book storage boxes! Thank you!
    Those Comic Pro line bags are the way to go! They are super nice! I hardly ever use Mylar anymore. The Comic Pro line OPP bags are 2 mil thick and when paired with their 56pt boards it's a perfect match. I have used Comic Pro Line 28pt boards which are slightly thicker than the boards in your video, but preferred the 56pt boards.
    I have those same size BCW bags, for thicker comics. I use them for 100 page giants and other big books.
    I prefer the Pro Line Reg/Silver size (green labels) for my current books, 7 1/8" bags with 7" boards, leaves a nice edge around comic .

    Great video - I always use BCW but will definitely look at the Comicpro line as the wrinkling you demonstrated is certainly a parent and BCW. You did not discuss resealable bags versus non-resealable put my two cents is that the resealable bags are better since they seal the “entire” flap more tightly. Informative video. Would you say that using the BCW size combo that you show here would still fit a thicker comic ok since the board is taking up a little more space in the bag than a current (6 3/4 in wide) board would?

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  Год назад

      Great question. It depends on the thickness. If you're talking 80 page, it could get a bit tight, and for that I would recommend the Current Thick bags (which are 7 inches wide) and the regular board (which is a 6 7/8 inch wide board).

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  2 года назад

      Early bronze age books won't fit in current bags. In 1974, comics were changed to have a smaller width. So anything after this change (when comics still had 25 cent cover price) is the same size as current comics, and should fit fine. Anything before it will need to go in a silver age bag or like I use, the "thick current" by BCW, because those are 7inch bags in width. Hope this helps!

    If you use silver age comic care boards, they're 7×10 1/2 and are the same size and fit as the BCW. I've used silver boards with regular comic (7 1/8) UltraPro bags for years now, no complaints here.

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  2 года назад

      Yeah not much difference in the boards outside of a slightly smoother cut on the BCWs. Ultra pros are crystal clear, but I stopped using them because they have been wrinkling much faster than my BCW bags. I think around 2017, they changed either the plastic or how they produce it. They started feeling slightly thinner as well.

    I've used Comic Care and BCW. BCW has a crisp and clear look with a semi-mylar feel to it. The bags and boards are uniform together and a little bit thick as a standard board.
    Comic Care is definitely like how you stated, filmy with a silver glaze to it. Almost like a cheap bag. The boards are cut uniform together, but the bags are not. Out of 100 bags, you'll get about 80+/- bags that fit loose, 15+/- tight fitted bags and the rest that are cut badly and don't fit a backing board. The texture on the bag also makes them slip when you stack comics on them so they will slide and fall after 3 or 4 books. I just found I wasted money with these.
    Comic Pro Line is a bit more expensive, but very clear. I bought some books from Bueller and some came in the Comic Pro Line bags and boards. Looks just like and feels like mylar.

    Back in 2020 I bought a package of Mylar bags for around $18 (50 count) for the cream de la creame of my collection, in 2022, I looked to check the price of the bags, it was more than double the price around $45, it was easier just to sell off some of the lower value back issues, instead of buying more Mylar bags, If you have a lot of valuable 20th century comics they are worth it, if you have a lot of common older comics, it's not.

    I always used comicare for my modern PC books because they have a 3 mil option and scotch tape comes off it suoer easy. The 3 mil is even cloudier though. The big issue is their QC is terrible hence the bags being too big. Ive gotten packs where they are way too small as well. Really bad QC especially recently.

    As for poly bags for me personally, i prefer the 3-mm Big Fudge comic bags even though it was 50 bags for $11.99 compared to BCW 100 bags at 6.99 at my LCS and the Big Fudge bags offered better protection for my comics, but when it comes to boards i tried the Big Fudge boards and found it poorly cut and flimsy compare to the BCW boards... so i still use the BCW boards combined with my Big Fudge bags.

    If someone can help about my issue I'm having with my ultra pro bags and boards that would be greatly appreciated. Basically, ever since I bought ultra pro bags and boards the bags the bags are slightly taller than the backing boards forcing me to have to pull down on the comic bag's flap a lot harder to tape the comics correctly and they often leave a lot of air at the top of the comic bag as it doesn't close cleanly. I'm not sure whether to switch to a new brand entirely or hopefully find a solution to my problem.
    As I said if someone could help that would be muchappreciated

    Hey jeno. Been watching you awhile and like your content. I think pro line are the best bags with bcw boards. Something you didn't point out is that bcw and comic care both slide when you stack the books. Ultra pros don't slip at all. You can stack 50 books and they won't move. That being said. You cannot put thick books in pro lines. They simply don't fit. So bcw thick book is the way to go for that.

    OK - Severely Damaged BCW delivery. I wish I could post photographs here!
    I have been re-bagging and boarding my collection and based on this video I ordered 1000 bulk silver
    egular bags and boards from BCW. Also 500 bags and boards from Pro-line. Let’s start with the easier one. I love Pro-line. I had never ordered them before watching Chris in this video. They came with a very strong box and corner cardboard protectors so that all the boards were perfect when they arrived. The bags are great and I have experienced no splitting.
    Now onto the BAD. I have ordered from BCW in the past and sometimes some of the boards get slightly dinged up from corner damage of the outer box . Today was a whole other story. I just received my UPS order and the entire bottom and three of the four sides of the box were split open. Boards were hanging out, crushed, and wet. I can’t even believe that UPS delivered it. There is no board protection inside the box and they are in direct contact with the outer cardboard. So when the other cardboard got slightly wet, so did the boards. I’ve taken pictures and I’m waiting to see how BCW will handle this. I really dislike the way they packaged this without protection of the boards inside the cardboard. Any damage to the outer box will damage the boards as well. I will give an update once I hear back from BCW. They’re not open on the weekends and I have left a phone message and email.

      Just a follow up: BCW handled this extremely well and to my satisfaction. They asked me for some photos which I provided and offered me either a replacement or refund without the hassle of having to return the heavy damaged box I had received. They (Ken) replied Quickly and politely. I’m very happy with their customer service and will buy again.

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  2 года назад

      Thanks for sharing this, Marc! Ironically, almost the same thing happened to me a few years back. Bought 1000 boards in bulk, and UPS or USPS (whoever delivered it) throw the box all around and the box was ripped open and the majority of the boards were damaged. They did the same thing for me; let me keep the damaged boards and the sent me another 1000. Those one's came unharmed.
      I wish they would package them with a bit more protection, but I understand buying in bulk is meant to save you money and that's why they ship them the way they do. Ultimately, it comes down to how the delivery service folks are handling the package along the way.
