I am still a novice sewist at 44 years old, I self taught myself as an adult from RUclips videos alone. How lucky we are to have so much information available to us on the internet! I was a little intimidated by all the measuring to create your templates, but you explained everything so clearly I didn't have any issues making them! Hi Christine, what about a bit of binding to cover the opening instead? And perhaps with the binding you can add a loop to hang on a hook?

❤ nice job. So turn it back through the just the thumb part and sew it and you will have to finish the ends then turn it back out that will only be seen on the inside of the thumb part. I saw it on crafty Patti.

If you have the potholder turned our right ways, flip the end that needs closed to where the finger part is on the wrong side. Sew closed and flip back. You will have a exposed seam on the inside but much easier to close that way

I was just rewatching some of your videos and came across this one, I guess I had missed it. I have been making these for 3 years using the Crafty Patti method, works great and easy. Really quick and great for batch sewing.

@@ChristinesHomeAffairs I just trim the seam down to about 1/4" and zig zag or serge the seam. Unless you have really long thumbs you shouldn't even feel it. My short fat fingers have never had a problem. My 24 yr. old grandson took one out of my tickle truck (make ahead stash) and apparently he takes it to bed with him because if he leaves it out for other people to use he can never find it again, lol. He loves it, that much. I have done batchs of 20 in a day (sold out and had to restock quickly) and super easy and fast and great return. Also on the car trash organizer bag, check out Loren Moremino's. It is a great design combined with the taper I think I am close to what I want.
I've actually dome a video on the car trash bag with a couple of options for the handle. Hope to have it ready this week😀
Use those kinds of potholders all the time. They’re my favorites.

I think it would be easier if you cut the padding 1/4 to 1/2 inch shorter for the opening and iron the fabric at the closure before sewing so all you need to do it pin and top stitch.

Hi Christine, I've made these and what I do to close the bottom is turn it inside out sew it and then turn it right side out. Hidden seam. 😊

What a great gift idea and doesn’t take up much room in the drawer. Wondering if you’ve got any green ideas for substituting interfacing? I’ve used calico on things but some things it just is no substitute. Love quick makes.
Thanks Jenny. You could try old cotton towelling for batting, and a think cotton like lawn or voile as interfacing. All being natural fibres will eventually break down 🙂

I would get burned with those. Janet gave me a very small pot holder made to fit over the handle of a hot cast iron skillet. It works great; and, it stays on the handle until I remove it. That handle pot holder would really be hard to turn right side out. Thank you for this video.

Had another thought, if binding was on before assembly on each side of the turning end, when turned, simply stitch both binding strips together. Because it's possible to avoid the bulky part that way?

I thought it could be easier to tuck the opening shut if the waddling was cut a little shorter on the opening part so you wouldn’t have all that bulk 😉

Wondering why you don’t just sew a smaller seam allowance instead of cutting it down?
From memory, there were so many layers Cathy, that I wanted to catch it all in a bigger seam allowance. 😃
Hi. after I made and turned through my own oven mitt, hand shaped, adult size. I wish I had used binding.
My 1st thought was why not binding on the lower edge.
That could be done in batches.
Or the whole item with binding. Compare the time taken. Let's see what else gets suggested
When I've made pincushions or other small things I've always found you still need to turn the straight edges in, by sewing at least a tiny bit of the edge going to be left as the turning gap. Or adjust the gap width to make it possible. Or less time consuming fiddly.
I hope my suggested changes make sense.

Do you have a link for the light weight cotton batting?
They're good suggestions Anita. I might have to see how I go.... Any cotton batting will do, just as long as it's not too thick. You could even use cotton towelling if you like 😀

Tracey, I didn't time how long it took me, but I plan on doing a video on pricing today. Should be up in a few days.... Work out what you want per hour$$, Hourly rate / production per hour plus any expenses you have. So if you make 2 per hour, and want $30 an hour.... $30 / 2 = $15 each, but then you need to add cost of goods as well 😀

What if you tried a bias binding across the bottom or all the way around like we do on the double oven mitt
That's a good idea Jenny. I don't know why, but I've never been a fan of bias edges. I really should give it a go though😀
