I really enjoy watching you two work together. You remind me so much of my Dad and uncle. Everything they did they were doing it together. If strangers walked up on them sometimes they would think they were fighting lol. But they were exactly like you and Wiley just going on with each other having a good time. Keep up the good work and keep putting these videos out. Thanks for sharing!!

Just an idea if when installing something heavy like that use a couple of studs screwed in the bolt holes then put it on the studs and slide it in that way it takes some of the weight then put in a couple of the right bolts in and snug them up pull out the studs then put in the right bolts.
It saves the back and arms

    Thanks for another great video.
This old Mack is putting up a fight for sure. I don’t know anything about these Mack’s so am not much help to you.
Am sure some comments will push you in the right direction.
Hang in there. Got to be getting closer to making it run again.
Thanks for everything Hank and Wiley.
Looking forward to part three on this old Mack.
    Thanks.

smear some grease on the gasket it will stick it there. Have a nice Wilton vice on the truck yet - chuck that between wood jaws an you can take stuff off and on easily. Or simply on a nut that is in a different rotation and simply holding.

Yes Wiley, that packaging was made for that pump... We used to send out Windshields packed like that... You wrap the item in the gray film, then spray the foam around it.... The foam expands and fills the gaps as it dries.....

🇬🇧 Hi. Hank & Wily interesting project you have taken on , Do you know that you can buy Magnetic Screw Trays so when you are taking Bolts and Screws out they stay in the Tray , what I normally do is I put a piece of Masking tape on the tray and write on it where I have taken the Bolts and Screws From what part of the Engine , Just a Tech Tip for the future I hope it helps , also any heavy part I suspend by a Strap to take the weight off holding it , especially if I was working on my own with no one to hold it . Keep the vids coming boys 👍

Fellas love the videos but if both pins line up it's in time the pump has too turn with the motor so as long as they line up it will be fine turning the pump or the motor so it doesn't matter which one you turn plus you can twist the pump housing love the videos and the comedy

That's a very expensive pump or repair just to start up an old truck sitting in a field. I sold a lot of Mack Factory reman fuel pumps in the 80s but I have no idea how to time one . I've should have learned from one of the mechanics in the shop. That's silver canister sticking out on the front of the pump I think is what they called a puff limiter which was supposed to help eliminate unburned Fuel and smoke. Sold a lot of those as well you can't beat a Mack from that era there like a tank.

Well gentlemen or if ya prefer by now, shi*heads, have done some kind of a ton of work.... I been there and done that plus called myself a shi*head before I was through. I can't stress enough about writing down everything and not to leave to memory... I say it and broke the golden rules a good many times cause of doing a few and so how could I miss... and did miss that time. Before camera phones, we did write it down plus one thing to ever make things easier on yourself again is making tools for the job. Look in any old timers tool box and your going to find tools that make no sense to anyone but him/her. Those tools for taking off or putting on fuel systems were regarded as a tool never ever for about any reason but for just doing a fuel pump on say a mack or a cummins engine. Now whether they were wrapped up in a towel or in a special spot in their box, they bent or ground off the parts that would not allow a socket or a wrench so it did work. I suppose your going to call me a dang lyer but I took a piece of cable and after a good amount of time getting all the oil and grease out of it, welded sockets to that cable or made it so you could use different sockets on it and get past spots that the extension would of looked like a snake going into those places. From crows foot to a wrench with spots ground off or the sides of it so thin that you wondered if it was strong enough to even work after all of the modifying of it. Lots of my box end wrenches were ground off on the part of the wrench to allow it to go where a regular box end wouldn't go. Another one was quarter inch drive ratchets were modified to allow it to work with a lot bigger sockets than you can buy on it... That meant that you couldn't use a adaptor on it to make them work because of the space you had so if you did use a ratchet, it was ratchet and then socket and no extensions. I started making sure I had good grease or silicone to fix a gasket to hold it in place while installing something. But one thing sure, you never loaned any pump tools, you never used them even just once on something else... pumps only and it was the golden rule we made for ourself. When we knew the pump was coming off, that engine was put in time the way it had to be before any pump came off.... EVERY TIME! We used a torch if needed to get fittings off and never ever rounded the edges if possible as you have found that someone else was into it before and had rounded off the nut or bolt so you couldn't work on it. I have spot welded tools to bolts so they not only held but had heat on them to help break it loose. You might just start with boxes of baggies and also colored zip ties so that it will help to see what went where.... using different colors of zip ties on say hoses so that the two blue went one place and the two red went another and so on. When it comes to timing a fuel pump, no question is a dumb question I have near turned blue trying to explain how on some things work or go on a spot to someone who just didn't understand how or why .... I guess this last thing is getting someone to help on your first few that has done this job before... no need to add people who are as green as yourself unless they were the only sober one on the job. I ain't much help on any Mack as they are just their own special kind of "special".
