  • Welcome to our channel! In this eye-opening video, we delve into the pressing issue of ribbon development and its detrimental impact on Indian roads.
    #RibbonDevelopment #IndianRoads #RoadSafety #UrbanPlanning #Infrastructure
    Ribbon development refers to the haphazard and unplanned growth of buildings and structures along the sides of roads, leading to a host of problems for our transportation systems. As India's population grows and urban areas expand, it becomes crucial to understand the dangers associated with this form of development.
    Join us as we explore the key reasons why ribbon development poses a significant threat to Indian roads. We examine how it hinders traffic flow, compromises road safety, and creates congestion, leading to increased accidents and delays.
    Through expert interviews and real-life examples, we shed light on the environmental consequences of ribbon development, including the loss of green spaces, increased pollution levels, and compromised urban planning. We also highlight the impact on pedestrians and the lack of proper infrastructure to accommodate the growing population.
    It's time to raise awareness about the importance of responsible urban development and the need for better city planning strategies. Let's come together to understand the dangers of ribbon development and explore potential solutions for creating safer and more sustainable Indian roads.

    Ribbon development is not new. And if you notice, most ribbon development is happening within villages and towns. And that makes sense. Even in ancient and medival times, roads connecting villages and towns actually did grow alongside roads. Some of the most popular cities around the world exists due to roads.
    It's natural and not at all harmful. Yes planned manner is necessary but saying Ribbon development is making roads bad is so not true

    Why our roads are dusty ? Please dont say it because of climactic condition. Entire Asean countries has similar condition(trophical) like india but we dont see these kind of dusty roads there . Also gov should think about getting rid of these cheap black and white dividers.

    • @rishav2205
      @rishav2205 Год назад +4

      Lol who said all Asean countries have same climate like india. Why roads look dusty is because of their construction fault which is lack of kerbs in hard shoulders which make accumulated soil underneath the road to loose and eventually dust comes to the road. This is the case with district, state & old higways New expressways are being build with kerbs. That black & white dividers are also present on singapore roads open any street view of it you will know.

      It completely disturbs the highway network and leads to slowdown of highway vehicles moving from one point to another. And if suppose govt decides to expand the highway, they will have to remove all the buildings and structures nearby the highways which exponentially increases the cost of expansion of highways. Although these days , today govt builds service roads but earlier it was not done due to which many highways have to pass directly through the cities or towns leading to massive congestion.

    I don't think ribbon development is much of a problems in long run. Yes its true initially the development takes place only around the highway but as soon the land adjacent to highway is all gone. People do start to move inward. Colonies start to come up and eventually. The society i live is right on the NH-44. 15 years back there was nothing behing my colony but now the development (roads, street lights, utilities) have reached way inward.

      And honestly I don't think there is a way to stop ribbon development because the sole reason people give up their for these new highways and expressways is that the price of their remaining land will exponential increase. So it is logical that all the development will first happen right around the highway.

    We can make rule that after 2020 new 4 to 6 roadway which are build ? If any mall, hotel. or any economy actives are done they must be build at a significance distance from main road like 100 to 300 m from main road. Like a square development on the both sides of the road where machanic, food zones, hotels, fuel stations all are present at distances like 13-15 kms (idk maybe some calculations required) with entry exit options being available there. also square are deicded earlier cannot be streched like if it is decided that here it will be of 100 meter x 300 meters, every things need to be developed in that area only, no extension of area, if area is full consider the next patch of area

    I don't think the Title of the video matches what you are trying to explain here which is, Why ribbion development is bad.
    You have spoken about aspects of ribbon development, negative and positive. But what you have not understood is history behind it in India and how it has already been curtailed. As now its almost impossible in UP, Punjab, Haryana to construct a structure alongside a Highway without a NOC from the NHAI, which is extremely hard to get.
    Being an old nation with ancient travel routes(now brownfield Highways), which were to connect cities, passed through villages connecting them to urban areas as well. That led to urbanization of those villages since centuries turning them into cities. Most brownfield Highways are part of the old highway systems and could not and cannot be access controlled, whereas new greenfield Expressways/Highways are all access controlled though the Quality and Smoothness of the Roads are poor along with planning for Designated Rest Areas. Trans Haryana Expreeway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway etc are the biggest example of this.

    It should be in controlled and organized way.
