Watching this reminds me of helping out periodically in the multiplayer lab at Microsoft when these packs were being made. Basically I was a tester on MW4 and MW4: Black Knight but I moved over to Rise of Nations by the time Mercs and the 'mech packs were being tested. Still, a lot of the multiplayer testing happened in the same lab, so I'd be testing RoN back-to-back with testers (most of whom worked on MW4 with me) who were testing Mercs and the 'mech packs, and so periodically we'd just switch over and all play a 8-player multiplayer match. Fun times for sure. Still, looking back it seems like the quality of 'mech designs suffered a bit (probably a result of the sheer number of 'mechs they made. JEEZ there were a lot!)
This is one of the few games that I've played repeatedly from start to finish on quite a few occasions. The other being Freespace 2. It's a great game despite its age.
DUDE, you just nailed the two games I usually come back to. Mechwarrior IV is a childhood to adult favourite, Freespace 2 I picked up a couple years ago. That first time you're flying through the nebula, and you see the enemy's capital ship illuminated only by its broadsides... Terrific.
Both Freespace games were great; I bought Freespace 2 on the day of its release because I had enjoyed Freespace so much - it plays better with a joystick than with a pad.
@@Pwnzistor the stealth missions are all all about being as quiet as you can, firing your missiles (or taking your readings) and just getting out of there.
One thing I love about MechWarrior IV is how practical the 'Mechs appear. They aren't awkward looking like those in III or complicated like V, they actually look as though they could be used in real warfare.
So many! I wish I had gotten the chance to use MekTek. I used to play Vengeance, Black Knight and Mercenaries all the time, but ever since Windows stopped supporting Microsoft I haven't been able to.
Of course this is way old now, but I just wanted to say that this is the video that got me to play mechwarrior 4 as a kid, and is probably responsible for my continued interest in Battletech today. Thank you!
I prefer mechs like the Blood Asp, Ryoken, Vulture and Hauptmann. I've never really liked the Atlas, Daishi, Warlord and other 100 tonners simply because of speed. Especially in the case of the Blood Asp, a 90 tonner, you can have a very good layout (including dual Gauss on the dorsal cannons) and have good armor, but still keep some speed (if you upgrade the engines). I love the mechwarrior games, and will never stop playing them until my hands turn into dust. Even then, i'll find a way.
Fafnir is still my favorite, those twin heavy guasses it mounts will shed your opposision in an instant (within 600 meters) especially when combined with Clan Large Lasers, i personally would've liked t see some ballistic hardpoints on it though.
Yeah, that one does look interesting with that massive gun mounted in the torso! I might have to give it a try. I like the fact that they're available in the campaign - it could really liven it up for me again.

@raby760 because these were added in the Mek Paks - made by mektek. If you go to their homepage you will fine MW4 free to download with the IS and Clan packs + the around 50 added mechs. You also get new weapons and the multiplayer servers provided by them are very active

It would be really cool if there was a movie made about the Fed Com Civl War. Which takes place in the game so probably we’ll see Specter take place in the movie.
I'm aware, although not familiar with all the different names. Admittedly, the mechs of the same classes don't look the same in each of the Mechwarrior games as they do in the Battletech ones. (MW2's "Timberwolf" may be a Madcat, but it looked skinny and dinky. MechCommander's and MW 4's Raven looks like a fat-headed medium mech, but is registered as a light, and is much skinnier in most TT pieces and the latest MWO.)
I loved Mechwarrior. My problem with 3.1 was that there were too many mechs. Overkill. And if I remember right, the installation wiped out all of the mech configs you had prior to the install and altered some of the pre-existing mechs enough so that you could never configure them the same way again. I did enjoy MekTek's map packs prior to this update though.
Even though MTX has been shutdown for unknown reasons, I downloaded MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries and it already has a current version of MekTek, which has new and more interesting 'mechs for me to pilot them.
Getting melee to work would be annoying. The problem is that in the lore of Battletech, you control the mech with your mind via neurohelmet. But this is contradicted by the fact that they also use traditional inputs like joysticks, throttle, pedals, etc. But the arms of the mech are supposed to be controlled by the mind of the pilot, which is why they can aim their arms off axis, drop their arms to the side, etc, but in most of the games they can't do this, although Mech 3 did it a little bit (but mostly not). Doing this in a game isn't impossible but would require quite a few changes, and the game would have to essentially make it a core feature, instead of it being just one out of innumerable weapons. Because of that, it's typically not worth doing. With that said, it's in Battletech the video game.
@@thuggeegaming659 Indeed and it might take more memory capacity for such a feature. To me it would be worth it though. But I do also agree that a game developer might just put too much emphasis on such a feature... *Sniff* Though in for example the three original Fallout games there are features galore that the player may never think of using... @@Fenris77 It's not so much that the developer would put too much emphasis on melee, they essentially would have to put a lot of emphasis on it. It's not something that can merely be tacked on as a side thought if they wanted to implement it properly, but then that would take away from the other mechanics that are much more important to a Battletech game. Melee is definitely easier to implement in an over the head turn-based tactical game.

you have to have a bit of finese and timing but you'll do a lot of damage. The damage is equal to two LLs and you can get off three pulls of the trigger in 9 seconds before the heat becomes critical. My prefered prey were Assaults and Heavies so i always got up close and personal.
