Could you do a compare and contrast of Pixar's "Up" and Clint Eastwood's "Gran Torino"? They have almost the same plot- a suicidal widower wallows in his regrets while the world threatens to steal his little remaining dignity and independence. A son-surrogate who triggers the old man's traumas intrudes upon his life, demanding action. Then the widower is forced to figuratively or literally give up his life to protect the son-surrogate from an external threat that is also somehow connected to his trauma and regrets.
When describing how Dragon Hakus mouth would look Miyazaki learned that his animators had no idea what a dog's mouth looks like. He was flabbergasted. They went out with camcorders to record dog mouths. True story.
It'd be awesome to see them cover Ghibli's version of Princess Kaguya since there's a LOT to dig into there, but it's probably too obscure for them. :-( (Seriously, if you haven't seen it, look it up. It's easily one of the most gorgeous animated films of the last decade, surprisingly moving, and with a strong undertone of "Man, it would have *sucked* to be a noble woman in medieval Japan.")
In Princess Mononoke director show japan as very hard working industrious people, who care about elders, sick, injured, lepers but show japan as one the greediest capitalist pigs in the world who kill all other clans and kill all living plants "spirit" to smelt more iron sand. Also he shows forest spirit as beautiful and same time most wild representation, where animals kills other animals in most gruesome depiction, color saturation will give you seizures. Wild spirit of competition is basis of capitalism.

This movie scared the shit out of me as a child with the parents pig transformation like that shit fucked me up a kid I’ve been looking for this movie for so long
Can someone please confirm to me that it's the english version that makes HAKU and SHIHIROS relationship something romantic. I don't recall feeling that they had "something" going on from the spanish subs.
From what I remember, it's semi-romantic. Near the very end, Chihiro has this tearful "I love you" line, but werid because of Haku being stoic as hell. He actions to help her escape appeal he might have feeling; but it's hardly counts as romantic.
