I was an avid motor racing fan for all those years but not in the last 15 years, the magic has gone from motor sports. Thank you for all the great times and excitement you gave us.

Similarly - and sadly - Allan will never read this, but he’s entirely responsible for keeping me and my brother together following our separation by the untimely, early death of our parents. My brother (older) used to drive to where I was living to take me to the car races to see my idol, Allan, wherever he was racing in Victoria. Initially, the Mustang, then the Falcons. My brother and I still enjoy our love of car racing all these decades later - and we’re as close as any two brothers can be (him early 70’s - me mid 60’s). Thanks Allan and all the very best to you.

I first saw Allan when he was appearing on a TV game show (It was channel 0 and Bobo Faulkner was a contestant too) that was in about 1969 - I then started watching this guy and his amazing Mustang. Allan for me has always been the Champion driver and the person I always wanted to win Bathurst. I had the honour of meeting him after a Sandown meeting where he first raced that amazing Cosworth Capri. The thing that always stands out for me was how Allan always respected his sponsors (he preferred to see them as partners). He raced some of the best cars and most well turned out Falcons and Mazdas we have ever seen. I now have a small collection of models cars he raced and have them proudly displayed in my office and I am happy to bore anyone who asks about him, He and his good mate: Brocky were at the top in the golden years of Australian Motorsport. A real champion. Thank you Allan, you have enriched my life with excitement and entertainment. But, more than that you showed what it means to succeed at what you love doing.

He took the Cenovis Falcon to Bathurst and Chris Economaki interviewed him because Alan was running a carby under the bonnet instead of the fuel injection system all the other teams were running. When asked why he said the carby was $500 and the Fuel injection was $40,000. The drivers would have to work a bit harder with the carby but he was paying them to work and they could deal with it.

Allan brought professionalism to Australian Motorsport. The others used to go 'racing" at the meeting. Allan went to work. Upset a lot of misinformed people at the time but he stuck to his guns and achieved both credibility and respect amongst the motor racing fraternity. So much can be learned of his life and career - and he put in an enormous amount of focus and determination to his profession. Sad to see that horrible illness inflict itself on him. He is in good hands with Andrew, Larry and Fred Gibson keeping an eye on him. (Footnote - Allan paid for an engine for LP to take to England when Larry won the Formula Ford "Driver to Europe" series. That kindness was what the man was about)

If you can pass this on. I sold Allan newspapers as a teen at the Toorak Newsagency. He allowed me to visit his race shop. Later helped me with my cars and gave me important advice when I wanted to go club racing. As survivor of Thalidomide Allan and Jim Murcott helped me through the CAMS approval process. He gave his time freely never doubting my ability. After tuning and driving my XBGT Hardtop he said “That car is too fast for you, be careful it could bite you” I took that to heart, and it never did. At a club meet at Calder I shared the car with an able bodied racer who was in good form. I was only 2 tenths slower. Thank you Allan. Jeff from Seattle

My heart sank when I discovered this news. I am so saddened. You'll never read this, but you captured my imagination and were a true ATCC champion. I am a Ford man, and you secured my lifelong love of falcons and Mustangs. Most of all it was the true driving, skills, and ccompetitivness that really captured me. It is not like today's V8 Supercars, which is heavily biased. When you were racing Alan, that was true racing and true Ford v GM. Thank you for those memories, Alan. Just plain bloody heartbreaking, such an intelligent, driven, thoughtful man, who accomplished so very much in his life, with very few if any who would have a harsh word to say about him. A fierce competitor, always giving his best, his all in any endeavour. I keep saying this to people, the number one priority in your life is not your wife or husband, not your kids, not even your 4 legged kids, its your health. Without good health you then place burdens on others, even if they truly believe it is no burden, it is. You cannot live life on your own terms, so look after your health, the greatest good fortune you can have in life is to have good genes! Thank you Alan so very much for so many great and enjoyable times watching you race, and win!

Are you sure it was a Team Lotus Cortina GT......... Moffat could never get a factory drive until Ford Australia gave him the GTHO drive.
Moffat made his name being overlooked by the Ford Factory team in England and then buying his Cortina GT off a showroom floor and embarrassing the factory cars with 50 less HP than they had.
Ford tried to get Moffat disqualified but the scrutineers found his car to be big standard and completely untouched ...... he was just a better driver than all the British and Euro hot shots.

Now that was a farce...... McKeons Cortina was the quickest in the world and Moffat by far the quickest driver..... should have dominated in America but on the test day for Ford executives some idiot had put packing bolts for transport in the fly wheel but hadn’t told anyone.

@@Rassskle K: The event was at Calder on 24 Jan 1965 when Norm Beechey debuted his blue Neptune Racing Team Mustang, the first to race in Australia replacing his S4 EH Holden PK-751. Beechey comfortably blew off Jane's 4.2 Mk2 Jag on the back straight before retiring with overheating. Although he won, Jane retired the Jag from racing after that event and switched to a white Shell Racing Team Mustang which made it's debut at Sandown on 21 Feb 1965. More photos of Moffat's #2 Lotus Cortina at the Calder event reveal that it was RHD. It had a transfer stuck on the rear quarter that read "English FORD Line" which suggest a Canadian or US origin. The Lotus green side stripe had a thin yellow pin stripe bisecting it with the words "Team Tricon" in yellow on the green stripe at the driver's door. At a guess I would say this was a Lotus Cortina that he obtained in Canada or the States. He raced it at the Sandown event finishing behind Jim McKeon's Neptune Racing Team Lotus Cortina and ahead of Bob Jane's white Lotus and Pete Geoghegan's black Lotus. I saw it one more time painted bright red at another Sandown event. After that he raced a Mustang. I don't have photos of that car but it may have been red to distinguish it from the other Mustangs.

I don’t know the car you are talking about, but always believed the car he brought to Australia was his English Touring Car that he used to embarrass the English Ford Factory team and drivers.
It appears he left that car behind then and bought another in the US........unless the car he raced in England was actually purchased in the USA where it would have been much cheaper to buy.
The car he brought to Australia was incorrectly billed as the quickest Cortina in the world.
The car itself was basically show room standard Lotus Cortina...... Moffat was just a freak driver.
McKeons car was much quicker but Moffat was still the quicker driver.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have met Mr Moffat several times from a young kid up till recently. I’ve always addressed him as Mr Moffat or Sir.
I still remember the time i brought the model of his Le Mans Porsche, i took it straight over to have him sign it. I sat it on the counter and opened up the box. Mr Moffat stood there looking at the model with a smile, reminiscing. I took a few cars over that day including a model of his brut and coke mustangs. It was a rather special moment for myself. I had the great pleasure of meeting Allan Moffat many times and found him to been a charming professional who is friendly and helpful. Allan was one of the many drivers we sponsored with Arai Racing Helmets. I still a letter Allan wrote from the hotel in Spa where he and Peter Brock raced a VL commodore in the Spa endurance race and won. Sad to hear this news. I wish Allan all the best ❤

Allan was Ford & Ford was Allan . The Big race in the 70’s for me was all about Allan bringing the Ford home to the checkered flag . He will always be part of Ford Australia muscle car history . Legendary driver forever cemented in the history of motorsport .

I've followed Allan from his earliest Aust Touring Car battles with Bob Jane in his Camaro
Allan drove the Mustang. At the time my late Dad (same age as Allan) drove a 1956 Chev, so we has to barrack for Jane
Dads next car was 1971 XY Fairmont, so I barracked for Allan after that.
    A truly wonderful man.

I think we all have a friend or relative who suffered this terrible disease.
I remember doing a lap or 2 around Amaroo Park with Allan. He was very polite and down to earth.
He brought a level of professionalism to the sport hitherto not seen in this country. His standard of preparation and professionalism was always the highest. The cars, from the Mustang, the GTHOs, the hardtops, the Mazdas and then the Falcons again, always looked great. His overseas successes are largely overlooked, but that 1977 Bathurst 1-2 remains the most iconic finish of that race. His success rate is still the highest of any touring car driver in this country. So sad to see him like this.

Allan's an absolute legend in motor sport , he was even part of Colin Chapman's Lotus team , he introduced a new level of professionalism to Australian touring car racing , particularly with his Trans Am Mustang, I was just a little kid in those days , and now I watch the old black and white footage of those races over and over, Moffat , Brock ,Gibson , the Geoghegan,s , Jane, etc , they were great days.

Alan, you along with your motoring mates in the 70s & 80s brought me so many great memories and enjoyment.
I've owned almost all Holdens in my life but admittedly I miss my 77 XC 302 most of all.

Absolutely correct. Anyone getting sucked into donating to blood suckers to pay for cancer research deserves to be fleeced.
Plenty of autopsies show dementia is primarily caused by localised brain die off attributed to loss of blood flow in a specific area of the brain generally caused by blood clot in the brain.
Gee, I wonder where all these blood clots are coming from?
