i am working on my short, animated film and I'm currently at the stage of storyboarding, i can extremely emphasize how helpful and insightful this video is to me. Thanks very much for this
I absolutely loved this cinematic, so fluid and good to watch. Thank you for making such a detailed video like this, breaking down your process. For someone who has little idea on this, having this video as a resource is such a life saver!
This short film blew my mind when I saw it, stuff like that is what I wanna make!! I’ve been trying to make a few short films for a while but I could never actually finish them usually because I didn’t feel confident in my skills and my workflow is awful. Seeing this made me wanna get back into it again
Come on mate, I'm sure you can do it.K you have a great taste when it come to animation and framing. Make something real short, like 30 seconds, and think of everything. And if you have any questions, you know where to find me.
This is very detailed, thank you for this tutorial. The 3d storyboard is a really good idea since im not good at drawing, im saving that for the futur .
You deserve all the love you are getting Pier, I can't believe this was all done in 2 month time, when I saw the short movie for first time I literally couldn't believe the quality of animation and everything else. I have bought your Alive course and I have seen your animations but this was just absolutely amazing, Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Your skills are amazing! I'm also currently working on something kind of big (animated short) and this is just what I needed to see! After watching this I now see just how important organization is, Thx a ton!
Your videos always give me an extra boost of motivation, and I feel incredibly inspired by your workflow. You have a knack for creating amazing content, and I love it! I've learned so much from your courses. I recently checked out your latest one, and it's truly impressive. Right now, I'm a bit tight on savings lol haha, but as soon as I'm able to accumulate some savings, I'll definitely be purchasing your latest course. Keep up the fantastic work!"
That was a great breakdown. I was surprised to learn the backgrounds were done after the animation was finished. I also like the thematic colour grading you did, that's a great touch. Good advice about prioritising effects as well. All too often people got lost in details that if they weren't there wouldn't have been missed by anyone, and you can't risk losing the whole shot to take care of that.
i love all of this ive been waiting and trying to find something that could describe how to make a movie short or something like it , this is a very good description over everything how its managed linked assets and everything , more detail per step would be awesome. coming from someone who is a developer but in my spare time i love playing and using blender to use animations , like always your videos are amazing
You did such excellent work on this short! You and Shotty have done a lot to inspire me over the past couple months! The bit where Ton says something like "Why can't we do work like this" - Well, I don't want to dis on what Blender Studio does, the design and animation is often immaculate, but I do feel that a lot of the shorts are...over-produced? Feels like too many cooks in the kitchen sometimes. In your case, you were the one with the vision and had others helping in smaller scale ways which probably helped keep the movie more on track. Good work! Congrats!
Well, the thing with Blender studio is also development. The shorts are made to improve tools and workflow so they would put way more energy into details and high end production. Honestly, I didn't like Charge that much but Wing it and Sprite frite are incredible.
this film is incredible, you should be proud. thank you so much for making the breakdown! would love to hear more about how you got your look out of Eevee next :)
Thx for this excellent breakdown video, it's so interesting to see your workflow. A video talking about Compositing should be very cool ! And 2D VFX to... Congratulations for your Teaser man, it's very cool !
What do you mean by layering? Regarding the sound design, it's not Blender centric and wan't done in Blender at all. So it's a little out of topic. Sound design is made from the video edit.
Awesome work!!!!! and yes, we want to know more bout lightning and compositing!! also personally me want to see some tutorials of stylized animation like arcane and hair like this show has! thanks
Wow! This is incredible, and so inspiring! Thank you so much for continuing to make content like this! a few quick questions: is there a reason that you chose Adobe animate for the hand drawn elements, and not grease pencil? and Adobe After effects, and not the VSE? was it just a preference? Thank you again!
Regarding After effects, it's a matter of experience, I 've been using it for over aa decade and I think it's slightly faster than VSE. regarding Animate, .... it's more straight forward for this kind of VFX. GP is great but is has a big downside, you can't easily make negative shapes and this is quite terrible for 2D VFX.
Wow! Very nice! So cool to see a breakdown like this. We don't see it often enough. So do I understand correctly that really all the compositing you do in After Effects was primarily to add contrast, film grain, and a consistent color grade? This is great insight! I always thought there was more to it. Again, not a lot of info out there on this part of the process. Very very nice! I thought I was already subscribed, but your cute robot animation made me double check. Just thought I'd let you know it works. Lol.
Yes, I use to make a lott of compositing with tone of passes and in the end, you loose all lighting information and it looks like mud. With time, I lean toward getting the best out of the 3D render and just color grade my shots and add VFX.

Loving the workflow tips! QUESTION about the (3D) storyboarding, you did all the shots (exterior and interior) in one file, then 'save as' the file for each shot?
@@PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN fantastic! great seeing someone else use this workflow. I think I remember something similar to the Previs workflow for their movie "Charge". You think it would be possible to make your storyboard file available for us to look at and study? I'm sure many people, myself included, have many ideas and instead of drawing the storyboard, could use 3d. We could study what were the main poses you blocked out to get the point of the shot across. Also, I'm curious, for the Ape jumping down shot, how did you scale it all? I mean, it see you have cubes stacked (array modifier?). How did you know how many to use? Is the Ape actually moving downwards or it is a cheat by moving the cubes upward before it hits the ground? sorry for all the question 😅
Could you share your PC specs with us for This project like your graphics card and what you'd recommend for someone wanting to get the viewport feedback you're getting with their animations?
I am expecting a video on how a core blender rigger/animator can transition into game dev using unreal of unity while rigging, animating and creating environment in blender.. The process the dos and donts..may be using a sample rig created in blender and animation also in blender
I'm actually working on that and planning a full course about this. But I will very soon come with a pretty insightful series of lesson about Blender to game engine
@@PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN thank you. Do you just copy the file then rename so all assets etc are same please? I used to use all shots in one file but got slow real quick.
Is there a cheap or free alternative to After Effects for compositing? Why is that what everyone uses, what does it do that can’t be done in your animation or video editing software of choice?
Eey! Sec 0:38 its a weird frame that breaks attantion :) was that how it should be ? Just wanted to let you know, Other then that.... you are the king ! So freakin amazing stuff!!!
I had a question on how you time your animations, I follow your advice about first making the key poses first every 5 frames however when I want to start timing the animation I get a problem. When you use the action editor, moving frames around will only affect that specific rig, and if you have multiple rigs in the same scene all with animations , it becomes difficult to keep track of everything. Is there a way you go about this or should I just stop being lazy😅
boss, a question why when I export a model with a skeleton, some bones are exported incorrectly and are pointing in another direction, I create them in blender and export them to unity Thanks in advance
Because you can always cheat with the environment. And what matters is what you see. So once you figured your animation and framing, you know how much will be seen on screen. The outdoor lab was made early on and I blicked the corridor too, as it was important in the composition. But these were simple volume.
