Just read thru the comments and Ur replies! Very clear U R sincerely interested in creating good products and teaching the best U can! This kind of integrity is a magnet for SUCCESS! Congratulations on being such a HIGH QUALITY PERSON!.
U R right! Adding the gold REALLY dresses them up! I especially liked Ur rustic effect gained by using Ur fingers! It makes them especially interesting and rich looking!
I know you did this in 2015 but out of all the jewelry making videos I've seen you're the only one that did to go flex I stayed away from that wow I already had two E6000 I use it for everything thank you so much I am subscribed now and the click the Bell
I'm becoming totally addicted to your site...I make Jewellery too but you seem to have a really creative streak that doesn't follow the everyday jewellery making basics. I find that I can't wait to try things from your site and you've inspired me to try things that I would normally never have thought of. Thank you x
Omg I adore this tut! The gold really dresses it up and takes it to the next level! I'm hoping to try this with soldered pieces...apply the good over the soldered gemstone cap...the silver is nice but some stones really would sparkle with a nice gold fitting like this. Ty so much for the vid!
This looks pretty good! The only difference between this and the gold dipped seems to be that the gold dipped in more bumpy and imperfect, but I imagine you could achieve the same thing on your bead/stone by creating artificial ridges using dried super glue, then putting gold leaf over that.
I am very tempted to try your techniques, which I appreciate for your efforts and suggestions. Most of the clients I sell my crystals to would not like the added gold dipping if chemicals are used. But some people will buy them strictly for the decorative nature of the gold or silver dippings. Anyway, thank you for all of your ideas and how to make things work.
Fantastic advice. There’s silver leaf, too, so you’re not stuck with gold only. Michael’s Arts and Crafts (free plug) stores carry the E-6000 glue and the gold and silver leaf along with a multitude of inexpensive jewelry crafting supplies.
Denise, I really liked this video. Do you mind if I offer a bit of constructive criticism? The minute-long intro is awfully long & it may discourage a lot of people from watching. I would hate to have viewers skip your great tutorials.
+katiebw22 thanks for the advice. I have reduced the intros on my newer videos. I am looking into how to reduce the intros of the old videos and will update as soon as I can when I figure it out. Thanks again for your input, it's much appreciated. ;)Denise
Ok, but I like the intro. The music is hypnotic and soothing and she showcases jewelry I can now look for tutorials on If someone has seen it and doesn't want to watch it again, they can skip over it But it's up to you Denise. Do what you want but I really appreciated the opening 😃❤
Great and wonderfully explained new technique! I’ve already got a list of things from jewelry components to candlesticks! Thanks so much for the great tutorial!!
I just started making silver colored capped crystals but I have all of this gold chain I''d like to use and this was the perfect solution. Thanks so much! On my way right now to pick up the gold leaf and sealer at Hobby Lobby!
Thank you! I am starting on it tonight. I have everything I need. I ended up getting a package of gold/copper/silver leaf mix because they were out of the gold leaf. Can't wait!
This is great! Thanks so much. And, I watched a video with adding the jump ring afterwards, and thought wonder if it could be done before, as you have. Great validation!!
I really enjoyed and loved your work. I also work with my hands so I totally get it. I was saying to my self "is that how messy I look when I work lol lol". Everybody thinks that-that glue E6000 you used is the BEES KNEES, but I think it stinks. I habeen making jewelry for over 40 years now and had struggled with glues through the years. My dad use to bring home a mix epoxies from work you had to mix together to try to help me. Some mix black, brown, grey, but one use to turn light tan and I would use that in teeny tinny drops with nail polish. Sometimes crazy glue wasn't so crazy and didn't stick lol. This is what I have been using for years on everything "LOCTITE EPOXY QUICK SET MULTI-PURPOSE" I watch you struggle with that glue and silver ring on that glop of glue. With LOCTITE just push a little ball out mix together (clear of course ) put amount on then ring.....and dry. Works on all surfaces and also comes in a 5 minute one if you think your going to need more time for set up or putting pieces together plus the regular one too. Get at Amazon, Walmart, Home Depot type stores, Hardware, even Pharmacies. Great stuff!!!! I hope you give it a try. Again, thanks for your video, because I'm going to give it a try.......the one with the ring. Lovely very lovely.
A recent tutorial of your popped up for me and am I ever so happy to subscribe and learn from you. Love this one so much, as often have wondered how to get the gold dipped effect on gemstone with or without holes. Will definitely try it soon! Thanks so very much.
Hi Denise ~ I have had crystals and also 8-10 agate slices just sitting in one of my craft drawers. I purchased gold flakes at a craft store and everything has sat in the drawer for two years! Why? Because I couldn't find any instructions or a person knew anything about applying the gold. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise - the best Christmas gift I received. Thanks and have a healthy and happy 2016!!
I used 3dimentional mod podge as glue, to glue the jumping as an experiment... And it honestly works SO good, it dried like cement, I even hit it with a hammer and it didn't budge. It's really unexpectedly heavy duty and doesn't have the bad smell of e6000. You just have to wait a little bit longer to make it tacky and thick.
Thanks for the input, that's great to hear! I actually have( just bought recently) that dimensional mod podge, I bought it to make some jewelry pendants and haven't used it yet so now I'm really excited to try it out. Did you put it on before the gold leaf or after as I'm interested to know how easily the sealer and gold leaf stick to it. Thanks again for the amazing tip 😊 Denise
I did a little of both, before To make it stick and after to seal it. I'm probably gonna be using the mod podge as glue for every jewelry project now haha.
Hi Hawah, Thanks for your question, I did try paint and they look is quiet different than with the leaf. I really prefer the leaf. I believe the paint will stay, I would put a few coats on and allow the paint to dry between layers. If you want added protection you can add sealer, but I think it's less essential with the paint than it is with the leaf. I hope this helped. :) Denise
Hi Maybe you can help me, im searching for a green crystal. I want to make a neckleses whit a crystal who looks like the sims 3 crystal (or just the collor it can also looks like yours but whit This green collor!) i searcht every where in the Internet but the realy good ones are way to extensiv and the others are just look horrible and i don't think i can find them in a Shop here in germany so maybe you now wehere i can find them ^-^ (sorry if something is wrong)
Fire Shine Hi fire shine I noticed your comment and immediately thought of the titanium coated crystals from china that are sold on ebay ( I was looking at them 30 seconds ago XD) . sonsearch ebay for "green aura quartz" or green aura crystal, you might find what you are looking for there. Good luck :)
The gold has 100 purity and stick to itself when layered because of the molecules are attracted to each other called cohesion. And the purity can be increased if heated on a clean smoke free flame just before applying. So that's why to keep it pure even from skin oils etc it's preferable to apply with a clean brush or instrument. Then compacted with a metal instrument with a rough toothy surface to make it stick. Then when you have enough layers or thickness. It can be smoothed using a smooth surfaced instrument like a burnisher
Cool I have a bunch of these sitting around now I know what to do with some of them. FYI I purchased my E6000 at Walmart and have seen it also at a couple home improvement stores.
*also* if you want to give your work a nice clean straight edge to the golden cap remember you can use tape by wrapping the piece around first then plating up to it's edge. After you're done, take off the tape and it will have a nice fine line and extrusion around the rim of the gold plating
Hi Jenn, Thanks for your question. I researched several glues and tried a few different types, hot glue, bead glue and a few others and decided to trust the suggested e6000 glue. As well as crafts, that glue is used for gluing car parts on, etc. But even so I'm always wary when it's just glue holding a jumping, so I glued the jumping on, let it dry for at least 24 hours then applied the gold leaf right over it, with several coats of sealer, finally I added a little bead glue to have extra security. I've been wearing my pendant around and so far it's holding up. But as I said if anyone knows of a better glue I'm all ears. The crystal pendant that I purchased had a jumping glued on so it is done in a profession scene too, but if you really want 100% security then a screw hook drilled into the crystal may be what you need. Having said that I believe that if your crystal isn't exceptionally heavy then the glue should work perfectly fine. If you plan on selling these or giving them as gifts I would suggest that you do what I used to do when I had my jewelry business, wear a piece every day and when you do, any issues with the design holding up will show up and then you can correct them. I hope this is helpful :) Denise
Goop is pretty good glue and not as smelly as E6000 *I use both, depending on time of year, what I am doing, what I happen to have on hand, ventilation....)
Excellent tutorial, thanks for this. I didn't catch which type of sealer you used to stick the foil onto the agate pendant. Can you tell me what type it is please.
Sue Shade Hi Sue, Thanks for your question. The full list of supplies is in the drop down menu as well as the links, I used Mona Lisa's sealer by www.speedballart.com/our-products.php?cat=18 I hope this is helpful :) Denise
+Jon Azure you can usually buy it at Walmart, a craft store or Michaels if you're in North America. Here's a link if you're outside of North America if you're interested.www.beadaholique.com/mod-podge-gloss-all-in-one-decoupage-sealer-glue-finish-8-fl-oz.html I used Mona Lisa sealer but I've heard that mod podge will do a great job too. Hope this helps.😊
BEAUTIFUL.................. as an 'older' lol woman.....I'll go for the 'glue' ...Some of my friends make ... outdoor glass....bird baths' ... etc... :)
Hi Denise, thank you for this AWESOME tutorial. Question for you: do you have any recommendations for securing larger rocks to jump rings? I.e., how large is too large? I want to give my necklaces the longest possible life possible. Thanks again!
+Gowri Chandra to get the best life out of the necklace, the lighter the stone the better. All the stones I used were variable sizes but were fairly light, probably the weight of a large grape or a full walnut in the shell. Unfortunately the heavier you go the more chance you have that it may not last. If you plan on making them as gifts or for sale, I would make a few for yourself and wear it/them all the time to check durability, that was something I used to do with jewelry pieces I sold in my store, to ensure integrity.Hope this helps ;) Denise
I watched the whole tutorial, which I found to be pretty awesome!!! I totally loved it.. Only thing is I still don't know, at the beginning how you made the loop for the chain to go into the hole. and then the wrap looked so easy.. Any way I loved everything. Do you think you can explain it, in detail please
what an amazing video!!! you are truly talented. thank you so much for your explanations. the only thing i can confirm is E6000 I use it on everything and its never let me down. im subscribing to your channel and i wish you continued success in the future. be blessed.
i've seen crystal jewelry with no drill hole before and wondered how they did it. i think the person said they used crush pyrite on top. but they wouldn't share their method. i'm thinking maybe they used something like the e6000 and mixed it with some crushed pyrite, then topped the crystal with that? then stuck the jump ring in. have you seen that before?
Mallory Salay Hi Mallory, I do have some gold-dipped crystals that I bought a few years back, and for sure some of the ones that I have use glue because you can see it at the top with the jumpring. I'm sure it's been electroplated. They probably apply a layer of nickel or copper(maybe pyrite like you mentioned) to the places where they want the gold to stick then plate the whole thing. The gold plate won't stick to the crystal, only the metal parts. I used to work with a company that plated for me and sometimes I had silver jewelry with crystals in the design that I wanted gold-plated and it never ruined the crystal and only stuck to the metal or wire parts. There is a lot of heat applied through the process and it's not something that I would not want to attempt at home unless you want to start your own business. My process is what I could achieve at home on a minimal budget. ;) Thanks for your comment, Denise
Hi Denise, How well does the gold leaf hold up in water/sun? For example if i were to make this and go swimming with the necklace on, would the gold leaf tarnish/break off? Thank you!
It actually holds up quite well as long as you allow it to dry really well before putting it in water etc, I would give it 1-2 weeks based on how humid the environment is, this will give you maximum protection and extra sealer can also help. And it doesn’t tarnish at all.
Hi ! Your neck lance is Georgous! I wonder if u can recommend me some source to purchase crystals cos I cannot find one. Do u shop for them online? Thxx
Hi, and thanks for your comment. I found my gemstones in a local new age store many years ago but I know etsy.com have sellers who sell raw gemstone crystals, also a subscriber suggested this eBay seller stores.ebay.com/Mininggems, just to be clear I haven't ordered from this seller and am only suggesting based on the subscribers info. Hope this helps, 😊 Denise
+Denise Mathew Thanks for answering my question. Frankly, that's the first time people give me reply on my comment so I really appreciate it. I'll try esty then thxxxx
Are you having trouble with e6000 ? It comes in two parts and you're supposed to mix small amounts of the two parts together or the glue won't work. E6000 is supposed to be the best. I used super glue to glue a stone onto a pendant, I had the pendant for 17 years then lost it. The stone never came off, so super glue probably lasts at least 20 years. E6000 probably lasts at least 50 years if you know how to use it correctly. There are some videos on you tube on glue.
+Hollidae Perigan you only need pliers if you're using a stone with a hole, if you are buying pliers just for this project multi tool pliers are ideal. I used a pair of those type pliers for years to make jewelry and they worked well, the only part that isn't great is the wire cutter part, so if you're doing more projects that would be worth buying. Here's a link to show you what I mean www.artbeads.com/tool-121.html you don't have to buy them there, I've seen them as Walmart and Michaels. Hope this helps. 😊
Thanks for the great demo Denise I am an artist who works with a lot of gold leaf is yours in square sheets? After I apply to paper with gesso under neath then I shine it with the back of a spoon is this the same kind of gold leaf?thanks Josephine
+Josephine Mula yes it sounds like it's the same. I've never heard of shining it with a spoon though, I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for the tip 😊
I always buy my crystals predrilled, but you don’t need to have a hole in the stone to do this technique but if you’re interested in drilling stones for other projects I’ve added a few links in the drop down menu below the video. I’m no expert so don’t take my word for it, check out what feel right for you. 😊 hope this helps.
What is the use of a powerful crystal if it has saturated or come to contact with chemicals and toxic substances? Do you know that they are alive and should not be treated as a piece of plastic?
That's what I was going to say... this seems counterproductive to the true nature and need for crystal healing If you hurt the crystal how can you expect the healing properties.
@@MamaJas88 All of the crystals I have ever wrapped are sold to people who love/believe in their healing nature. A true challenge is wrapping them without the aid of chemicals. I found a way to do it, but it is time consuming and takes much creative energy. My hands are not as strong as they used to be, yet the wrapping does require precision and strength. I would love to use the glue to "set" a loop in place, but I could not honestly sell the crystals as pure then.
Hi Denise, just wondering if you purchased the Amethyst on EBay? I sold one similar to that one, but mine was not gold-dipped. It was electroformed, with a base of copper, nickle and then 24 kt gold. It might be why it looks different.
I bought the crystals in the tutorial at a new age shop but I did buy a gold dipped crystal from ebay several years ago, it's in this video ruclips.net/video/0zPMKKZ8kTA/видео.html .if you want to see it-if it's one of yours . Do you have a store now if so I can put up a link because people are often asking about where to buy crystals.
+Heather Daylene Ayers it's quite sturdy but for added strength you can add a few extra coats of sealer and allow it to dry for 24-48 hours before wearing it, the longer you leave it to dry the better. You can also add a coat of clear nail polish over the sealer after everything is dry for even more protection. Hope this helps 😊
+Yasuko J yes you can use silver leaf as well, it comes in both gold and silver. I'm not sure about the powder that you're talking about, is it mica powder, or glitter? I've tried gold leaf paint before and didn't like it but have not tried any type of gold powder. You can use whatever works for you but I really do like the leaf because it wears well, gives great coverage with a smooth finish and is quite easy to apply and seal. Hope this helps 😊
rose ordosgoitia Hi Rose, I think that modpodge would probably work well, I'm not sure about durability as I haven't used it but as a sealer it should be okay. I hope this is helpful and good luck on your projects ;) Denise
+Susan T it's Mona Lisa sealer. Some people have tried mod podge too so you could give it a shot. All the supplies are listed in the drop down menu. How's this helps.😊
It helps because it’s quite hard and is almost like a glue itself, and it also gives the gold sheet a nice polish. My crystals have stood up well and I like to add a few coats, just let it dry between coats to get the best results.

I love this!
Too Cool!!!!! Where do I get the sealer that you put on the stone so the gold leaf will stick to it?
+Jon Azure you can usually buy it at Walmart, a craft store or Michaels if you're in North America. Here's a link if you're outside of North America if you're interested.www.beadaholique.com/mod-podge-gloss-all-in-one-decoupage-sealer-glue-finish-8-fl-oz.html I used Mona Lisa sealer but I've heard that mod podge will do a great job too. Hope this helps.😊
AWESOME TUTORIAL!!! TFS luv! ♥
BEAUTIFUL.................. as an 'older' lol woman.....I'll go for the 'glue' ...Some of my friends make ... outdoor glass....bird baths' ... etc... :)
+Josephine Tyree ...
is that real gold. nice idea looks beautiful
UV resin is what I use to attach bails or jump rings.. my secret!
Hey hun I use epoxy glue works every time
Thank you for the tip.😊
thanks!
+Hollidae Perigan you're welcome.
what an amazing video!!! you are truly talented. thank you so much for your explanations. the only thing i can confirm is E6000 I use it on everything and its never let me down. im subscribing to your channel and i wish you continued success in the future. be blessed.
i've seen crystal jewelry with no drill hole before and wondered how they did it. i think the person said they used crush pyrite on top. but they wouldn't share their method. i'm thinking maybe they used something like the e6000 and mixed it with some crushed pyrite, then topped the crystal with that? then stuck the jump ring in. have you seen that before?
Have you tried jewellers cement to hold the jump ring in? Not as messy as the e6000, but can't say which would be stronger as never used the e6000
Hi Denise,
How well does the gold leaf hold up in water/sun? For example if i were to make this and go swimming with the necklace on, would the gold leaf tarnish/break off? Thank you!
It actually holds up quite well as long as you allow it to dry really well before putting it in water etc, I would give it 1-2 weeks based on how humid the environment is, this will give you maximum protection and extra sealer can also help. And it doesn’t tarnish at all.
I have used E6000 for longer than I can remember it's very good glue
I have subscribed but as far as I know you haven’t once mentioned what the sealer is
Interesting. Thanks. How about gold nail polish as well???
+Brenda Jordan I'm not sure about using that I haven't used it but definitely give a try, I'd love to hear how it works out. 😊
+Denise Mathew
Thanks for answering my question. Frankly, that's the first time people give me reply on my comment so I really appreciate it. I'll try esty then thxxxx
+Yo Uniqca :)
excellent 😀😁😀😀😀😀👌👌👌👌👌👌👌💜
Are you having trouble
with e6000 ? It comes
in two parts and you're
supposed to mix small
amounts of the two
parts together or the glue
won't work. E6000 is
supposed to be the best.
I used super glue to glue
a stone onto a pendant,
I had the pendant for 17
years then lost it. The
stone never came off,
so super glue probably
lasts at least 20 years.
E6000 probably lasts
at least 50 years if you
know how to use it
correctly. There are some
videos on you tube on
glue.
What a great idea ! I've tried leafing jewelry before but I really love the look with these pendants! Will share on my blog (The Beading Gem).
The Beading Gem thanks so much, I really appreciate your comment and the shares ;) Denise
thank you +Denise Mathew. also, what would be the best pliers for this? I noticed some don't make the wire work doable
After I apply to paper with gesso under neath then I shine it with the back of a spoon is this the same kind of gold leaf?thanks
Josephine
+Josephine Mula yes it sounds like it's the same. I've never heard of shining it with a spoon though, I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for the tip 😊
Your idea is really cool. I would use hot glue gun instead of ordinary glue. It's easier and you can do some patterns on the cristal. :D
Nice!
Lindos pendientes
Hey woman...WHERE ARE YOU ??? Hi Denise,I hope you and your family are all well and safe in these crazy times. Miss seeing you. Take good care.
💎
Thanks so much for putting out this vid. How do u drill the holes?
I always buy my crystals predrilled, but you don’t need to have a hole in the stone to do this technique but if you’re interested in drilling stones for other projects I’ve added a few links in the drop down menu below the video. I’m no expert so don’t take my word for it, check out what feel right for you. 😊 hope this helps.
Denise Mathew thanks so much. I had just found out about the hand drill. Looks really simple to use
Hi can you tell me and show us how you make hole in gemstones pls..
Check the drop down menu under the video for some links to people who might be able to help you 😊
What is the use of a powerful crystal if it has saturated or come to contact with chemicals and toxic substances? Do you know that they are alive and should not be treated as a piece of plastic?
wut
Yes. They are alive but I don't think this really diminishes their power. The gold leafing is for jewelry wear, not necessarily for healing.
For how much you think i can sell it after is done?
Denise Mathew yes plz~! I want to open a online crystal shop, but not sure where to source good and genuine crystals..
what kind of sealer is this? I'm purchasing some now: ) can't wait to try
+Hollidae Perigan its Mona Lisa sealer by speedball art, have fun 😊
How sturdy/delicate is the gold leaf once you have added the sealer?
+Heather Daylene Ayers it's quite sturdy but for added strength you can add a few extra coats of sealer and allow it to dry for 24-48 hours before wearing it, the longer you leave it to dry the better. You can also add a coat of clear nail polish over the sealer after everything is dry for even more protection. Hope this helps 😊
Thank you Denise!
Hi 🙋🏻♀️ Do you drill the crystals yourself?
No I don't 😊
Thank you for sharing this!
How about powder instead of flake? Is this possible with Silver too?
Thank you!
Thank you Denise!! It helps a lot :)
Can you use modpodge as a sealant?
rose ordosgoitia Hi Rose,
I think that modpodge would probably work well, I'm not sure about durability as I haven't used it but as a sealer it should be okay. I hope this is helpful and good luck on your projects ;) Denise
Hi there. I really like this video. Is the white stuff you used flux?
No, it’s a sealer, very much like glue. Flux is used for soldering and there’s no soldering in this project. Hope this helps 😊
What kind of sealer d you use before and after applying the gold leaf? I didn't recognize the bottle....Is it like Mod Podge? Thanks soo much
+Susan T it's Mona Lisa sealer. Some people have tried mod podge too so you could give it a shot. All the supplies are listed in the drop down menu. How's this helps.😊
Thanks
cool
So with the amyethist, does the sealer also supplement a holding effect for the jump ring along with the glue?
It helps because it’s quite hard and is almost like a glue itself, and it also gives the gold sheet a nice polish. My crystals have stood up well and I like to add a few coats, just let it dry between coats to get the best results.
Denise Mathew awesome thanks
