I just use what comes with my iron. Be careful not to burn them out, don't leave them on the highest setting just sitting if you are not using it, try to work at the lowest setting you can. You can get good irons and tips from a stained glass supplier, those made for stained glass, from amazon, or some from electronics catalogs, but those are usually too small to do the job since they are meant for electronics repair.
This technique is from my first book, Boho Chic Jewelry: 25 Timess Designs Using Soldering, Beading, Wire Wrapping and More (published in 2013, Penguin Random House)
Thank you very much for sharing this video. Its very clear and informative. Can u pls tell what kind of solderiron u use. Is there a temperature controll unit or normal iron???
hi laura! great video? could you let me know what jump rings you use? i think i have the wrong ones because i can’t get my jump rings so solder to the pendant. i’ve been shaping the solder into a loop for the time being but i’d like to be able to use jump rings
I am a beginner and this video was perfect for me. ,and could you tell me please about the name of the red one that you used it for shaping the solder ?
This is so cool. Do you know of any brands that do copper coloured solder suitable for an iron (rather than a blow torch)? I like how the copper looks so much. I’ve looked and can’t find the right search terms so any help appreciated
Hi, So I was trying to solder a jumping ring to one Betsey Johnson pendant cause it broke off. The numping ring didn’t stick to it… no matter what I did. Do you might know why? Thank you!!
Hola seria posibles q estos videos y lo q hablas permitan la opción en español. Yo te entendí un poco pq se de trabajos con falso vitrales q se hacen con esas laminilas de cobre pero mucho no entendí pq no hablo ingles
Hi, I'm new to soldering pendants (Crystal&plates) I was wondering if you you could help me with something. I was using this video and I was able to complete 1/2 of my soldering and then my soldering iron wouldn't pick up the solder anymore, it started to create little balls that rolled off then didn't produce anything else. I was soldering at 450 degree Celsius. Any idea why this was happening and how I can fix it? I feel like I may have ruined my irons tip but I don't know. Thanks!
It could be one of a number of reasons, I go into that in detail in my newest book Soldering Iron Jewelry , which you may find very helpful. Good luck! www.amazon.com/shop/laurabethlove/list/31QO19DFHTJZC?tag=onamzdishfund-20&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d
Hey and thank you so much!! I wonder what kind of silver solder thread you use?! Is it hard, half hard or vekt?! Does it work the same way with gold solder thread? Thank you ❤️
Laura I’ve followed your RUclips videos and made the leap to soft soldering. I’m still pretty rough at it. Is there a chance I can send you a px of my last piece to get your suggestions and critique? If this is asking too much please just say so. I love your books and videos! Thanks
I really appreciate your videos. I found a soldering iron in the garage i didnt know i had so now i can move foreward in trying this. I have some crstals, glass cabs, sea shells and old silverware and im hoping to raise some money for a fence for my cats. Your straight foreward instruction is very clear for my dyslexic brain and its super appreciated, so, thank you!!!
Hi dear as you are the initiator of this beautiful soft soldering technique i learn all from your book and I'm grateful. Wanted to ask how to classify this solder. I know it's tin and silver. But when a customer asked if it's plated silver or 925 silver I don't know how to correctly describe. Is it a metal mix?
You should describe it as it is written on the label on the package of exactly what you are using; not all brands are alike. It's definitley not plated silver or 925 silver!
Great video! I think I can do this~ thank you! Can you please give suggestions of where to find vulcanized rubber stamps? Also does the copper sheet have adhesive backing? What is the best gauge for this kind of work? And where can we find copper sheets? I know, lots of questions, but I'm new to this kind of project and love your work! Thank you fo sharing so much with us!
J’ai regarder, elle ne donne pas les bonnes informations impossible de trouver avec les liens qu’elle propose, beaucoup de personnes lui posent cette question et sa réponse et tes flou où plutôt inutile, moi elle ne m’as jamais répondu 😏
My newest book, The Broken China Jewelry Book, will be available on Amazon in late July/early August! Be sure to get your copy! tinyurl.com/4ffrm4ys

So cool! Do earrings. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Where can I find good high temperature solder tips

Your work is much neater than another RUclipsr who does the same thing. Her work comes out rough and globby sometimes.
I'm a pro :)
Very clever, nice job.
Thank you so much! I'm just starting out in silver jewelry making, so this is GREATLY appreciated! 😊
what is the copper used for?
You cannot solder stone without copper, it is the base for the solder.
I'm curious if this works with more irregular and rough surfaces, and what would it take to do a bronze/brass color to mimic gold.
As for the surfaces you would have to try it out. You can add a copper patina or use paints for a finish.
Thank you very much for sharing this video. Its very clear and informative. Can u pls tell what kind of solderiron u use. Is there a temperature controll unit or normal iron???
I have many different irons! My recommendations are here: www.amazon.com/shop/laurabethlove

Maybe you are using something that is not compatible with solder. Try copper or silver plated
Hi,I loved your video! Where can I buy that stamps?
Thanks, check the description below the video or on eBay, they have to be vulcanized rubber stamps.
I am a beginner and this video was perfect for me. ,and could you tell me please about the name of the red one that you used it for shaping the solder ?
You must use a vulcanized red rubber stamp so that it does not melt. Find some here: www.amazon.com/shop/laurabethlove
Thank you, Miss . Do you happen to have TikTok?
Yes I do
What metal did you use for the bail, the twisted ring towards the end?
You can use silver, sterling, plated, copper...
Does anyone know where to get gold solder?
Solder only comes in silver but you can add color to it by adding a patina
I most def learned something. Love this.

Hi, There is no such thing, but you can use a copper patina to turn silver solder copper colored. Watch my video copper bezel making and I show how.

So pretty, and a great way to turn all of my polished stones into beautiful jewelry!
Hi,
So I was trying to solder a jumping ring to one Betsey Johnson pendant cause it broke off. The numping ring didn’t stick to it… no matter what I did. Do you might know why? Thank you!!
Probably the material was not compatible with solder.

Is it safe to rinse pantina down the sink?
I would wipe it up with a paper towel and throw that away with your regular trash.
Where do you get your foil from?
Amazon

Is there a need for sealant? Will this tarnish over time?
No, it's fine as is
Those putty erasers work wonders to hold small stones in place, i used some when polishing a small one to add a sort of peg
Link to where you purchas twisted bails.

I'm intrigued by the idea of low temperature soldering. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 👐
Thanks for watching! I have a beginner low temp soldering book coming out in the near future so you might want to check that out!

Very cool, mahalo!
Does the edge of the foil have burs, or a roughness? If so, do you recommend filing or sanding?
If stamped correctly there should not be any burs or roughness - you can file rough edges with an acrylic file if needed.
So where n how much is the solderingbiron an tha flux and the wire I need to get this cuz I’m ready to do this
In the description below the video
Love watching your channel ❤️
Thank you for sharing, I'm so inspired to get my soldering iron out of storage .
You should do that! Thanks for watching!
Will the copper tape make the solder turn green or seep green from underneath
No
Hello! Doesn't the weld risk breaking?
Not if it is soldered correctly, no
Love it. Thank you
very clever
I love yr work it opens up so much possibility ❤
Thank you!
so awesome
Lovely! Is there any chance of stone getting loose in the future?
Not if you do it right! Also don’t make it extremely heavy and you will be fine. Thanks for watching!
