I was not at all successfully doing anything until I purchased this hakko soldering iron! Now that I have it things are flowing like smooth butter, so now I needed to learn techniques. I was trying to do what I thought you were doing- wiping iron off on the wet sponge then dipping it in flux? It did really clean off iron - almost to good. I re-tin more than I think should. Areas of interest to me at this time are how to attach a bail seamlessly, stamp hot solder with red rubber stamps to imprint a design, layering up solder and creating texture with the solder, and how to encase a gemstone in copper tape and attaching it to frame of a larger pendant. Anything you decide to teach I am quite confident you will teach expertly and I’m looking forward to whatever you determine to teach. Thanks!
I also like how she uses everyday items such as qtips, pledge and i think window cleaner. I really hope she does jewelry vids. I begun buying some of the items like a soldering gun and a blue heat mat for working on , i never so much as held a soldrting gun kit with adjustable heat, yet but i hope to learn to make jewelry and not stained glass. I'm also legally blind so this should be an interesting challenge 😊

@@LeslieBurkhammer there is stress in soldering. But there doesn't need to be! Just breathe play calm music, Go slow when you solder you'll get a better line of solder. It's not a race it's just the last leg of your project and one that really makes it a show piece of the soldering is done right. 😊☺️ and watch a how to solder video.

I have a huge studio and the flux I use doesn't smoke, and my iron is regulated so as to not burn off old oxidation from other materials. I hope I answered your questions. ☺️

Hi Julie just joined yr channel ive been doing leadlight & stained glass art for 2 years, thats the first time anyone has explain the flux brush, now i know why some of my joins have come apart, Thankyou 😊and please make yr wire work dvd, did that work have you made it yet 🤣🤣 Thankyou for sharing yr knowledge
I've been a teacher for many years and had a lot of students take refresher SG class, and the first thing that hit the trash can was the FLUX BRUSH! The one thing I noticed that when the Cooper foil looks more like dirty gold that solder doesn't want to adhere to it. Fix that by putting your foil in a air tight Ziploc, or going swimming in a pool of flux to try to get your foil to take the solder. Thank you for watching ❣️

You can use anything, I just have had great success with this. I also wash some items with blue dawn dish soap. Invisalign glass I buy it at farm and fleet or Menards or Amazon. Thanks for asking
Hi Julie, Thank you so very much for doing this tutorial!! Some questions...I've been told to never use a sponge with the Hakko because it doesn't need it. Do you find that's not true?? Also was told not to use steel wool because it could leave fibers behind that could rust. What are your thoughts?? Thanks again for the great video!!
Im a creature of habit and I still use my sponge and I have had the same iron for 6 years, never had a problem, but I also don't run my iron on MEGA HIGH! I run mine at 310° to 360° Ive used 0000 steel wool since 1993, it will give you the best black line ever, or any color patina for that fact. The trick to the steel wool is to make sure your pice is dry then rub the lines brush off any particles left over ( you could wash off if you wish ) Then patina. I hope I answered your questions 😀

I use a torch and silver solder and you can’t do that. Does the solder contain nickel? It is illegal to see lol Nickel jewellery here in the UK and in the EU.
Suggestion, if you are making creative ideas and videos, put the art closer to the camera or mounting above , front angle. And your thumbnail be of a finished piece. So ppl will want to click on your video's to learn how to.... make the item in thumbnail. I'm creative like you, but i also have photography in my background as well... along with theater, cosmetology, costumes and floral of all kinds. But i can do most anything i put my mind to. I'm sorry but when I did this video I was having a hard time finding my words. Between PTSD, fibromyalgia, and COVID brain fog, I do forget my words, sorry. I was on the spot to think of a word and molten and cooling wasn't in my arsenal of words that day.
I use 60/40 Eagle brand solder. I buy my pre-tined copper wire From (Warner Glass) or (Amazon) 16 gauge and 14 gauge I use these two the most offen. I hope I answered your question.
29 years of SG AND decorative soldering and none of the issues you've brought up has Never happened to me! If you watched the video you'd see that I clean my work constantly, and as for the flux I never had an issue there either. Maybe you just learned from the wrong artist. 😩 UGH

No nickel but there is lead in the 60/40 mix of solder. You cant use the 60/40 lead in jewelry, is all.

Add more solder to your tip.
Just string the handle of the cup and then you can use it for hot drinks.
Solder isn't paint, therefore it technically doesn't dry. It cools then hardens as from its molten state.

Solder cools it doesn't dry! Never double dip in your flux. You are making it weaker. Clean off your steel wool after using it. Leaves rust spots ugh
