When I was a child living in a small Colorado mountain town, my Mom worked for Mountain Bell. When the linemen would work in the office on the switches, they would leave copper wire snippings on the floor which I loved to turn in to jewelry. A bit more rudimentary than this though. Ha.
Not sure how many folks remember "Ma" Bell, but my father was one of those techs. I always had plenty of cable, wire and so many other interesting things to keep my imagination and ingenuity occupied. I think my Dad really knew a thing or two about raising children properly.
Nickel or gold electroplating would have taken this nice ring over the top, it would present better and not cause the finger to turn green. It would be great to see you do that and show us the results.
A fabulous ring! Makes me want to attempt to make one for my extra large fingers (Z +3). I think I’ll price up the equipment, as the supply of copper wire isn’t a problem, as my son is an electrician.
Nice work, as the others mentioned it's not always about working with gold and diamonds....I have a question what do you use for soldering the ends please?
very well shown. if i can ask how do you tell when the brass needs to be heated to soften enough again and did you use polishing paste with the wheels . i hope to recreate that as when watching again the weave is easy to follow 10/10
we got a roll of copper wire and when i started making jewelry i had no idea that it was different, at least the copper i my husband got, after making a couple things i noticed the copper was of bad quality! it got real dark and almost rusty? im assuming you would probably know what to get but im i correct that not all copper is created equal? lol
@@nedjewelryworkshop I understand that but it's like I can look at peices of copper and can tell if it's the stuff I bought or the stuff I had? IDK but thank you !!😉
So with it being a more aesthetic piece like copper, it may be worth the sacrifice to either nickle, gold, or silver plate it. I think the goal is to avoid alot of moisture. If you get an answer let me know.
It’s called annealing - heating the copper with a torch and slow cooling softens the copper. The process can be repeated. This allows the material to be worked more easily. He then quenches the ring to harden it.
i would have joined the ends a little different, would have made a great way to add a stone to the ring, and the stone helps to hide the joint as well... but still awesome..

As an electrician and a metalworker , I must say I like that ,
That is a gorgeous ring. thank you for the tutorial.

Great idea. I loved jewelry class in high school.
Brass and copper mixed is nice, also gold and silver, 😊

So beautiful! I just got a polishing wheel but I have no idea what I’m doing. Will you share what pads you used?
You should buy jewelry polishing felt and polish

I use silver solder
That is outstanding! Beautiful! May I ask what could one coat this in to prevent turning? Thank you skilled sir!
You should gold plate it or apply varnish or clear nail polish on top
Such talent and skill. 👍👍
Very beautiful idea! 👍

When the metal hardens, annealing is done to soften it. The polish I use is jeweler's polishing polish.
Really cool and beautiful ❤.
W@W!!! Love This!!! Thank🤗You!!👍👍🙋🏻♀️
nice work and thanks for giving me ideas🙂
Tis vid came recommend to be after i made a copper ring of my own, but it was thicker gauge house wire
VERY Good.
Damn fine work! What kind of solder did you use?

Nothing like your finger turning green! Yay!
You are right, you can use any metal you want.
@@nedjewelryworkshop Classy design, excellent craftmanship.
Good name for a song ... Green Finger ... 😁
Just paint the inside with clear nail polish to prevent green finger
Nice ❤❤❤
Won't copper turn your finger green?
Unlike gold copper turns your finger green. Same thing with clad coin rings
How do you avoid oxidation?
Oxidation in copper cannot be prevented.
Coating is required
@@nedjewelryworkshop well that's right, so i must ask what do you use for coating it?
Bonjour, très beau travail ! ✨ A 6min 50, quel est le produit que vous mettez au pinceau svp? Merci d'avance.
Merci, le borax liquide utilisé en bijouterie pour nettoyer le métal avant soudure

Is there a way to keep the ring from turning your finger green? I make coin rings and just the small amount of copper in them turn my finger green.
Unfortunately, all copper will stain your finger green.
Verdigris is poisonois..
So maybe its not whise to wear it on the hand..
Ну на троечку ! Можно было и поусерднее. Я бы ещё сделал грани по торцам.Смотрелось бы лучше.
This is a lovely video, but how does one dispose of the torch before a hobbit brings the ring back to it? Asking for a friend.
I couldn't understand your question
Is it a special kind of soldering wire you use or bog standard? Apologies for my ignorance and thank you for the inspiration! :)
Source of silver
Thank you!! 😊
Love it !
copper turns the skin green
What kind of solder do you use for that?
Silver solder
1:07 Do you mind telling us how twisted curly copper wires suddenly become straight?
You did something, is it a secret?
it takes a little time and patience but i usually just use a small hammer to tap them straight
@@ColtonJohnson-yj6yr Just wondering what you did. Pulling them real tight will straighten them as well.
Yes, I fixed it with pliers. Otherwise, the video would be too long.
