I had the same issue on my pontoon I recently purchased it would hardly work and when it did it was claiming 4k at idle. So I carefully popped it apart around the bezel and decided to check the resistance of the two smd electrolytic caps which were really low, I pulled off the two smd capacitors, tested them on my DTU-1701 and they were nowhere near spec. So I replaced them, since I had some brand new ones in my stock for repairing equipment. I cleaned the glass and used some extra ca speaker glue and activator I had from a headphone modification to glue it all back together. I did have to readjust the pot but now it works perfectly. I did test the other components and even the resistors before reassembling, but a whole 25 cent investment "rough cost for both" I originally made for some smd capacitors for another project "MacMini repair" saved me well over $50 for a replacement tach!
Sounds like ground gremlins to me. When that many gauges and sensors "fail" at the same, ground connections are a great place to start. You improved the ground connections on the fuel level senders and new guages just by replacing them, they probably aren't perfect, but good enough to work for a bit... they'll likely "fail" again next spring. Hook your scope up to the tach wires under the dash, then you might see some variances in the wave that you didn't see at the engine. And consider buying a true rms multimeter with Hz, it will save you a lot of trouble carrying the scope around with extension cords and shading it for the simplier diagnostic tasks. I like the Southwire 22070T, as good as a fluke but much cheaper, I got mine at Lowes. I appreciate you posting this video and I'll give you some constructive criticism whether you want it or not... cut the chit chat. The only thing worse than an intro on a youtube video, is a 6 minute off topic thing about "how we got here." We know how we got here, we searched for outboard tachometer. We don't know anything about your bees, and don't care. If you think I'm being to harsh, think about the videos that YOU find useful, and emulate them... Get to the point son, and stick with it... and if you do find yourself in a rant, you can take it out in editing... in case you haven't noticed, I talk a lot too.
