Story 9: I saw lots of comments on the thread saying that OP was TA and I just have one thing to say to that... how? "Only wives or close female relatives should touch a man's hair." BS. Girls can touch each other's hair whenever they want but if a woman innocently braids a man's hair suddenly it's too sexual? Y'all need to touch grass.
I’m just about to have a total hip replacement surgery, I’ve told my husband he might as well go to work because he can’t do anything to help and I’ll need him more after I’m released for hospital, so I understand ops point of view completely. Specially as it’s a new job.
Story 14: I just couldn’t believe they alllowed their 13 year old child to tell them to shut up and then still let him go hang out with his friends. Are you kidding me?
Story 11: NTA - she only told the family the truth. I’m glad she’s finally realized how one-sided her relationship with her brother is. He can’t complain about people knowing he chose a dog over his sister.
Story 3: as much as I understand the desire for the husband's to be there, I also get the fact that it is a new job and he is most likely the primary breadwinner and does need to take that into account when calling off in any capacity. NTA
Yeah, like I get the need for emotional support, but the possible alternative if “Don’t worry honey, I’m here for you. BTW, we have no income because I just got fired for straying here.”
Story 1: Piper is very, very hurt, and I don't blame her. You just don't go and marry someone so that the person they bullied and destroyed something personal and valuable to someone can become sisters. Piper's emotions are not even being considered here.
Story 2: NTA for not falling for bait 'n' switch scam. Story 8: Winced at calling bullying a "prank". Then winced harder at "boys will be boys". Then winced even harder at "good genes" remark. MASSIVE NTA to OP. Story 13 (incorrect timestamp BTW): OP is basically punishing 14 y/o for not being social butterfly. Big YTA.
Story 3: If he just started the job, OP could easily be fired for missing work. How would you pay that hospital bill without a job? Wife needs to be more understanding that the timing was terrible. She wasn't abandoned and she wasn't all alone. NTA
Story 5: The friend sounds like a bad person. Sound like they were an intentional homewrecker before they forced the current guy to propose. She seems jealous of/competitive with OP. They should just cut her off.
The last one really got me mad. How is the daughter still going to her dance and the son can't. He ruined a dress and the daughter is racist AF. I can see that OP has a favorite child and it's the daughter. She is not going to learn to respect people if you continue to kiss her entiled racist ass. She should not be going to the dance either. Both kids should have the same punishment
jfc this got messy. Empathy is hard, but not impossible to teach. What is impossible is knowing that you got through to someone, and in what way. Neither kid should be going to the dance, and all the boys’ parents who let their kid over that night should know that their child was at least peripherally involved in the destruction of property. Those parents should be able to tell their kids that that’s never an okay thing to do. Thinking otherwise is a dangerous fantasy. All of them are only kids for now. You only have so long when you can really influence their basic environment. Those kids both need to learn how to leave their boxes… we value history and literature for a reason. Maybe start there? I don’t envy parents…
@@waterdragondelta she had a chance the first time. I'm so sick of people using the "im educating them" excuse. If that's the case the just make the son write an essay to "educate him."
If kiddo was mature enough not to take it further, he would be mature enough not to do it in the first place. Lukewise if he expects compensation for it, he KNOWS its a dog act.
In story #9 it sounds like the wife may see this as a way of getting out of the marriage. Could she be cheating and using this as a way to cover it up?
In a lot of these stories when one person peranoidly starts accusing the other person of cheating without real evidence they the themselves are the one cheating.
It's that or being let go because they don't care so no job. As it sucks it doesn't matter unless someone died the job will look for a way to get rid of you
30:24 The two infractions aren’t exactly the same. What she did was horrible, but there’s a difference between making racist jokes (not directed at anyone) and property destruction. It could be claimed the girl’s actions were based in stupidity. I don’t know the same thing can be said for the boy.
Story 6: NTA does this mother want this to go to court? because in the eyes of the law that is a clean cut case of stealing/joyriding and u'd get more then just a bill for replacing the scooter. Story 11: ESH, seems like everyone needs a baseball bat to the head over this entire fiasco, yes the daughter started things off but the escalation which resulted in a group committing vandalism and destruction of property was NOT the way to respond and the fact the parents didn't handle this properly doesn't help
I'd like some more details on story 14. OP says daughter was saying racist things, but what exactly was she saying? Because in many cases, people get offended by something and decide on the spot that it must be racism. They don't seem the know the difference. Were they using slurs? That would be racist. Were they laughing at the language being used? Because to many kids, hearing another language for the first time, it might sound humorous. That may be seen as offensive, but it isn't racist. Without further details, I can't even be sure that the daughter was, in fact, being racist. Regardless, the parenting in this story seems to be completely ineffectual for both the daughter and the son. Since he told them to shut up to their face and was still allowed to hang out with his friends. And daughter was still out shopping with her friends.
Story 7: I think both are just idiots. The guy should have communicated his feelings and the wife should have communicated her intentions. If you’re going to do something permanent to your body, the least you can do is mention it to your spouse and similarly, if you have a problem with them, you owe it to your spouse to be honest about how you feel and not let it bottle up.
Story 8: This is not a "harmless" prank. This is very close to, if not a case of, bullying. If this girl thinks that she is going out on a date, and turns out to be the laughing stock, the outcome could be tragic. Do these boys know for sure that this girl does not have depression. I am not saying that she does, because I do not know her, but if she does, this bully "prank" could put her over the edge. If she goes to the extreme and harms herself, what will these boys tell her parents when she winds up at the hospital or worse, the cemetery? "Uh, sorry, it was just a harmless prank."
Story 3 - Eh, I disagree. An appendectomy takes, like, 5 minutes. Recovery time isn't long either. If the wife would have been completely alone for it, then yeah, I think she would have been right to be somewhat upset. As it is, she sounds a little demanding. It's not that she just wanted to not be alone at the hospital, which is COMPLETELY understandable; she wanted SPECIFICALLY her husband's presence all day. He's trying to support her by providing for them financially, and she had the support of other family members. I don't think he's the A-hole.
Last OP isn't the AH for not letting her son go to his school dance after he destroyed his sister's dress, she's the AH for not letting her son go to his school dance after he destroyed his sister's dress but allowing his daughter to attend her school dance after making horribly racist comments.
Story 1: NTA. Your brother dated and married the bully and brought her home. Story 2: NTA. They cannot change the nature of the fundraiser and expect everything to be the same. Story 3: NAH. You need to do work at inconvenient times as well. The wife can also feel not happy. Story 4: NTA. You agreed to setup the wedding if you want it your way. You can disengage anytime. Story 5: NTA. This is not friend remove her from your life. Story 6: NTA. Your sister should not have her son steal your scooter. F that. Story 7: NAH. Just don't expected your husband to be happy with it. He is allowed to feel upset about it when he told you clearly he doesn't like tattoo. You don't care about his opinion. Don't be upset when he is upset. Story 8: NTA. The prank sucks and you are a good parent. Story 9: NTA. Did your wife explain this boundary to you before? Weird. Story 10: NTA. You are not required to give +1. Now if all the adults have a +1 even those that are not in a relationship then it would flip. Story 11: NTA. Your brother doesn't love you. You spoke truth. Sometimes, truth sucks. Story 12: YTA. This is your schedule not your bf. Story 13: YTA. You need to balance household load with all people. Friends are no excuse. Story 14: YTA. The punishment is unbalanced. Your daughter dismissed people. Your son dismissed a dress. I understand you want punishment to relayes to something similar to what they did but this is not the way.
Story: 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. In these stories, the OPs are not the ah. Story 1- OP is not the ah, are the brother and Nancy's Mom that delusion and blind to think that they're being married would erase what Nancy did to Piper? They are idiots, watch when Piper is 18; she will move away and never speak to them again. Story 7- I am doing the same as OP a tattoo for my father, also her body is her choice, he must already know OP like tattoos. Especially ones that have meaning to them. Story 9- I think the wife feels a bit insecure about this, and I think OP should give her a bit of space and then talk with her. It is not weird to have friends braid each other hair. Story: 3, 12, 13, and 14. In these stories, the OPs are the ah. Story 3- I can understand fork in the round OP in, but it doesn't matter if the surgery is simple or complicated the patient is usually scarred so I don't blame the wife for wanting OP there with her and I think the work would of been ok with him missing a day despite his been new to work. Story 12- OP created this problem and she should be the one to train the dog not to wake up at that time and teach the dog to relax until OP or the BF wake up Story 13- For this one, is like OP in unintentionally punishing the son who doesn't have a friend to do more of the work compared to the other siblings,I think OP should make a schedule of chores, where they see who does what and when and what days/time they free that will make things fair. Story 14-I have seen this story before and it boggles my mind that the son gets a worse punishment for destroying something because he knows what his sister said and did was wrong. OP needs to reevaluate the punishment and crime that each the kid did.
Gotta disagree on that last one. While both kids were guilty of racially motivated issues, one said things, the other did things. Destructive things. The punishment for talking stupid and insulting things should be more education. The punishment for willfully destroying someone else's property should be much more severe.
Story 14 I think that OP was in the right to have Ryker stay home. Gianna had to write paragraphs and sit through essentially a meeting as punishment for her racism hence the lesson being taught(not that she learned anything from it but it was taught). Ryker destroys a dress that costs money to get and gets told that since he destroyed the dress he can't go( more extreme actions gets more extreme lesson). What OP doesn't say is whether or not Gianna was able to go. If she wasn't able to go due to Ryker's actions then Ryker shouldn't be able to go either. Even if Gianna found another dress and went Ryker still cost OP money and got punishment for the vandalism. The only way OP should have done anything different was if she told Ryker to either stay home or pay them back(by doing chores or with money) Comparing racism with vandalism is like saying a person stealing an apple should get same sentence as a person stealing from a bank.
When we were cheerleaders in high school we made our own uniforms. It was a requirement. Why would you buy them when you can just have the girls make them? Kind of gross wearing bloomers that someone else wore on their you-know-what.

Spiteful would be her telling people not to participate in the fundraiser. OP just stood her ground.
