Now this is what Im talking about! All the people that diss Hammer cant even put on a show like this! This man brings the dead back to life straight up! He deserves to hit that pinnacle of success again and show 'em how its done! He was the first, last and always!
Wow, still entertaining after all these years. I was a Hammer fan way back then and I am a Hammer fan to this day. Extra point to hammer for keeping his vow to his wife and points to her for hanging in there when the going got tough.
People now try to hate on Hammer...but he was literally the James Brown for HIp Hop...that was his premise....he sold millions...so he obviously was not corney back in the day....
I remember this from back in the day. Man, MC Hammer on Arsenio Hall was an event that me and the family would have to make preparaions for. Him on Arsenio would be so live, so exciting! Man, this was the thing back then!
I gotta agree with kangk Mc Hammer killed this performance!!! DAAAAAMMMMNNNNN!! I never seen anything like this before from any performer. Props to Mc Hammer! I wish I would of seen this live for reals.
Here's the story behind the song. This is the first actual performance of " U Can't Touch This " in front a live studio audience for the first time , the video was not made until 1990. Also , the live performance featured a demo version of the track before it was finished . so that explains why you don't hear the rick james sample.Story is that he was invited by Arsenio to come down , and debut the track , and this was in late 1989.
MC hammer on Arsenio, that used to be the event that everyone had to see. I remember that the family used to everything in order to see this and all the kids would talk about it at school the next day. Man, I miss those days:(
We have this college talent show and I think Im going to try to do Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" routine. This is gonna be hard as hell! The man is just too damn good.
It makes me mad that folks say that sellout crap but the ones who said that about him got commercials, clothing lines, movie deals/directing movies, etc. I commend him for trying to help, or as they used to say "... being part of the solution". It's a shame how folks dissed him then and still do and he is the reason why some of them have the opportunites they have now.
Has anyone noticed that this first televised version of "You Can't Touch This" does not have the bass line taken from "Super Freak?" It's not there! I was amazed when I saw this broadcast back then - amazed. I guess Rick James and Hammer's lawyers hadn't come to terms yet, and they told Hammer he couldn't use the bass line on Arsenio Hall! And he just basically kills it anyway!
Hammer tried to help a lot of people in his corner and they screwed him over. He was a real good artist who could have went much farther than what he did had he gotten the respect that he deserved back then.
Hammer was a true entertainer. When you went to a Hammer concert you got your money's worth. Back in my youth I went to see T Short, NWA, Compton's most wanted, and the concert was strait boring. They walked around holding themselves and they would dis Hammer because rapper aren't suppose to dance. Hammer was the man.
I was there the day of that taping in the audience, NEVER saw anything like that before in my life, it was awesome!
McHammer live on Arsenio Hall was the best performance of any live talk show to this date*****Thanks for the video!!
Jeez! I can still feel the energy all these years later!

oh man,i don't care what those rappers said about him ,this is just beautiful
arsenio hall was notorious for NOT letting artists lip sync on his show. So all this was legit!!!
HAMMER IS THE MAN, HE NEEDS TO COME BACK, RAP PERFORMANCES HAVE NEVER EVER BEEN THE SAME
Now this is what Im talking about! All the people that diss Hammer cant even put on a show like this! This man brings the dead back to life straight up! He deserves to hit that pinnacle of success again and show 'em how its done! He was the first, last and always!

PLEASE HAMMER, DON'T HURT 'EM!
Now that's a catchy chant!
We have this college talent show and I think Im going to try to do Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" routine. This is gonna be hard as hell! The man is just too damn good.
Just saw him in Louisville. Fantastic show. He's definitely TOO LEGIT TO QUIT!

The man had plenty of hits other than this and gave GREAT shows. And through all his fame he still stayed with his wife!

Hammer tried to help a lot of people in his corner and they screwed him over. He was a real good artist who could have went much farther than what he did had he gotten the respect that he deserved back then.

Damn, Hammer is fricken electrifying on stage

At one time, I had this performance on VHS, wonder whatever happened to that tape.
Hammer gave a lot of people jobs, back in the day. There's about a hundred people backing him up on that stage.
