Congrats! I am a huge planner. Now that you are switching schools/states, I would love to see a video on things new teachers/recent graduates/teachers switching schools can do over summer to prepare for their future classroom. Maybe ideas of things to buy, templates to prepare, websites to check out, etc. It would me the world to me:)

This is so crazy. I literally had the same thing happen. I teach in California . I was in the market for a new job and was offered a demo lesson (same grade same standard). I didn't do a suitcase but I brought a box for movie night that we looked at. I had to do a collaboration after that and then I was offered the job. I also will be teaching ELA in 4th. Congrats!!!

I am doing my final semester of student teaching this fall in an ELA fifth grade classroom in Illinois, so I will graduate in December. I can officially start applying for jobs the first day of my student teaching semester, and you gave me so many tips. Thank you so much. I immediately subscribed after the video.
I was excited when you described your demonstration lesson, because I did one very similar for one of my formal lessons. I was helping my students review test taking strategies for PARCC testing, and you are right about students struggling with main idea and key details because even fifth graders struggle with finding key details at times.
I am also excited for you having a fourth grade ELA class. Language arts is my passion, and I enjoy the upper elementary grades learning about it. I can't wait to follow you on your journey.

I'm truly blessed by this video! I've been praying that God would help me develop a greater excellence in my own teaching career and you practically embody what I've been striving for! I love that you went in an knew your purpose and plan and you did not deter from that. This has truly motivated me to excel; to go above and beyond (I wouldn't have thought about taking screen shots to show that you had something completed, nor would I have thought about having pictures of the anchor charts and student materials for the demonstration lesson)! Thank you for this video! I'm not planning on moving or going to a new school but this has encouraged me to be more organized, to expect more from myself than what is required. I feel more invigorated to go back and teach my kinders this school year!

Congratulations on your new job! You sound so excited and positive - they are lucky to have you! In England when we apply for teaching posts, we have to teach a lesson in front of the head teacher, deputy head teacher, head of department and there could be teaching assistants in the class too! If they're happy with your lesson then you'll be put through to the next round which is interviews! I know of some schools where a panel of kids will talk to you too and they will feedback to senior leadship! It is crazy stressful.

Yay! I have been following you for a little while now and have really loved the content you put up. I was actually thinking "ooh I love her ideas and I wonder what she would do if she taught 4th?" the last time I watched one of your videos. The reason being I am actually a 4th grade teacher in Texas! Next year will be my fifth year and I'll be teaching 4th grade math. I'm also a mommy and I have a two year old boy. 😀 This was actually my first year going back to work after having him and it almost felt like being a first year teacher! I would love to hear any tips or advice for working-mom/teacher. This was a really helpful video actually as we will have to move to Virginia for my husband's job here in the near future. Oh, and also I would totally be onboard with doing a PD book club. Congratulations on you new job!

Ah!!! How exciting! I taught fourth grade in California and South Carolina and had to go through getting certified in another state and the whole interviewing process ( demo lesson and all, it was actually a interviewing event with LOTS of teachers ) whew! I'm about to do it all again now in North Carolina and it's been a few years since the last time. Watching your video has made me nervous BUT excited and eager to get started! Argh! I've been outta the classroom for 3 years being mommy and military wife so having to do it all again is truly daunting! But I'm gonna continue watching cuz I need motivation and courage to drag me off my stay-at-home-mommy-butt! Wish me luck as I wish you luck on your move (packing and moving is standard for military, you're organized so you'll rock it!) and your transition to fourth grade (it's an AWESOME grade level: higher level of thinking and great content BUT not yet chaddy and "tweeny" acting👍🏼). I LOVE teaching 4th ELA standards! ❤️

Hi! Congratulations on your new job! It's been very funny...I've been following you and watching your videos since the one you uploaded about your planner almost a year ago which I had(have) a similar one as well. As the videos came up, I found out about A LOT more things we have in common! And now to find out that you're originally from Texas too :) I am also moving, funny to say I have an interview tomorrow, keeping my fingers crossed. For the past 7 years I have been team teaching and taught ELA, from 1st to 2nd to 4th and just finished this school year in 3rd. You will love it! Your Main Idea lesson sounded great! Not sure what kind of testing they have in Pennsylvania??? At least you won't stress with the STAAR test taking place in Texas. Well, I wish you nothing but the very best! I'll keep watching, you have become my "on-screen" teacher friend where you just keep me saying "Yup! Been there, done that! Would have done it the same! Super cute! Awesome idea! I know right??!" etc, etc, etc :) Thank you for sharing!

+The Lettered Classroom When do you start moving?
I can't imagine how stressful moving to a new house, starting a new job in another grade level is ... that far from home ... with two small kids.
I think it's even exhausting to move just a classroom to another one at the same school at the end of the year :D

Loved this video! Sooo excited for you and your family!! 😝 My 4th grade teacher made the biggest impact on my education, so you have a great opportunity to do the same with your new kids. ☺️ Can you do a video on tips for preparing a demo lesson, like a guide to setting it up and getting ideas based on standards?

Yes! Absolutely! This really made my day. I hope to be that for a student one day.

+The Lettered Classroom You definitely can/will be! I can tell by your attitude and your passion for teaching, it's very similar. I'm in school to be a teacher as well and your videos are getting me so excited! Thank you for your amazing content. You have given me amazing ideas and so much motivation! 🤗

When does your next school year start in Pennsylvania?
(BTW: I'm about to end my junior year of high school and will begin to apply to major in early childhood and elementary education in the summer. You inspire me so much and once I become a teacher I will definitely be using your videos as reference a lot! Please keep making videos. I look forward to new ones coming out every week!)

Congrats! I'd hire you, too. Just a quick note - you mentioned you have a 9 year old. As someone who has been teaching since before you were born, I want to give you a head's up. You will have a slightly different home/school separation as you will be teaching and hanging with 9 year old's all day and going home to 9 year old problems. There will be times when this overwhelms you - take a breath and give yourself down time. You own son will be a whole different person in a whole different age group in two years. It's the same for any teacher who teaches kids the same age as her own. My friends who teach K went through it, my friends who teach seniors went through it. It's a teacher staging thing. Keep breathing.

Yes, I completely understand. I started teaching when my older son was in kindergarten. We started kindergarten together and now we are starting fourth together. My younger one keeps me on my toes so I am welcoming the change. :) Thanks!

Btw - I think you're absolutely fabulous. I'm 15 and I started working as a teachers assistant at my church and I was brought on staff. I think i want to be an elementary teacher and I live in Alabama too! But in mobile the salary is like 30k or less so I'd have to teach in Baldwin county. Thoughts?

Wow congratulations. Thanks for sharing your secret. You seem very happy thats good. I just had an interview for a school a few days ago. Should I email the principal just to remind her of me? I always feel like I am bothering people when I do that sort of thing.
