    The checklist is brilliant!! I like to have a sign on the smart board that tells my parents to write a note to their child to leave on their desk, so they can come in and find it in the morning....to prep, I have notecards, stickers, markers and pens :)

    The goodie bag is a great idea. Pens would be a great thing to put in there so they have something to fill out the forms!

    Great tips, sadly a day late for me, as a first year teacher I can attest to the fact on how EXHAUSTING back to school night is. I came home last night and was completely out within 15 minutes for the whole night.
    It was a life saver having toys out for siblings (and even my students). As I'm talking to another family, the parents can start filling out paperwork, and the students have something to do (and it was a great opportunity for some of the students to start getting to know each other while playing). I'm first grade.

      So sorry! Sounds like you did really well anyway! Having the siblings entertain is PRICELESS!

      +The Lettered Classroom I just laughed to myself when I got home that night and saw your video. I was able to share it with other teachers though that had their back to school night last night. Great tips as always!

    I definitely must have a packet ready or parent handbook. It not only helps the parents with something to do or read but it helps to calm my nerves that I don't have 25 plus pair of eyes on me. So it is a life saver during my presentation. This year I may put the info up on the Smartboard as parents follow along in their own individual packets be so far having a parent handbook has helped me tremendously. I love the tip about a parent goody bag or treat. I've done one for the kiddos but not for the fam. Will definitely do that this year. Tfs.

      Oh, and the teacher code! ;-)

      I don't think I could survive without the teacher code! It comes in handy for at least one teacher each year!

    At my school, the parent forms for each student are copied and put into large envelopes by the office with the help of the instructional assistants. They also put a label on the envelope with the name of the child and the teacher. The class set of these envelopes is delivered to my room during teacher prep week so that I can have them for parents at Open House, which is the Thursday afternoon before school starts.

    You're so right!! I love your giving tree idea! I spend so much money in my class that it would help if parents could provide the class with some items.

    • @BridgingLiteracy
      @BridgingLiteracy  8 лет назад +1

      Oh my, yes it has been AMAZING! And parents are usually willing to help if you let them know what you need. I know some schools do not allow asking for items, so you may want to double check! If you get to try it this year, let me know how it works out!

      tanyauyeda I think a set or two of foam blocks is always a good idea. Just lay them out on a carpet in a little corner and both boys and girls enjoy playing with them and they can usually entertain children from ages 1-10. I always find good sets of foam blocks at Marshalls, t.j. Maxx, or Target.

    Just out of curiosity, do you have some kind of paperwork that informs parents about your RUclips channel/that their kids and their work may be featured on it? Or do you keep it more private because it's not as widely practiced of an activity as being a makeup guru for example? I know as a parent I would be so proud that my child's teacher produces the kind of content that you do, so that would be interesting! Thanks for the great content by the way, your videos make me so excited to become a teacher! 😋💗

      I do get permission from parents. Some opt out and that's ok too, I completely understand.

    • @pinktatergirl27
      @pinktatergirl27 8 лет назад

      +The Lettered Classroom Thank you for replying! I figured you would have some kind of notification, and that makes total sense. I know as a parent I would not opt out of that kind of experience because it's amazing for a teacher to put out as much effort and passion as you do.
