For preston s. (a teenager born and raised in Iowa) music began at a young age. Preston’s music career kicked off as he began learning instruments like the guitar and piano. His love for artists like Juice WRLD, along with his experience of video editing, Preston began creating covers for his RUclips channel. His premiere cover of “Lucid Dreams” would cause Preston to dive headfirst into making music. Preston’s EP “Legacy,” covering the topics of heartbreak, personal growth, and dedication, marks the beginning of a new era of music. On another note, Preston's hit song "Fever Dream" will send chills down your spine! With a music video directed by Zach Hancock, this song is sure to scare. This young singer, songwriter, and producer has many gifts to share through his wonderful talent of music. Видеоклипы
Also you're the only one I've found who's mentioned the ctrl+mouse to zoom, I've been trying to figure it out. Thank you.😊
Thanks for mentioning that!
If anyone still watchin this after you make the melody with the piano u can open up flex and replace it with another instrument for a better sound
Dude you explain so well and make it easy to understand, thank you for putting in the time and the work to help us beginner producers out here. I can tell you're gonna go far in life, you've got your head on your shoulders. Good luck on your journey!
Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words and well wishes! I remember what it was like starting out, having to scour RUclips trying to teach myself, so I’m glad I could put it all in one place! I’ve transitioned out of music and into film but will always be telling stories in some way!
this genuinely should have more than 10k views this was so fantastically articulated i wish you success in the future and will push your vids for the algorithm
Thank you I’m glad it helped!!
When I seen the length and low view count I knew it had to be something
Thanks for the support let me know if you have any questions
This is legit an absurd quality conten. It's a shame it doesn't have more views. I'm glad I've found your channel, as thanks to you I've just made my first beat
I’m glad it helped and you made your first beat, keep making music!!
one of the best tutorials iv ever seen. good job

if i could i would give you 1M views because you helped me so much and finally i can do 808 without thinking it’s so off. thank you so much and keep it up! just made my first beat thanks to you !!:)
I’m glad the video helped, 808s are super difficult and super satisfying once you figure it out!
Idk if you're amazing at dumbing things down or if I just got less dumb, but damn i remember when I first wanted to make beats around 3 years ago just looking at a DAW overwhelmed me and now that I've seen this video i feel extremely confident about FL Studio. I feel like other channels are either painfully boring or expect you to have a lot of prior knowledge but you really stripped it down to the basics. I salute you.
Thank you for your comment! I really wanted to make a video that I wish I could’ve seen when I started because what you said is true, the other videos are too complicated. Glad I could break it down for you, drop any questions you have here

Thanks man. This helped ALOTTTT.
Glad it helped!!
Thank you, I've always felt very intimidated by FL Studio and other music production software for a very long time and the concepts behind music production, which made it very hard to get into music production because I have no clue where to start. This video broke down some of those barriers and made it feel less intimidating, and it was easy and enjoyable to follow along, I even felt comfortable enough at certain parts to kinda do my own thing! I think I'm gonna try and continue to learn how to produce my own music, I don't want to make hip-hop or trap but this definitely taught me some fundamentals. This is a great gateway into the world of music production, and I think I'm gonna keep exploring....
I'm glad I could help explain it well! Keep me updated on your journey!

can you explain the horseshoe in the playlist ? i didn't quite get it , amazing vid btw thanks in advance
The notes will snap onto how ever many you divided the measure into if you have the snap to grid feature enabled
This is way to underrated.
Been singing and rapping for 3 years. Never thought making beats would been so mutch fun! Thank you man:)
Glad this video helped!!!
Great video! You don't have to excuse yourself with "I know this is confusing right now" so often. If you feel you're explaining something in a way your audience can't follow, take a breath and try to elaboprate. Why wouldn't we understand what you're saying? You're doing a great job, thanks for creating that video!
I’m glad this was helpful and made it easy for you, I wanted to make something that thoroughly explained because it was hard to find this when I started!
tips for making it better / more variation?
Listen to how some of your favorite songs introduce different sections. Look up how to make a “delayed drop,” mess with hi hat patterns, strum mode on chords, etc.
How long did it actually took to make your first beat and first good beat how do you decide which sound goes with what?
Since there are so many sounds how do you know which sounds to use?
It took about an hour to make my first one. I used a video on “how to make a Drake type beat.” There are a lot of sounds and as you get better you will know which to do for whatever type of beat you need to make. For now, stick to the ones that you like the most, that’s how you find your unique style; whatever resonates with you!
Yo, first of all, thanks for the video, it really helped me. Then, quick question for the piano roll. I probably changed some color settings, but I don't know how to change it back. The problem is that I don't have horizontal separation with a light and darker gray for the white and black keys. Do you know how I can change that back ?
Glad I could help! Try going to the “View” tab and messing with the different scale highlighting or key view settings. Let me know if that works!
@@directedbypreston I just reopened fl and its good now didn't had to do anything thanks tho.
@sascha.widmer glad it worked! Let me know if you have any other questions

Hello, what other resources should I use for my first beat? I want simple explanations of drum patterns etc, or is it best to just watch a variety of beat videos?
The best way to learn is by searching “how to make ____ type beats fl studio” and fill the blank in with an artist you are trying to emulate
Do u just use stock 808s? Cuz I recommend downloading separate 808s and kicks from sample packs and stuff
I use samples yeah but I’m always looking for better packs I would get the Nick Mira one but I don’t have the budget
@@directedbypreston crack it
I don’t have the option “kits” in my side bar how can I fix this?
If you would like to add a shortcut go to "options" then click "file settings" and click the folder icon to select the folder you would like to make a shortcut for. You can shortcut your own kit folder or the one in the description.
Knew ts was gon be solid cause when I clicked on he already had fl open no bs and he was talking at a normal pace
Feels like i can finally talk
pause.. 1:47
so how can you open your beat again after you export it?
Unfortunately you can't with the free trial version.
Which app should one download
I used FL Studio for this tutorial, the free demo version.

Hey, I am doing everything correct as you say but when I put on the channel rack the kick, the whole beat mutes and I cannot fix it I tried everything I dont know if it is kick's problem or it's something else. Please help it has happened so many times...
Edit: I deleted the kick and it's still muted. It says the beat is playing but I can't see the green line or hear anything
Try adjusting the button at the top where it says “pattern” by the play button. If that doesn’t work, let me know and I will help you!
Drop your questions here and I WILL reply!
Hey bro how do i even upload your sample drumkit to FL studios?
First, download it from the description. Then, just drag each sound into the sequencer. Let me know if you any further questions!
@preston s. thank you bro, finally making this come true with your help 💯💯💯💯
@@edwardpulido8254 glad i get to be a apart of it
why do i only see C cords in piano??
Currently learning FL and I happen to stumble upon this.. not even subbed to ur channel for some reason
Hope the video helped!!
how do i sperate things ? like i have some chords and then a main melody both done on fl keys it just links them all together, its separated on the pattern track but i cant sperate it on the mixer
The “- -“ or number next to the pattern track shows which channel on the mixer the pattern will be sent to. Send them to different numbers!
@@directedbypreston nah bro i mean theres only one fl key thing on there so your saying put 2 fl keys on the pattern track 1 for the main melody one for chords ???
If you want to, I don’t remember how I did it in the video but you can do it any way that you want. If that doesn’t answer your question let me know I’m here to help
@@directedbypreston thanks bro, I’ll do some research part of me is thinking maybe u can’t it has to be to different plugins idk I’ll try find out, great video btw underrated as hell
Of course bro anything you need, just comment or hmu on IG @preston_s_
Are stock drums bad?
they are not the best for the style of music I was making at the time, but it's all up to what you are trying to make!
i dont have kits folder, how do I get it?
You can download the folder in the description. Once it’s downloaded right click on it and click extract all. Once you have your new folder, go to FL studio and click options > file settings. Click a folder icon and find the kits file. Let me know if that works
@@directedbypreston thank you so much
how to download this kit because i have trouble with it
Click the link in the description, download it and then if on Windows, right-click and press “extract all”
@@directedbypreston thx a lot broski keep doing what u do it is really something
when I go to my fl keys it only has c1,c2,c3...to c10 and that's it
You can go to settings and go to view and change it
How do I download that kit? it asks me for a zip file
The zip file is in the description
Did anyone make the same chord progression as him or did you all make your own?
You can use any chord progression but you’ll have to change the 808 notes
@@directedbyprestonI did!! Thank you so much!!
dude everytime i try to do my drums it already has drums and idk its weird but it shows only the stuff i put down
Try adding your own sounds to it and let me know how that goes?
@@directedbypreston nvm i figured it out it was because i had some weird setting idk
@cookie73299 glad you got it figured out

2024 first beat
Congrats!
For some reason the tempo is really slow for me and I've tried turning up but it still goes really slow any fixes
Yes, you can double click on the sample and change the resample mode back and forth from stretch.
@prestons no I'm creating the beat from the video does it still work
@Its.kxllua all the processes in the video should still work , what seems to be the problem?
@prestons like it's slow and I wanna make it fast but when i change the tempo it's slow still idrk how to fix it
Double click on the audio files in the channel and on the right side next to mode change them all to stretch, now it should change the tempo
