    As historically inaccurate as this portrayal of Pocahontas and John Smith in love is, there is no denying the beauty of this song

      Eh honestly I don’t really care for the real story because of how disturbing it is unfortunately. I’m part Native American and they’re honestly one of my all time favorite couples. They deserved to be together and it just HAD to be them without a happily ever after. This song broke my heart every time, and the fact John Smith NEVER cried is bold. Honestly when I think about who was hurting more when they separated I think he hurt more, considering she managed to turn him into a better human.

      One of the things I always think of is Disney criticism of factual characters, when I’m reality there aren’t people out here with singing and talking animals floating about either. And in a more serious note the original material of these fairy tales are darker than some of the shit you see on the today. I see these movies for what they are and the messages they present. Colors of the Wind was one of the most important and influential songs of my time period. And honestly, it’s one we should hear more today than ever. The movies and stories fabricate it’s true, but the messages they convey are real enough that we should focus more on making the idea of peace, true love and kindness a reality.

    • @shanelogan630
      @shanelogan630 2 года назад

      I’m a small percentage of Mkmaque Indian. I know Pocahontas had a tragic end in reality. But fortunately there are movies depicting it so people can see her truth. I just don’t want that blinding the message behind this movie. That racism isn’t right, that the natives of this land are people too and after suffering so long deserve happiness, and that although fiction the idea behind love like this is one that should become reality.

      @@shanelogan630 I’m not sure but I might be Cherokee. I didn’t get to watch Pocahontas until I was older, but I actually had a kids book about the real Pocahontas and John Smith, so I already had it out of my system. Part of the reason Pocahontas is one of my favorites is I had a HUGE crush on John Smith since I was 7 and still do lol

      Same! As much as the ending completely broke my heart I still admire and slightly appreciate she doesn’t give up her life and people for someone she didn’t know for long despite everyone knew how amazing he was. I’m keeping the sad ending as a setup for my part 2 rewrite to make Pocahontas Smith! Honestly why the f*ck Disney tried forcing her with f*cking John Rolfe is beyond me. Don’t care about historical accuracy. They’re my favorite couple along with Rapunzel and Flynn Rider

    • @rohirrim11rider
      @rohirrim11rider 10 лет назад +12

      ARIAificationify They tried to force historical accuracy onto a fictional tale loosely based on fact. The John Rolfe romance was stupid. Here's the thing. Made for DVD movies aren't canon in my book. When you go to Disney or if you watch their live shows, you will see Pocahontas and John Smith's romance immortalized. The original film is classic and untouchable. So a made for DVD sequel has zero merit for being aknowledged in my book.

    I love how everyone in the comments forgets that, while Pocahontas was a real person, Disney changed a shit ton of stuff. Pocahontas was like, 12 when she met John Smith and he was in his 30-40s. They had a more father/daughter relationship. She did go to England when she was around 16 and was married off to Ralph as part of a treaty, (though there isn't really any evidence the weren't happy) and died of smallpox in her twenties.

    This may have been the least popular Disney princess movie from the Renaissance era and from a historian's perspective, completely butchered what the true history was, but there is no denying the great emotional weight and beauty of the song. Seriously, the song made my heart heavy with a longing for a man I may never meet. In the end, this song inspires my own creative thinking for my own romantic fanfictions in my mind. Tell me, what do you feel when you listen to this song?

    • @adrianam.9567
      @adrianam.9567 5 лет назад +5

      Honestly for me it shows true love. It’s also nit just a love song it holds a much bigger meaning. In the song they sing how bad the world can be with lies, rage etc. and how they didn’t know how big fear and hate could be. And that can be relatable to so many situation ppl experience and not just for a forbidden love. I think the song is really moving and it’s so sad it didn’t make it into the movie. Defiantly one of the most meaningful love song from Disney.

    • @kristinahuchison2511
      @kristinahuchison2511 2 года назад +4

      Honestly of the 90’s it’s probably unfortunately the weakest because a LOT of them had a nice blend of more mature themes along with the right hit of comedy without overdoing it. But the fact Pocahontas and John Smith have the most intense love makes up for it, especially with Smith’s character development. Not to mention their encounter gets MAJOR points because it has got to be the best encounter scene in ANY video, along with the gorgeous animation! Also in comparison to the rest the ending as sad as it is, is memorable and deserved to have a continuation of their love in Part 2. But Colors of the Wind and If I Never Knew You are amongst the best Disney songs EVER. Honestly I actually don’t love Beauty and the Beast or even a Whole New World, they’re nice, but If I Never Knew You is literally a promise they’ll always love each other and do not regret falling in love either

      Honestly I feel if this song wasn’t deleted Pocahontas wouldn’t have gotten so much criticism considering the tune is sprinkled several times throughout the movie, specifically each time their love is growing. Its like when the Little Mermaid was being made, Part of Your World was almost deleted but one of the composers fought hard to keep it in. I seriously want to bitchslap whoever got the final decision to cut this gorgeous song

He tried turning her into a civilized lady in 15 minutes and the fact her outfit is white screamed whitewash, especially with all that disgusting powder plastered on. It took him the ENTIRE movie to finally accept her as she was. Smith on the other hand NEVER tried changing her and was in love with her the first time he looked at her

    i like this movie, but even though i like the sequel, i think Disney shouldn't've made it. the 2nd one being partially historically acurate (in real life Pocahntas was with John Rolfe and never had romantic feelings for John Smith.) completly ruined the beautiful love story they created in the 1st movie. so Disney made a wrong move with the sequel. and even though i'm sure there will be some people who don't agree with me that the sequel was good, i know quite a few people will agree with me that it was a mistake to make it. oh, and this song is beautiful. :)

      ***** So basically, make "Pocahontas" a stand-alone feature with no sequel? If that ever happened, there would have to be at least a "The end" title card before the credits. "The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride" did this as an ending to their main franchise ("The Lion King 1 1/2" came shortly in theaters five years later as more of a retelling of the first movie under Timon and Pumbaa's points of view).

    • @silvergirlXO

    • @WinxRivenIsHot
      @WinxRivenIsHot 9 лет назад +3

      ***** Not necessarily. The first movie ended with John going away on the boat and that heartbreaking wave goodbye. Really, if you were a person who would want historical accuracy, you would just assume they never saw each other again for whatever reasons. We don't actually need to see the separation being made.

    • @Arcanagosa
      @Arcanagosa 5 лет назад +4

      Mel became unpopular in 2006 because he was arrested and made some Anti-Semitic comments. He has apologized and as far as I know shown absolutely no indications that he truly believes the cruel statements he made, though I could be wrong.
      I was going to comment on this on the other side. I had absolutely no idea he could sing, or sing this beautifully. I am utterly blown away by his performance here.

    If our time has gone too fast,
    I’ve lived at last…..
    Also, this song is obviously meant to be romantic, but some of the lyrics aren’t specifically romantic, idk, hard to explain

    Pocahontas’ love story was lost bc it was stupid to do a colonizer love story. But this story with a good setting would’ve been beautiful. Love fast that can’t happen and a woman choosing herself/people over true love while he loved her still
