I really like this form. I have been researching and practicing Okinawan Kobudo. I have one nunchuck form, and am starting a bo staff form. I am in a formal Shaolin Kempo school, and one thing I have noticed is that what Chinese arts call "basic" and what Okinawan arts call "basic" are two very different things... lol Chinese basic is like Okinawan advanced techniques haha
thank you so much for sharing this. as a young child I practised various martial arts and was introduced to the bo staff (as it was for me at that time). fast fwd decades and I find myself practising this most days. 🙏🏼 🥋🇦🇺
i used to think the same alex, then i found out they are feiyue chinese martial arts balance shoes, check em out online, super cheap and ads something extra to training:)
the begining of this video is one of the( may be of martial arts or not), beautiful, nice, powerful, how the satues seems sympathic but powerful and nice. and the introduction of martial arts also pleased me. thanks.
That is true, though i recently found that Bodhidharma, who introduced Buddhism to China, greatly urged the advancement of the chinese martial arts into the early shaolin kung fu :) It's heritage is beautifully mixed and it would probably be very different without the interaction between India and China. We've both countries to thank for this elegant art :)
An Indian prince (or monk) named Bodhidharma went to China. The Chinese didn't really like him that much but he noticed that mongols often raided the Chinese towns and villages. They didnt want his help so he took shelter and medidated in a cave behind the Shaolin temple for 9 years. The Shaolin guarded the cave and meditated with him. They started to get unhealthy because they were sitting for a long period of time. So Bodhidharma taught them excersises to keep them healthy and self defense.
very pretty and well choreographed. Forms are a wonderful way to impress those who don't or can't. This shows his dedication to learning this form. It is beautiful and skillful, no doubt. But a demo. of his ability it is not. Doing this is simple compared to attempting something like this against a true opponent who desires to harm you. And it is not a stick it is a Staff.
@jauser its a long story but basically he grew up in the temple but when he turned 18 he wanted to leave. he left the temple and couldnt find any work because he had no real qualifications so he ended up taking a job in one of the local wushu schools out side the temple. so now that he doesnt have to shave his head he doesnt. im thinking next year i might do a short youtube video about his life and what he thought about temple life as a yougster.
His name is Ta Mong, with means big tiger. He was my friend and teacher at Tagou Wushu Institute in 1997-98 (huge kung-fu school near the monastery in Songshan). Really skilled, he has been one of the best student of the school.
The staff is a Shaolin Long Staff. I think in Japan it is called a bo, but in China called a gun (hence the name of the form Yin Shou Gun). The staff is a practice and demonstration staff usually made of wax wood, which is very flexible, lightweight, and does not break easily when hitting the ground. I think the combat staffs used historically would have been made of a harder wood and would have been much heavier and not flexible.
You were really taught by this guy? Your lucky, I practice wing chun right now and I love kung fu BUT wing chun just is not fulfilling my kung fu needs, I really want to learn a style more closer to this stuff more shaolin temple kind of stuff.
"chances of killing an appointment is dramatically low" Me who wants to have a staff but with a blade on one end and a hammer on the other end: *I'm about to bring that rate back up*
he is very fast...i will have to practice to come close to even get 50% of such speed, but that stick seems very balanced, compared to what i weild...(bows in admiration)
@antoniodistasi2 "The Shaolin Monk cannot kill by using a staff rather than a sword as a means of self defense, the chances of killing an opponent is dramatically low
@yulaw3 hi, they were both my coaches aswell. i stayed there for a year in 2006-2007 and i go back every year. i was there four months ago but i lost their contact details. i will call around and see if i can find some phone numbers for you.
There is no doubt that Kungfu, Wushu, Karate etc are powerful martial arts. Also there is no doubt that Chinese & Japanese contributed a lot for these arts. But some styles of these martial arts knowledge was adopted from ancient Indian arts only. When Indians speak these are Indian arts, they never mean, these arts are completely Indian arts but rather they want to spread the word to world that India also did contribute in these arts. Silambham is one such art that is similar to this video art.
he is not a real shaolin sifu.... the only sifu"S" the emple has are sifu Miao Hi , sifu Miao Whun and Sifu Miao Wei. (i wrote the names as they are pronounced , i have no idea how they are written in english)
Nothing on this earth relieves and calms me more than this practice.
He has Perfect form.

Thanks for sharing! Have an awesome day!
Beautiful form, best explanation, inspiring setting.. Thank you!
when i do this its a stick...when shaolins do it...its a staff.
More precisely a Bo staff.
more precisely a Bō, since a Bō is a staff.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C5%8D
Technically, youre just saying "staff staff" lol
@@ErikGauthierDrums This is a Cudgel not a Bo.
Bo is a Japanese stick.

I love how he has a fancy little robe on, but has sneakers xD
待化的冰 I said robe, not rope. Also, I'm pretty sure that's considered string, not rope..

I expect people invented them on their own actually. Arts develop just by people trying to do stuff - combat is the same.
