Truly the anthem of a generation.
I love this. I love that Smile Empty Soul doesn't shy away from the darker side of things like abuse, or pressure, or even molestation. There are sick, twisted things out there and i love the SES has the guts to show it to the world without the sugar-coating.
They rocked 15 years ago & still do today 🤘
Rocked out to this 15 years ago and nothings changed..still my top song to listen to
Saw them live last month still sick
😮❤🎉 omg where?! Im so excited now, i thought they quit yearsss ago @@RicanDevil1988
Why people have a commented about this song is just beyond me even when politics weren't a thing this is my music was real and there was no bull crap and a lot of music back then like this predicted the future
this band should've gotten bigger
I agree. They just might be the most underrated band in America. Their new album "Chemicals" kicks ass from start to finish.
ill check it out
Aaron Meacham they didn't play ball with the record company - they leaked their own album
ys but people are smaller so they cant see things clearly
I strongly disagree. They are average at best.
This is what's wrong with our kids today...Behind every bad kid is the parents who made them that way...
This song PWNS
back in high school I hung out with the 'punk rockers'. One day I picked up one of their cd's to listen to a random song. Still like this song like 10 years later.
yeah this music was so early 2000 and mid , I grew up in this punk rock environment high school, cool fucking kids they where, not hiding shit nothing showing it to the world and no shits where given, not fucking fake wanna bee's now on days that don't know who they are
@@guycanivet yeah dude fuck hiding it
How about 17 years later?!
This song hits home even harder today!
oh god...now that I'm not a 9 year old kid watching this, the scene with the old man and the frightened child finally makes sense. Oh my sweet blissful ignorance, how I miss you.
Love this band. Love their sound and love the fact that they write about things that actually matter in the world. They're underrated, no doubt, but I'm happy they're not a hugely popular band. That tends to spoil most bands, and I don't want these guys to change!
How sad.... just about every single one of us can relate to this song...I love this band.
It's 2023 now, and this song is extremely relevant for modern day society. 😢
Just saw these guys last night! They played one hell of a show, and Sean is actually a really nice guy!
I know the lead singer personally, its Shawn*
I know his whole family
That's fkin living there. When do they come to Denver.
lucky bastard
William Pierce I saw them last night and got the chance to talk to Shawn and he’s the most down to earth guy. So cool
If it is Shawn, then why does he spell it Sean?
I'll be 38 this month. I felt like this was my life aloud having been adopted and all. This song shaped how raise my family to this day. " And what did you expect." I miss Smile Empty Soul. Signed 2018
Im adopted to, I feel the same. Saw this song at age 13, it hit home
Same exact story with me.
This song speaks to me about the 2000 kids, who joined the infantry and fought a war " we are the poeple that you hate, we are the bastards that you created" ... Fuck yeah! I love this band they rock. I listened to them before every patrol!
cameron misrasi I fought in that war.
With every song I hear to this band
my heart breaks even more, why are they under-rated they deserve more fame!
Truth is, because the music industry doesn't like critical-thinkers and those who speak the truth, unfortunately.
+Crows Descend Except for the fact that they were incredibly popular back in the early/mid 2000s. All of their videos from this album played on MTV quite frequently & anyone into this sort of music knew about them. They just lost popularity because by the time their second album came out their style wasn't what was popular anymore.
+AwfulWaffleWalker very true. I always say that if they came out in the 90s they would have completely blown up. Do you think this style of music will ever come back again? It seems like Hip Hop has completely taken over I have nothing against it but i truly miss this style of music.
+caprica city No 90s was grunge and bubblegum pop. They wouldn't have been nearly as popular then. They were in the correct time frame music wise, but rock is always a bit less popular than other genres. Hip Hop today is a lot less popular than it was in mid 2000s. I'd also say drum and bass and edm is what's most popular now or at least those elements are mixed in even with pop music. As for if it'll ever be popular again, no it won't. Music is always evolving and moving towards the newest sounds.
+Asong writtenforyou I know this is a year old, but I am sitting hear listening to them now wondering the same exact thing! Every song is powerful with so many deep meanings in every song. I just don't see why some bands that suck get popular, and other bands that are awesome don't!
This band is my whole childhood. They r so underrated. I miss this
This isn't exactly my style of music, but I always find myself coming back to them, their lyrics always stand up for all the kids that had dysfunctional families, or just shitty childhoods in general. It really hits me, and they always bring up a lot of good points. People see anarchists and wonder "where did their parents go wrong?" but in reality, 99% of the time, it's because their parents were abusive, or not there at all. They capture the horrible process of growing up so perfectly.
Smile empty soul were my 1st concert ever, at bluecats in the old city of knoxville. I was from ohio, they were from michigan. So stellar i actually saw them 7 times total. These songs still hit so damn hard, total nostalgia❤
This band is so fucking underrated.
This song means a lot too me, im 16 and my father makes me feel like shit all the time, calling me names. im not a bad kid, I do good in school, and Im home in time for dinner and whenever my curfew is He just pulls at me where he knows it hurts. I like Smile Empty soul a lot and metal a lot too cause it tells the truth without bothering to glamorize it. the genre is so blunt, and i like it! But this song in specific tells about the front families put up to make themselves look good to society
Love your kids Parents... Just love them unconditionally and they will be allright.
It's not that easy, sadly.
This band was so underrated
Is still underrated, you mean.
no wonder why Smile Empty Soul was often overlooked, even their former label couldn't even get the name of the album right in the introductory blurb from which this awesome song hails. for those not in the know, this song is originally from their 2003 eponymous debut!
0:00 That's all you need to know that this song KICKS ASS!!! It is so good. That intro instrumental. Main reason it made me a fan. And then the chorus. Well simply put... ITS GREAT!!!
Great band. Proving nothing is the same as it appears to be. Father beats the hell out of older son, Family pervert priest molests younger son and the daughter they just kick out for probably turning 18 and not established yet. Been going on for a long time and these guys are putting it out there. The reason they’re underrated is for telling it the way it really is. It’s been awhile since I was a kid, but I totally love this band and others like Seether, Crossfade, and Silverchair. Most of my peers just love country or boring slow pop. No thanks✌️
That song is so kick ass and heartfelt! Delivers that bone chilling shock and goosebumps. Been on repeat since yesterday
the best song of Smile empty soul
Brings me back to 2003🤘🏼🤘🏼
Smile Empty Soul ROCK!!!!!!!!
Heck yes
This video clip makes me cry. Epic song. Really makes you see whats out..whats behind the masks. Makes you wonder.. The people you see around you, you never know whats going on deep down inside. Awesome song, awesome band.
This song is sooooo damn trueeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
raised by tv sets\ as long as we smile
This song changed how I perceive people's family photos.
Me too.
Cause is any family actually perfect?
This song, this video, just really hurts. I never really went through that but this song reminds me that just because a kid isn't horribly beaten, starved, and raped by their parents does not mean they aren't abused and hurt....
This song speaks volumes
Well yeah, max.
Also this album IS a perfect album. Every song is gold.
Na dude. Blackwater Park is the only real perfect album.
Since a teenager I liked this song.. The beat to the words and the images my God.. To heartfelt. Thought I'll share this.
gotta give mad props for the song the video and the message. all three are really good and probably more true than a lot of people think.
I don't know why but I love this song can relate in so many ways...rock on
We are still here
This version beats the spotify version hands down! Oh the nostalgia on this one.
Going back through old bands and reading these comments makes me wanna go back
STILL kicking ass in 2018!
2021
To everyone out there in ANY kind of situation like this your not alone. I know what its like it sucks and it ruins your life. This happens to so many pple and not many make it out of it. My moms BF beat me for two years and she finally dumped him. They are together again, but i refuse to go near him because im scared he will have at me again. Ever since my sisters arrived, i was nothing. I was beaten for being there. BUt to be honest, it makes a stronger person.
It will forever slay!
this song gets my adrenaline pumping. ❤
I remember watching this on MTV when it came out. It would be this and One Armed Scissor played at least twice an hour each. Everytime this one came on it made me think how lucky I was that my parents werent as bad as other kids. Trust me I was punished pretty hard, but it could have been so much worse and I feel sorry for anyone who had to go through anything like this.
Omg I remember listening to this over and over on my mp3 player when I was 13 or 14. Shout out to limewire for the music and crashed computers.
Amen
Awesome band 🤘🏾🤘🏾
Smile Empty Soul is a LEGENDARY band in my opinion
These guys have saved me.
SierraRS92 same here...
Me too.
It definitely hits home it did then and does now
this song is one of the truest songs out there!
I think their music was too real for most people. :)
THIS BAND IS AWSOME....
Yupppp
2019 and still love this band
this song a video are masterpieces.
This band is so underrated
Man this brings me back.....these guys were too underrated 🤘
Still underrated still playing :)
This is one of the hardest openings to a song from the new millennium
This hits so different now that I’m reaching 30 with my own children.. we’re a whole generation that will never let our kids feel/suffer this way
I can't listen to this song loud enough.
Songs like this make me appreciate how good my own family was to me.
Love this, totally forgot them, take me back to my childhood.Gracias por la misica!!!
I been listening to this band since 07.... I was 7 years old.... 😮
I've just started listening to their music and they ate amazing I don't like a lot of music but I love theirs!!! 😄😆❤💖💕
f****** amazingly underrated song.!!! out of all the s*** today that gets popular, this Still isn't majorly acknowledged.
Put this version on spotify please !!
I think some of these "kids" on here have the wrong idea about what this song really means. It is about rising up out of an abusive home and a home where too much is expected of you, a home where they wont let you live a little. It is not about rebelling against the parents who gave you everything and spoiled you.
we are the people that you hate.. we are the bastards that you created i love this song so much
Hate? For years I thought he said we are the people you made
@@jayj458 I thought for years he said we are the bastards that you breeded instead of created
I miss this band
I kinda miss this band
You ever have that feeling when your listening to a new band that genuinely has an awesome vibe to them
And then you find out that tragic truth that they never got far and don’t exist anymore
These guys unfortunately fall into that category this song is sick
Sean still tours and puts on a good show and they play this song at most shows
2022 and it’s still a favorite track and band. #true90skid 🤘🤘 …🖕to the pc culture
WE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT YOU HATE !
SMILE EMPTY SOUL RULES !
This song is pretty harsh and true. We all have been living lies!
Yes, you have. LiLo.
lilo 86 don't start lol
Still underrated :(
Just too real for radio play
I here on my radio but not enough as it deserves
You are lucky you are realizing this early on. I was too scared myself/lacked any clue, and I'm still very clueless at age 22. I have my own place but it's a struggle to hold onto, there aren't many jobs available at the moment here in the states.
As soon as I saw the priest I thought, "Yup, that's a kiddie diddler right there!" Glad to see the trope's still alive and kicking:)
An unofficial anthem for us millennials
First heard this song in 7th grade my dad was on drugs and we lived in a small two bed room apt in a sketchy apt complex (not the worst but not the best either) with my dads gf and my two older brothers. It sucked on the inside but on the outside my brothers and I had each had friends that lived in neighborhoods near by and because when my dad would get high he didn’t care where we were or how long we were gone so delt with shit that came with a father on drugs but at the same time got to be free as well.
"and what did you expect ... a perfect child?"
Who’s listening in 2020? Antiviral music here my friends.
Here!
Still fighting onward in 2021 👊
This shit helped me through 2000s
Yoyo!
2022
This is actually a good band. I don't know why thay are so underrated
My jam oh my oh my
Still listening 👂 2020‼️🤘🤘🤘🤘
I love this song, it compares so well to so many people's lives, and it's so true.
One thing I wanna say, though, is that I think it would have been more dramatic if they didn't use stills, especially when the parents were locking that girl in the room. I think it would be a lot more moving if she were actually kicking and screaming and crying to get out.
The bass line of this song is amazing, yet I don't see anyone on youtube making a bass cover of this song :( only shows that only the mainstream bands with shitty basslines and guitar riffs get the attention, but great bands like these are always under-rated grr..... when I get my bass guitar, I wanna learn this song :D
Why can't Smile Empty Soul have the same edge as there old stuff. Not to mention there old stuff was so deep.
This is my favorite band when people say who is your favorite band I say smile empty soul & their like who & it makes me sad
This song & Silhouettes meant so much to me
Love them bc there kinda Depressing
Sean is one of the most humble Rockstars on the planet the dude is awesome to talk to and he never looks down anyone absolutely amazing band I love you guys
This song made me give life a full send "Semper Fidelis"
To all the TTIS surviors. I see you.
best band who makes how children feel into songs
This song reminded me of the people of Yemen this morning. Long may they live. Yemen Fights For FReedom!

Music video definitely gets to you, whether you came from a broken home or didn't.
I felt a nowhere kid is a kid going nowhere in their life which I felt was me since I struggled alot in school.
I always loved the song, I named my band after this song
I feel like I'm a freshman in high school again. Hold on, lemme grab my JNCOs.
