The old man is Empreror Valkorion. Leader of the zakuul empire in the wild space. Former Sith Emperor Vitiates spirit inhabited Valkorions body and they started to vanish both sith and jedi when they fell in in the rest of the galaxy. Originally they use the abilities of both light and dark side but Valkorion turned full dark side because it was basically Vitiate now also known as Tenebrae so they ended up starting a war with the republic and sith empire at the same time and that pretty efficiently.

Honestly SWTOR as a game is fun singleplayer experience for an MMORPG so I would give it a go if you are thinking about it. I honestly think in terms of writing it is one of the last games that feels like an old bioware writing which is pretty great. Also, yes the girl is a sister of the two brothers. About your comments regarding the capabilities of the Force users and the difference between the abilities of the movie characters and the old republic characters a quote has come to my mind from Knights of the Old Republic 2:
"If you were to face an ancient Sith Lord in combat, you would learn that we are as children playing with toys compared to the prowess of the old masters.” - Kreia

It's more that the movies were limited by the tech and human factor of their time.
These trailers all being cgi let's them do crazy stuff that just isn't doable in movies without obscene budgets.
Vader and sidious are easily as strong as the likes of malgus. Heck vader is even more disabled than malgus and is still more powerful.
Overall I'd say that since both sides of the force had an active empire fighting against each other, you could say your average jedi and sith were stronger back then. Old republic times were times of genuine war, and that made your average jedi and sith warriors. Hence the armor being worn by jedi instead of full robes.
But the cream of the crop on both sides is gonna even out and be around the same level as the best of the best in vader/anakins time.

It's nice to see another Star Wars fan with knowledge of the Old Republic and Expanded Universe appreciating these amazing cinematics! 😄
Also, I agree that the Old Republic stuff definitely seems more high-impact and intense. Which makes sense if you keep in mind that what we're watching is literally a war between the Republic & Jedi and the Sith Empire.
    Some fun facts for you:
-The Droideka-looking droids are actually precursors to the modern Droideka, and are made by the same species, the Colicoids.
-Green lightsabers are typically (though not always) associated with Jedi Consulars, who focus more on mastery of the force than mastery of lightsaber combat.
--Satele Shan (the Jedi wielding the double-bladed blue lightsaber) is a descendant of Bastila Shan and Revan, who were in the Knights of the Old Republic game.
-You're right about rarely seeing Twi'lek Sith, especially Lethan (red) ones, though they do seem to be the most common, likely for stylistic purposes. The only ones I specifically know the names of are Alora from the game Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, and Darth Talon, from the Legacy Era. If you're interested, I highly recommend checking out the Legacy Era, as it's a fascinating part of Expanded Universe content.
-The dudes in black and white are Thexan and Arcann, respectively. They are the sons of the guy with a beard, Valkorion, also known as Darth Vitiate, or Tenebrae. He's actually an ancient dark side entity/spirit that acted as the Sith Emperor, but then ditched the Sith and formed his own Empire, the Eternal Empire of Zakuul. Using advanced technology in tandem with the Force, they fought and almost defeated both the Sith and the Republic at the same time, forcing the two former enemies to briefly join forces. If you find this stuff interesting, I encourage you to read about them on the Wookiee-wiki. The Eternal Empire was steeped in the dark side of the force, and Valkorion refused to acknowledge his sons until he felt they were worthy, and truly embraced the dark side. Arcann proved himself when he accidentally killed his beloved twin brother Thexan in a fit of rage while attempting to murder his father. He later succeeded his father as Emperor. The stuff in this cinematic took place towards the end of the war between the Republic and the Sith that was seen in the previous cinematics.
    starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Tenebrae
    starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Eternal_Empire
Sorry for the wall of text, just very passionate about Star Wars, particularly Expanded Universe content. 😅

38:20 The interconnected story is the war itself. Your class determines your role in the war/story. It’s kind of like in Dragon Age Origins, each class/race has its own origin story-but this expands to the whole game instead. There are 8 main story missions depending on your class. These paths converge and diverge in parts of the story but your character is unique to the other classes. Eventually all stories converge by the time of Shadow of Revan, with different flavors and outcomes depending on your Class Story Outcome.

the last trailer, Malgus didn't lie. he was definitely emphasizing the machine's use to plant the seed of doubt, which worked. it almost seemed like he cared, but really that machine was his key to building up a Sith Army of acolytes by taking all other force users, regardless of connection strength. no one denied the purpose of the machine

not sith. At this point he is no longer Sith but a dark side user. He has left the Sith behind although he still uses some of their teachings he has "evolved" beyond the Sith teachings and really doesn't care if you are light side or dark side as long as your goals are in line with what he wants. He hates the Sith as much as the Jedi at this point and would see them fall the same as the Jedi.

Malgus is just a inclusive badass he doesn't care about purity or how you're useful only that you're useful. He prefers aliens often times because of their honor. He doesn't care who you are plus he respects strength regardless of what form it takes. Are you a brilliant tactician and a wookie he wouldn't care, are you a brilliant scientist and a twi'lek it doesn't matter. He only cares that you qualify for the job. He hates repression and as such believes everyone deserves a chance to forge their own place in the galaxy. that's especially true here in the last trailer as he wants to teach all force users regardless of strength the ways of the force.

Even though its an MMO I basically only played SWTOR as a single player experience. There are 8 total class stories (4 republic and 4 sith/empire) and all of them are super unique and engaging (some more than others ofc, personally I think the writing is better on the sith side). Worth a try! Also has great characters. Each of the 8 classes have 5 unique companions. BioWare has always been great at storytelling and making engaging characters/companions (see their other games for proof of that) and that's no different here

    • @dwell7315
      @dwell7315 Год назад +4

honestly the replayability of SWTOR is one of my favorite things about it. 8 classes, which can have wildly different feels depending on both gender (more for companion stories than main class stories, to be fair) and alignment, and whose major decisions do impact the story of the future endgame (especially post KOTET). Watching all the compilations of differing content based on all sorts of decisions made beforehand is kind of insane. I know most of the player base still wishes endgame story content was divided by class and not all one story, but I really like what little class-based differences there are

The old man is named Vitiate (he uses other names but that's the one listed with his pic on fandom, I think he actually goes by "Valkorion" in this sequence), he is a self-proclaimed Sith-Emperor and was added in "The Eternal Throne" expansion. The twin boys are Arcann (white) and Thexan (Black), they are the brothers of the girl Vaylin (I'm presuming they're older, because in the flash back she looks about 5-7 and they look 10-12), and the woman is their mother, Senya Tirall...

Being able to catch a lightsaber with your bare hands is an application of tutaminis, or force absorption. It's what Yoda uses to absorb force lightning and also what Vader uses to block Han Solo's blaster with his bare hand in Episode V. It's a basic power that all Jedi are trained in early on, but possessing such mastery of it that you're able to absorb the energy from a lightsaber is incredibly rare.

By the time of the final trailer you watched, Malgus had parted ways with the Sith order, IIRC. He's still Dark Sider, but no longer associates himself with the Empire. This disassociation is presumably why he can use the Jedi Holocron, since he allows himself to tap into whatever side of the Force he pleases.
Never got to play the latest updates, but we could probably guess that he wants to start his own Order using the children the Jedi and Sith left behind.

For example Malgus having switched his masters blade around to an inverted grip while jumping through that exploding piece of machinery to surprise Kao in the first trailer, or Malgus' blade crumbling between the pressure of him trying to impale Satele and her holding it off with the force in the second trailer or even making Senyas fight a one take action sequence. These details they didn't need to include or choreograph but they did for the pure enjoyment of making great content.
Disney has the money to make quality animated content like these trailers but would rather blow millions on shit like She Hulk and Boba Fett.

  • @jinglesbejankin7322

I like that in the Disorder trailer for SWTOR they add a tiny nod towards Malgus having tunnel vision. At one point Malgus was thrown through a mountain by Satele Shan. We know from the comics and whatnot that his bones were broken and his organs mostly liquified. But he survived. So it's entirely reasonable to assume he just doesn't have proper feeling in most of his body.
It's funny to consider this when you see him be disarmed off his off-hand lightsaber and not realize it until the hilt flies past his vision. He then looks down at his empty hand and tries to grapple with it now that he realizes he's disarmed.

I am a huge Star Wars fan and when SWTOR launched, I was hooked. Something this game does that most don't is that they have 8 separate class story lines in addition to the main story and side quests. You feel more immersed in the game.
Also, you can choose light or dark side options and can go fully light or dark or even be neutral. I ran my Sage healer as dark side and it was fun as heck!
I love that there are main classes with multiple specs. For example, the Consular/Inquisitor class are clothies but they can heal, dps and tank depending on what spec you choose. You can also select a second class so for example, my Sage healer can switch to Jedi Guardian. :)
Another thing is that they have story mode so that if you want to run a dungeon but can't or don't want to get into a group, you can run it that way. The new ones you have to at least run in story mode to progress through the story.
Overall, lots of fun and I've rerolled toons countless times as the starting areas and stories are really good.

My immediate reaction the first time I saw these cutscenes back when I played SWTOR was, "Why can't they do a show like this?!" Sure, animating an entire movie or series like that would cost a lot, but surely not as much as live-action with actor salaries? They could do so much more with animation, too.

The 2 trailers after Deceived focus on Eternal Empire of Zakuul. The first trailer is about Arcann and Thexann, the second trailer is about Vaylin who is the younger sister of the twins. The old man is Valkorion, fka Darth Vitiate, the Sith Empire and the woman rescuing the bald girl is the mother of all 3 her name is Senya. The 2 trailers are about the Eternal Empire of Zakuul which is an entirely new faction that is opposed to both the Republic and the Jedi as well as the Empire and the Sith

  • @redshirt49
    @redshirt49 Год назад

Yeah, the faction with the twins is separate from the Jedi and the Sith (sort of), in that's an Empire built in secret by the reclusive Sith Emperor as something of an experiment or backup plan. His governing approach was different (he was viewed as a benevolent and fair protector) and their force users were trained differently (emphasising duty and justice and the like but still trained more brutally than Jedi).
When he felt the time was right, he set it loose on the weakened Empire and Republic, conquering both in a very short time.
Vaylin is also an interesting character in that she's very strong in the force but unhinged, it only works when she's pissed off, is unstable at the best of times and she's also got average ability at best when it comes to lightsaber skills, which is why she gets her ass handed to her by her mother (who is a master duelist) and why she's subservient to her brother.

Sooo the guy is Darth Vitiate - After the Galactic Republic won the "Great Hyperspace War" he took control over the Sith and ordered to retreat from the Republic after the Second battle of Korriban. He became the first Sith Emperor after they retreated to a new world - Dromund Kaas and he founded the Dark Counsil to oversee the Sith and plan the revenge. Some things happened (will not go further into detail because its fun to find out yourself) - He later found a way to transport himself back in time and took control over Zakuul, where he wanted to build the "perfect" society - which later fought both Sith and Jedi. He also changed his name to Valkorion and started a family - his sons: the twins in the video are Arcann (dressed in white) and Thexan (dressed in black). :D Hope that helps.

To me there are one of two reasons malgus killed the other sith. He either saw him losing his arm and struggling as him being weak and so he culled him since there are many who could take his place. The other reason could be because he is competition and this was the perfect chance to get rid of him. Seeing as the guy didn't have the basic helmet he probably was above the lesser sith malgus typically fights with.

Malgus before this incidence was called the false emperor as the epilogue of Illum after all your class story you will have to fight him and he will go missing and return again as an enforcer mind controlled slave of the empire that is why in the final scene before he leaves he said "Break free" since he saw how the twilek jedi was nothing but a slave to the jedi like him with the sith nothing but puppets in a game.

The game has amazing story, 8 separate legacy stories from lvl 1-50. And after that a joined story up to lvl 80. (Unless they've added lvls since I last played). Worth playing all of that just for the story. If you happen to like the gameplay as well, you can get a lot of fun out off that game. I've played for almost 1500 hours. On and off for many, many years. I come back with every expansion and sometimes in between just cause I miss the game lol.

So some minor spoilers to help you:
The Padawan in the first and second trailer is Satele Shan.
She was a extremely gifted Individual with a grand connection to the Force, as such she was paired alongside one of the Jedi’s most senior masters as well as their greatest Sabre duellist.
By the 2nd trailer which takes place I think 10-15 years into the 1st Great Galactic War (also known as the 1st Sith-Republic war) she was a Jedi Master and would not long after go onto become Grand Master of the Jedi Order (Yoda’s position)
The Sith Apprentice Malagus as you saw became very much her rival and would go onto become a Darth by the end of the war. One of his great achievements was the raid on Corresant at the end of the war.
    - essentially both the Republic and Sith had bled themselves hard across 20 years and as such began forming what was essentially a “peace agreement/cease fire”. The Sith being slightly on the back foot due to a couple recent losses, decided that while the talks were ongoing, they would raid corresant. Raiding and holding it, they strengthened their bargaining chips to essentially gain several outer rim world as there for handing Corresant back.
To those like Malagus it was an insult of an idea but to others it was better to earn holdable territory.
Slightly bigger spoiler. By the time of the Deceived trailer, Malagus no longer is apart of the Sith Empire. Having watched its cancerous rot from the inside and having watched many of his fellow Sith make an almost mockery of the Sith Code and ways, he betrayed the Empire to found his own. However, it would be defeated by a coalition of Sith and Republic Forces.
This is why in Deceived he kills the Sith warrior and why they refer to him as Traitor.
By this point Malagus shares no love for the Sith or Jedi orders, he still lives fully by the Sith Code and interestingly his “followers” are primarily made up of the outcasts and “lessers” saw people of both the Jedi and Sith who have become disillusioned by both sides.
The third faction you see on trailers 4 and 5 is the Eternal Empire. Founded by Valkorion (who had a very interesting backstory I won’t spoil) he would raise both his sons and daughter to fight both the Republic and Empire.
As you saw in the trailer 4, he showed little favour or praise to the brothers Arcann (white) and Thexan (black). He essentially wanted to see which of the two would become the strongest between them and in the end, we see that Arcann having fallen to emotion and rage proved the stronger of the two.
As for the daughter he didn’t actually know she was force sensitive until that moment in training arena. From there he took “personal” control over her training.
As for the woman. She was Valkorians concubine and mother too all 3. Valkorian took personal tutelage of the lads as he knew they were force sensitive and on seeing how he treated them, the woman attempted to hide their daughters force ability to allow her a more peaceful life. However such failed and she was essentially put in a form of “exile” from his palace.
I’d highly recommend playing the game mate (it’s free to download) and there are 8 class storylines (4 on each side) that are amazing and fun to play through with consequences in many actually mattering.
Plus you can choose to play as both a light sided person or dark sided person with responses and actions throughout (so in many ways you can actually play each storyline twice 1 lightsided version and 1 dark sided version).
I’ve personally played the Republic Trooper story (fun. Pretty much your everyday soldier esque storyline but with some fun character to it, fun lines and plenty of kicking Imperial arse)
Imperial Agent (probably my favourite and one of the favourite of the community. Agent/spy like storyline with many fun twists and turns and some very fun characters. Plus, a lot of flexibility if you want to play either hardliner, double agent or even just moderate empire or f’u empire. Tho personally I find the hardline imperial quite fun which I done. So many fun executions to partake in.)
Jedi Guardian (have just started this one and it’s quite interesting. Also am playing this one with a lean towards dark side actions.)

The force is also vexing to use, it's like how you can't run forever or hold heavy things for a long period and like bodily feats you have constantly hone it.
But still I agree, I think during the movie era a lot of knowledge and teachings about the force was lost or restricted and the Jedi never bothered to travel the galaxy to broaden their horizons about the force because like Madame Jocasta Nu said: "If it's not in the archives, it doesn't exist."

Yeah, Old Republic is by far my favorite era of Star Wars. It basically takes everything we love about Star Wars, and tunes it up to 11. It's so nice. And the game does something I haven't seen in any other game really, with how it handles RPG elements. They cater the story around the class you pick, so each one has its own story, which allows you to be truly evil (or truly good, even as a Sith, which is also really nice to see because it's its own unique concept). Most other games have a story where you're the good guy even if you do terrible shit, you're ultimately working towards a goal to beat the big bad. But not in SWTOR. Each class campaign is catered around who you are. The expansions ultimately set up that same trope, but the fact you can go dozens upon dozens of hours playing the legitimate bad guy is just such a unique concept. And giving us the choice of what we want to do in the story just makes everything so much better. Most of the class campaigns are just so fun to play with, no matter what route you go. Playing an LS Consular is straight up exactly how I would want to be a Jedi in real life, and Nolan North does a great job at his voice acting there.
Darth Malgus is one of my favorite Sith in the entire franchise. These trailers portray his lightsaber skills so well, as a martial enthusiast he utilizes so many cool tactics you barely see in entertainment itself. He knows how to trick, he knows how to feign. Man is a brilliant mind on the battlefield, and pair that with just how insanely huge he is and how he is unnaturally fast for his size, he's a literal powerhouse of a Sith. His very attacks are enough to off-balance most of his opponents, which always puts him in an advantageous position.

  • @lnwyardee3809

The deception in the Deceived trailer is that the Sith Empire were winning the war post resurgence, that you saw in the two previous trailers. The Sith offered the Republic peace, and they accepted. And when they were away discussing peace terms on Alderaan iirc, the Sith attacked and sacked Coruscant in a surprise attack. And presumably got even better terms.
The game SWTOR, picks up after that. I believe 8-13 years later and most of the story is that the Sith and Republic are fighting a proxy war through militias and rebellions across multiple planets that you travel to while building up to another galactic war.

MMO SWTOR is really friendly for single player stuff nowadays. Even without subscribing you could slide thru [each class has their own story even voiced!] without paying. If you do get credits imo one of the best things to purchase first is teleport to ship and rocket boots. Best class stories for 1-50 is probably, Sith Warrior, Jedi Knight, Smuggler, and Bounty Hunter. Agent is up there too.
