Love watching Athena come along! I think we need an ASMR episode of sail life.
Your attention to detail is unmatched by anyone I’ve ever seen. There are those that may be more experienced and do incredible refits. But the devil is in the details. Excellent work Mads.
Mads, you must be best friends with every postman in Denmark by now. And you might even save PostNord single-handed. Rock on!
My favorite activity every Sunday. Wait for Sail Life upload and walking to corner store to grab a beer to enjoy while watching Sail Life. And sometimes blessed when “Ran Sailing” comes out on Sunday also. Sometimes just watch both channels twice
Ava - You now know the perfect birthday/Christmas present SANDPAPER !
Mads, New Subscriber, just found you last week. Amazed at how you have most all the American speech idioms in perfect context, a Tough One for someone to whom English is not their primary language. What caught my attention was how you do Repairs like ME, BETTER Than Factory or Tear It Out and Do It AGAIN. Like you, I wonder WTF is UP with the so-called Limber Holes in Athena! They MUST have been HIGH to neglect such a Critical Detail. GRRRRRR! I am a lifelong Sailboat fan, but only Sailed aboard a Nimitz-class Carrier so far. Looking at a Fixer-Upper of my own. BTW, Ava is SUPER, for a Skinny Girl. No Mere Decoration THERE! I saw Courage in those lovely eyes, I think SHE will Stand Beside You in the North Atlantic when the wind Screams. Put a Lifeline on her, and Epoxy It to the deck, so she can't get away,Lol.
Mads is the best. For those of us who have never glassed and were afraid to try....you have been a great inspiration to us. I can see it's not near as much a mystery as I thought. Thanks for identifying much of the products you use, wow so great. If I were there I would gladly do some of the dreaded "donkey" work just to learn from you. You are the best my video friend. Thanks.
Your box opening sequences are the best.
Jetzt hast du Werkzeug und Schmirgelpapier um selbst eine Reparatur- Werft zu eröffnen!
👍 Sehr gut, danke!
Your attention to detail is amazing.
Mads since I am working on my boat myself I really enjoy your videos I can get alot of good ideas from the work you are doing.
Thanks much.
Youre getting to be quite the artist / craftsman with fiberglass, I remember when you first started messing with the stuff, great work on the hatch!! better than factory!
Mads, if patching the last hole in a boat isn't a milestone what is? Those sealed openings are what keep your boat healthy and ultimately from sinking :) Congratulations! Here is something I wanted to say for a while now: Your positive attitude is super inspiring. Thanks for that!
Always enjoy!
(And your box opening procedure always makes me smile.)
Wowsers... I've watched all 89 videos in just 3 days... woot! Absolutely loving this series, and I don't sail, but I'm sub'd for the interesting content and the interesting personality... (plus, being a fan of AvE doesn't hurt either, just waiting to see this sail boat chuch...)
'screaming for the hills' - don't worry Mads, there aren't many of those in Denmark are there!
A 22 min Mads video goes by so quick. Looking forward to next week.
Remember when Ava sees your boat and “runs for the hills”,Ejer , highest mole hill in Kongeriget Danmark, is only 170 meters high , so no worries. She will hardly be out of breath . Enjoy your vids / instruction as usual
Thank you for this week's video. I look forward to the next one.
Another great update. Those tools are interesting and never seen them before. Hmmm. See you.... next week
That opening in the deck at 10:53 would make a glorious, glorious POOP deck...just add a toilet seat!
Excellent solution on the cockpit hatch.
"You get what you pay for" with Wichard hardware. Expensive... but well made.
yep it's Sunday made my day great work Skipper.
Hand sanding, belt sanding, random orbit sanding! The glorious, glorious sanding triumvirate!
This is gonna be one hella nice boat once it's done. Damn! Nice work.
Always love your videos because of your cheerful determination. However, you need a theme song!
What lakes in Denmark?
Yes, you are an inspiration to all DIY boatfixers.
Mads, I was told to always turn the hasp upside down so if it shuts while you are inside. It can't flip over the loop and trap anyone! Cheers!
Ta--da! The sound Mads made when revealing his "dingy" to Ava for the first time. ;)
Ha ha ha ha......
HAHAHAHAHA
Wait till he reveals his caulk!!
Hahahhahahahhahahaha
Kinda gross guys... Let's try to keep this channel just a bit more classy
The new belt sander keeps making appearances in your vids, it has certainly been useful in your endeavors.
Mads your patience is envied.
Another great video. I never get to work with Fibre glass and I doubt I will ever do a project like this but it is still so nice to watch and its it suprisingly addictive as I have watched most if not all of them now. Great stuff. Keep up the great work. Love it.
Wow Mads! That hatch is going to look amazing! Great job, your work is very professional. You are giving Andy, fm Boatworkstoday, a run for his money. As always, outstanding video, I can't wait to see Athena dipped in the water... I will probably shed a few tears and drink a few beers for you, when that day comes.
I greatly admire you Mads. yesterday I spent my all day scraping and sanding the frames around my acrylic glasses on the cabin top in order to remove the old sikaflex. It was exhausting and there were moments when I seriously thought to give up, but then thinking about what you have done and achieved so far gave me some additional strengh in order to complete the job. Thanks a million Mads, really!!! Let's go and make some glorious sanding! thanks again Mads!
Hinckley yachts called with a job offer!!!
very good work there, Mads
Mads - before you bolt your new fancy Wichard mounting points in - make sure your harness engages properly and easily - sometimes with the new harness hook types - they don't engage properly
The best warrior in the world it’s going to be
As always very detailed, super interesting video. Thank you
Another great video, definitely my favourite channel on youtube, followed closely by driftwood boat blog but they do have the advantage of being on the same cruising area as myself.
2:28 "I've also 'tidied up' a little bit 'down below' because when Ava gets here and sees [...] for the first time ever in real life, I don't want her to run screaming for the hills." -Mads
Very, very nice work! GOD bless. JC
Thank you Mads
Spiffiness level 10 out of 10!
The best... well done sir!!!
Nice job Mads. Strange thing is the feed shows 205 comments yet I cannot see any. Mmmm. Thanks for sharing & regards from the UK
You're doing a fantastic job! I tried some of that sanding net on my orbital sander for the first time on my own project today, and it felt a lot more efficiant than normal paper of the same grain size. Going to get more of it tomorrow.
Great job as always.
Thank you for another great video!
Great job Mads, I started watching your vids about a year ago, and it's always a joy to follow the weekly update on your project and it's progress on sunday evenings (from sweden).
Oh Mads having had the pleasure of sanding 40 years of crap off the inside of my 30 foot GRP fishing boat to re frame and bulkhead her I understand how itchy the GRP sanding experience is although I did find the 3M disposable overalls a godsend, they even have a hood
Thanks Mads. I really appreciate your videos especially now that it looks like I am close to getting a boat of my own!
Love the videos. They provide inspiration!
Great result on hatch, super strong and no edges to catch you or any equipment as you pull it out. Won't be long before the whole deck and cockpit is in primer, it will look super, super spiffy. Andy UK
I wish you'd teach me that snap cleanup method!
Every kid in the world wants to know...lost to history...lol
Great work with the hatch👍
When my dad was around my age, he managed to score at a factory auction (faulty products or over stocking). The product was sand paper. And yes, 60 years (combined) later, we still use from that batch. IN short, you can never have enough. We've built 3 houses on this stuff and i'm probably going to have enough to last me until i'm in my 40s.
My house needs a tidy up so I went around clicking my fingers at everything and I can't get that technique right! I did one click and the dog came barreling in and knocked over a rubbish box so it's now worse! Interested to know the moisture content of the hull and I guess you will leave the glassing until near the end of Summer. Another great vid, keep them coming!
I never miss watching your videos and though I will probably never refit any kind of boat I gain a lot of technique that flows over to my woodworking and other projects. Thanks, my Danish friend, I'm 3/4 Danish myself. MorFar and MorMor and FarMor made that possible.
Enjoyed your video as always. However, I think you should reconsider your choice for the padeyes. Apart from the possible rattle in rough seas (I've once even seen them taped for this very reason) they might cause, if you need to clip in in high seas you have but one hand to do so. A fixed U-bolt is far more practical in rough situations than a pad-eye which always needs to be lifted to be used.
Yes my sunday is complete 👍
Taking the time to foam in that hatch opening is the sign of a real perfectionist. Way to go!
This is one of the best videos you have made so far I have been following for about a year now! This really illustrated how to reinforce and glass in a strangely shaped piece into Athena. Also like the constant abject reviews of products and tools.
Do you enjoy working with fiberglass more than wood? Do you ever wish that you had purchased a wooden boat?
I know wood is nowhere near as durable or forgiving which do you think is cheaper? I live in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon) so lumber is somewhat more available.
great stuff mate, keep up the good work.
I hope that every time you are sanding glass or foam you wear a mask...keep up your great work & thanks for the effort of great videos
Sand paper is the consumable equivalent of clamps....you need more. Whatever you think you need, add more.
Great video, thank you..
I really do look forward to these videos each Sunday. With the hot shed you are working in have you checked the moisture level in your keel lately? I know you wanted it completely dry before working on it. Hi Ava.
Wow ! You have definitely found your new career. In making fabulous DYI videos. You may buy a bigger boat to work on by the time you finish Athena. Third boat is a "Charm" Cheers
Always a good day when you upload a video.
Oh wow, nice cliff hanger.
Another nice video Mads.
Hi Mads, I'm not sure but I've watched all the video's up to here, is there any more or am i up to date?
Great job, loving the Journey of restoration Athena.
Yes, now i understand re the fairing on deck .
A good one.
Another; enjoyable video, but I must say that the 22 minutes went by wayyyyyy too quickly.
Great content as always Mads keep up the work she's going to be a beauty when your done
Good some inspiration to get me into the garage today......Thanks
Really terrific video
Glorious, glorious sanding! Lol!!
great video, I like the improved hatch!
as always... nice work! great eye for detail man. wanna get one of the Leopards that are selling cheap from the hurricane? Nothing like a million dollar boat that needs total rebuild.
Mads, if sanding and fairing fiberglass is your MOST favorite thing to do and you don’t know what else could take it’s place..... call me, I have some suggestions!
What we like about your vids Mad's is you plan things through and think about the way you are going to do things. Oh and the sanding, glourous sanding! If you have the time check out our vid on davits and your see how we think alike. There is a reference to you BTW and sanding LOL. If a jobs worth doing its worth doing well. The satisfaction of a job well done, outlasts the satisfaction of a job done cheaply. LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR NEXT !!! Ant & Cid xx
thanks
Awesome progress and then.... wait till next episode! Such a tease...
Mads I want you to know I'm getting tools and attacking jobs on the homestead. You are fearless and are learning as you go. That is a huge inspiration for me. Chicks love storage so have a good cabinet plan for the interior of ATHENA. Also how did the fuel tank for Athena looked?
There's no sandpaper like more sandpaper!
Mads, I often find myself wanting to look back at the videos that specifically deal with trying out new tools/products you've bought or tried. Is there a "master list" of videos matched with what tools are "reviewed" in them?
jeremyrainman Synchronicity, I was going to ask for a list of tools and materials, too!
Yes please!
That’s so spooky, as I was watching this I thought I wonder if Mads would be up for a review video of the tools and materials he has used so far, the hive mind?. Vote…
Div3r i second this.
I third the tools master class
Nice work this week!
Another great video Mads! Do you think we could get some more Jökull cameo appearances now and then? I miss him. :(
I hate the sharpe edges left by most boat manufacturers, good job fixing those.👍
#sundayfunday!!!!!
The auto body repair industry has an air driven long board to keep workers from getting inflammation of the bursa. Have you considered super glueing 50 grit paper to the blade of our reciprocating tool to avoid finger strain where you can't fit your orbital sander? Lots of boat guys complain about caulk failing. Is there any caulk one can have faith in?
cool
When grinding fiberglass if you first cover youreself in baby powder it fills in youre poors so glass wont stick in you as bad. Then after grinding rinse with cold water before you take a hot shower. It works
Mads, what was the issue with the other boat when the owner arrived? as always, great video!
I would like to see this when you are done. My cockpit locker leaks like a sieve from rain water. How will you keep the rain out? It has been a continual source of distress.
superb
Great video Madds what’s your day job?
Mark Dell I believe he's a programmer, though I don't know the specifics.
