We could then begin suggesting and pushing for solutions and reforms. We are in dire need, for example, of a threat assessment procedure and process for inpatient detainment far beyond what we currently have in this country. To do this, we need to look at all the facts, design and then demand a solution. Simply pointing the finger is a total waste of time.

Yes seriously! The point is to wait to gather the facts before assuming, assigning blame and saying what others “should do or not do” or repeating one line simplistic answers. For example, the story indicates that the father was violent and that the mother “fled.” Did the first incident involve this kid shooting the father to defend his mother, self and other brother? I have seen a number of young men sentenced to excessive terms after their mother has basically put them in the position of defending her and younger brothers and sisters.
Many many facts and questions not answered in this far too brief sensational clickbait.
Part of the problem here is how one of the presenters on the newscast is presenting the story - her opinion instead of facts that we can build solutions to demand out of lawmakers.

Grandma had escaped to Key West because she was scared of him. Lots of violent outbursts before this one and he had already threatened to kill mom before. Mom followed him to grandmas house to get him to move back home. That angered him and he “snapped.”

But the father was abusive. The mom fled from Oklahoma to get away from him. Idk what I'd do. Actually, if one of my sons told me he shot his dad in self-defense and I knew that he was in fact abusive, I'd believe my son.

What is wrong with Collin though? Why did a 15 year old kill his dad? Is this the violent dad?
Domestic violence reverberates through kids that witness it. No excuse but certainly there will be a reason he did this to both parents

The reason is that the boy is a psychopath and neither the father nor the mother opened their eyes in the meantime. They both lost their lives. If this boy had shot up a school and killed other children and teachers, the parents would be in prison, but the boy went first for his own parents.

@@euridisisorellana9844 So well said! Too many people find it too scary to contemplate that yes, a child can be born a psychopath. They look for things the mother and father did to perpetuate the crime. Many times these psycho kids have perfectly normal brothers or sisters. Anyone willing to be educated on this subject needs only to watch several episodes of "Evil Lives Here" about true life psychopathic kids and adults told through the lens of brothers, sisters, parents, other relatives and friends. The families literally could not stop these killer kids.

This is so heartbreaking, for the victims of his crimes. I'm appalled, and agree he's a psychopath and can never be released. My mind is blown. I cannot imagine the suffering of his parents and extended family.

Parents with psychopatic children are not helped. They suffer alone, although I did hear of one woman who got help, and eventually, her son is now able to feel and behave normally. But he's an adult now, and this is after years of therapy. If they didn't lock him up they should have placed him in a facility. But this really isn't available...
