    he was 5-10 without shoes 165pounder playing amongst the giants and retired with a hall of fame career. 4 time scoring champ, 2 time steal champ, 2 time all stars MVP, Multiple all NBA first seconds and third team selection in his 14 year career in the NBA and most importantly, he was the MVP in 2001 carrying his basically a D-League team to the finals, actually taking a game away from that mighty 2000-01 Lakers.

    I walked by him in a mall in ATL once. He’s TINY. I’m 6’3” 200, played D2 Bball. Anyone his size I would expect I’d have an advantage in a matchup. Iverson is the most impressive MVP in league history to do it at his size. Totally dominating legends. Unbelievable. Just a shame he didn’t have a 2nd act late in his career as a 6th man for a champion.

    He was a great player but people forget there was a hole in his play. He could not finish with his left hand at the rim and this made him go right with his dribble most of the time. Defenders started to stop him going right by standing on his right side with distnace so all he could do was shoot over the defence. A great example of this is Bowen guarding him in 2003 in Spurs against Sixers.

    imo, there's no denying that Iverson was a ridiculous force of nature when he was on, unlike any other player. Unfortunately, I recall watching for every 35pt, 40pt+ games he had, there were dozens of games when he was going 7-27, 8-31, etc. Also, beginning in the late 90s, AI started the trend of crossover dribbles that were clearly palming and/or traveling that stopped being regularly called by the refs, which I think hurt the game then and especially in the decades since.
    And c'mon, AI being the captain of the 2004 USA team that only won Bronze, when he was just chucking up shots, has to be mentioned. The guy wasn't a great team player even when he was surrounded by the best.

    AI is a forgotten BAAAAD MOFO. He ruled his era (no offense to my Spurs, Dirk, and of course Kobe [a Top 10 all-time great]). It's so sad to only see former players speak AI's praise. Thanks, BTM for keeping his legacy alive. AI wasn't the biggest player on the court but played a game as BIG as anyone. AI was a PG instead of a SG (speaking of MJ) but his court dominance and court IQ was eerily similar to MJ's in MJ's first 4-5 seasons. He needed a really good mentor (like David Robinson or Dominque Wilkins) and he probably would have achieved so much more in the league and not gone "broke" afterward. AI was something truly special, so thankful to have seen his play in-person and on live TV. *Just had to add: AI was 'And 1' before they existed. The Professor, all of the guys, Pistol Pete originated it, AI rebirthed it. I would luv to have a time machine and see a starting 5 of Pistol, AI, Oscar Robinson, George Gervin, and David Robinson together, WHEW!!! The stadium would need to install seatbelts for that starting 5. Oscar and The Admiral could just play half court defense the entire game... the Iceman and AI/Pete could go offense against most teams 3 on 5. That would be a wild ride, so much talent & creativity and all 5 were stellar defensemen. All 5 could score lights out also, BEFORE the 3pt shot was a big part of the game (especially for Oscar & Gervin).

Even he has admitted he handled his career poorly, set the wrong example to the next generation and wishes he had listened to Larry Brown and been less selfish. He let the money amd the tattoos amd the flash and the other bullcrap literally derail his career. And it actually was the defining factor in him not winning a championship.

His attitude problems and unprofessionalism hurt the league and was the wrong example for the next generation of players. And don’t @ me. He has even stated this. On top of that, as much as he admires him now, he looks back and wishes he would have listened to Larry Brown. A.I. has really changed and I am impressed with how he matured after he retired. Pound for pound one of the best, most athletic players in NBA history. He was tough! I just wish he wouldn’t have been so selfish back then. Kobe started out with a similar attitude and people didn’t like him for a while in the beginning also. They wanted more players like Jordan who were not only gifted but, had the appearance of being humble.

    Favorite player ever. I hate false narrative that he was inefficient. Gotta look at the whole picture...
    UN-GUARDABLE, got hacked way more than normal. Lead league in FTA/gm multiple seasons (as high as 11.5/gm). If you trade even just half of those free throws, for 2 or 3 "MADE SHOTS" instead, then his career FG% jumps from 43%, to almost 50% (was 46% outside of Philly - with help).
    Ex, Look at what he did one game in '05 vs Orlando - He shot 17/36, slightly higher than average, nothing special percentage-wise, but because he was 24/27 on free throws, he ended up with 60 points!! 60 points on 36 FGA is crazy efficient!

  • @jk8190
    @jk8190 Год назад +3

    Great individual talent and supreme scorer for his size (6' tall), but not a player to build a team around of him. He was a SG in a body of PG. Even though he had a decent amount of assists, he was more like a finisher than distributor. The 76ers team was not as bad as many people think. Snow was decent, McKie was a six man of the year, Ratliff was the best shot bloker at that time, and his replacement (Mutombo) was still considered as one of the top defenders in the league. Not to mention Raja Bell, Speedy Claxton and Tyrone Hill.
    You can see that when you look at Denver Nuggets, when they replaced Iverson with Billups they became way better. Extraordinary individuality, but far from being a team leader.

I think the 2001 team is one of the worst supporting casts I've ever seen. I think 40 year old Mutombo was his second best player? There was Zero shooters outside of a 35% Derrick Coleman. Eric snow was the point guard who was a black hole on offense. It wasn't until 2006 where we had a pretty legitimate Supporting Cast but ironically they did worse because Iverson was on the decline and the coach didn't know how to f****** do anything.
