Those gates need some maintenance! Did the Glasson branch this month and the gates and paddles were awful! Going back up the following day, we got as far as lock 6 and had to wait 5 hours for an empty pound to be refilled by the CRT guys. It was so bad, we had to eat at Th Mill while we waited ;) At least nobody could moan we were moored on the lock landing :). Ian
As I said to the Foxes, thank you for taking me back to Glasson dock. Spent most of my early teenage life in and around that area at weekends during the 70's, as we had a static caravan at Mrs Lambs farm not far from the highest point you were at. Thank you.
Saw the illuminations as a young boy. At the time I was very impressed. My favourite memory of Blackpool is the famous rock ( candy). Great video, always entertaining.
Thanks for the trip to Glasson Dock whilst, at the same time, enjoying the 1st. brew from my newly arrived Norcanal Minimal List mug. I look in vain over the lip of the mug but Lancaster must be under the tea somewhere. Ciao ..
Hey Gal, Guy, and Pup, Cute though he may be, I tried to tell myself that was somehow grass on Georges nose until Jo confirmed my suspicion. (Slowly puts down bagel and cream cheese) lol. You always have great taste in music but you outdid yourself with the second piece. I am a sucker for a melodic piece with a good rim-click, and this one took me on a soul soothing voyage. Your imagery was, of course, most helpful. Thank you for that. So glad you post the name. I definitely need to add this one to my library. Take care and God Bless, Paul from Florida.
The Lancaster looks so beautiful and so peaceful. I would love to cruise it but despite Michael's assurances, I can't imagine I'd be happy doing the Ribble Link. Might have to be a holiday rental for me. BTW - I love my canal map!
I really enjoyed the trip down to Glasson in August, but like you the weather was not great. We moored where you did and were battered by high wind and rain, in August! Nice friendly pub there though. Great views as well. All in all a different location to go to in a narrowboat, a bit like Sharpness in that respect.
Great vlog guys. Those were the visitor moorings that you were on. Glasson Basin moorings are run by British Waterways Marinas Ltd (BWML), and not CRT, which is why you may have got the duff info, but I would have thought that CRT were well aware of the locations of the moorings.
Lovely video, Glasson Dock is a great place. Poor George though, filming him all damp and snotty. The look on his face was priceless though "Oh come on now mum and dad really, filming me like this? Honestly it's *Snot funny*
I got my mug today! As for sailing across the bay at Morecombe, you'd probably hit the Isle of Man first! Lovely vlog, I really enjoyed cruising along the Lancaster, especially through that deep cut. Take care,, you never know what you'll find in those wild locks!
Minimal List - always welcome. After watching your channel, Foxes Afloat, Cruising the Cut and others I am going to buy a Bickerstaff boat similar to Silver Fox when I finish my posting here and retire. Thank you both (and George) for such well informed Vlogs.
Thank you 🙏 for a lovely vlog, he’s still got that tiny brolly 😂 I’ll be on the 4 counties Easter Week, I’m going to take a Golf Brolly for Mike in case I pass you 👍
I was at Glasson on Thursday (21st) afternoon on a motorbike ride. Bacon butty at the village shop by the cafe. There was a narrowboat moored up near the sunken boat. I wonder was that yours?
The Lancaster really does look splendid but im afraid more and more canals are suffering from poor up keep issues like poor mooring and broken lock mechanisms and vastly overgrown embankments . However I really think the Lancaster looks worth a visit if your nerves will allow you . Maybe more thought into re opening newly restored canals as the crt can't really maintain the ones already open,a bit of a shame.
Gary Captain Phillips. If you can see Heysham power station from Glasson Basin, it means it's going to rain. If you can't see Heysham power Station, it means it's already raining. (I know - they say that about everywhere and it's often true!) Great vlog, not sure about those paddles.
"I wonder why it's so busy this morning". Possibly it was raining all the previous day? I'm sure I heard that from somebody... That's also more like an inland sea than a canal basin.
yes saturday morning ,, coffee and familar faces (and voices) on the canals , maybe i will take a sail the ocean in my kayak later today ,, ,hmm ((crusing the cut ) Wait how does that snake bridge work for horse drawn boats work ? ,, i take another go at a few of several rubik's (god save me) my dad was (is) a math teacher ,, ( i can still hear him say ,what you mean you don't know the total of that colum of numbers yet !) yes saturday morning waiting for the sun to join me , cheers
Dude, I would have had to have opened the sea lock and gone through and turned around and came right back through, just so I could have said that I took the boat on the sea.
The basin is really nice spot. I see Micheal as not sorted his foul weather gear yet. Being of a similar build I use www.arco.co.uk/ some sizes go up to 4X ,
I was like Please clean the leaves off the Solar panels this video. Even on cloudy days solar panels work if you keep the crap off them. good video otherwise.
Christopher Bird Narrow boats are driven, since a lot of the original boatmen were rural carters, who simply swapped the cart for the boat and kept the horses. Thus sea terms are less common although boats pass port to port.
Looks like the typical wind blown coast I know so well. It can be quite bleak if you go right down to the shore. Blackpool vs Vegas. LOFL. NO comparison. Blackpool is so much worse in every way possible. I can't think it has any redeeming features.
When going to Blackpool in the 90s it was amazing it was bumper to bumper the display were AWSOME it would have you over two & half hours to get from start to finish all the way out the sunroof. It was about the kids back then who annoyed their parents to take the trip. Now it can be done in less than five minutes the lights are PATHETIC!!!! Look on RUclips or google compare 1990s to the current day it's now shite.
Yes, my parents took me when I was about 10! We sat in one of the teams for hours taking in the illuminations. No doubt I would be disappointed if I went back now!
Good to see Jo steering the boat 👍
Nice vid, and really good to see the Glasson branch, as i`ve always wanted to cruise the Lancaster canal and Glasson Branch.,
Nice pictures of Glasson. From Graham Glasson of South Australia 🇦🇺.
Hah, glad to show you your namesake! M
Nice size turning basin, LOL

They’d definitely in need of some love, those gates! M
A lovely video from you. Thanks for cheering. Looking forward to the next one.
Thank you!
First thing... you both look really healthy ( skin bright fresh and glowing) great seeing the freshness of the cooler weather
The change in seasons is lovely, I just wish it didn’t get so dark as well!
@@MinimalList thats the down side of an English winter... short days.
Snot....what a great word snot is 😂😂
S’not!
You saw Blackpool Tower! Yay! Haha! 😂 Lovely vlog. Nice to see the dock again. We had a lovely week there. xxx
Only just! Haha
As I said to the Foxes, thank you for taking me back to Glasson dock. Spent most of my early teenage life in and around that area at weekends during the 70's, as we had a static caravan at Mrs Lambs farm not far from the highest point you were at. Thank you.
Always nice to revisit childhood memories isn’t it!
Well done on brilliant vlog...them locks looked hard work....thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Another great Vlog you two. Thank You Mark
Thank you!
Beautiful !!
Saw the illuminations as a young boy. At the time I was very impressed. My favourite memory of Blackpool is the famous rock ( candy).
Great video, always entertaining.
I fear you would be very disappointed if you saw the illuminations now, although the rock is probably just as good and just as bad for your teeth!
Thanks for the trip to Glasson Dock whilst, at the same time, enjoying the 1st. brew from my newly arrived Norcanal Minimal List mug. I look in vain over the lip of the mug but Lancaster must be under the tea somewhere. Ciao ..
Hah, yes the top of the Lancaster was indeed sacrificed!

Sorry about the snot! 😬 it’s the reality of living with a snot pup!
@@MinimalList True, but at least he is cute. :)
Great video as always. I can’t wait to explore the north on my boat with my roof dog.
I do love a boat roof dog!
The Lancaster looks so beautiful and so peaceful. I would love to cruise it but despite Michael's assurances, I can't imagine I'd be happy doing the Ribble Link. Might have to be a holiday rental for me. BTW - I love my canal map!
Wait till you see our return journey across the Ribble in a few vlogs time!😬Thanks for the ongoing support!

Yes! I know what you mean about it being a bit like sharpness!
Just received my canal map and mug, they're lovely.
exileinderby51 and I just received my mug. Good quality. Better than yer basic mug.
Thank you! That is so nice to hear!
I want to see Michael navigate the Narrowboat on the Sea. Please.
Please don’t encourage him... although a trip across The Wash will be in the cards at some point!
@@MinimalList LOL Okay. Actually, I was with you about the Thames trip. It made me nervous seeing those very large ships and their wakes.
Great vlog guys. Those were the visitor moorings that you were on. Glasson Basin moorings are run by British Waterways Marinas Ltd (BWML), and not CRT, which is why you may have got the duff info, but I would have thought that CRT were well aware of the locations of the moorings.
I wonder why they were marked as ‘permit holder only moorings!’ 🤷♀️ oh well we had a lovely time there, it was well worth the detour
They may be marked like that because I believe that they have to be pre-booked, and there is a charge for mooring there.
Lovely video, Glasson Dock is a great place. Poor George though, filming him all damp and snotty. The look on his face was priceless though "Oh come on now mum and dad really, filming me like this? Honestly it's *Snot funny*
Poor George, he really is very patient when we go through locks!
Five weeks behind, so we can now experience Halloween, Guy Fawkes and Remembrance Sunday all over again...good times!
I may just catch up by Christmas!!
@@MinimalList No rush, it's the quality I watch for, not the quantity. This way I get to savour them for longer.

The wild locks are a worry! Glad to hear the mug arrived safely!
I have also received my canal map in Sri Lanka. Thank you
Oh wow! Amazing! I hope you like it! I’m desperate to visit Sri Lanka so it’s nice to hear that my map has made it!

I was at Glasson on Thursday (21st) afternoon on a motorbike ride. Bacon butty at the village shop by the cafe. There was a narrowboat moored up near the sunken boat. I wonder was that yours?
We only had one night there so it wasn’t us! We saw the sunken boat, indeed it was a sad sight

The Lancaster is well worth a visit! So much of the upkeep and restorations done by volunteers. Lets hope people continue to care enough!
Heysham power station, great vlog as ever guys,

J & M. Is the water brackish? I was surprised to see jellies if it’s fresh. Hope you and George are well. Cheers C
Cheesy chips yes, you've got me going. Take care you three.
Very much needed after a damp wet cruise
Does the canal map show landmarks and identify bridges by name or number? Great video.
The guide we use is the Nicholson’s guide book. It shows both names and numbers
Your Vid's are a little fuzzy on the edges, close to the cannel sides. But still love your vid's. From Oklahoma.
"I wonder why it's so busy this morning". Possibly it was raining all the previous day? I'm sure I heard that from somebody...
That's also more like an inland sea than a canal basin.
Domed building contains road salt,it's been there for many years.
Heck of a lot of salt that! M
Ha a nb called totoro... that only works if there’s a Totoro bed!
if you cant see the sea in Morecambe bay just hang around .. it comes back very quickly !

I wanted to! Thankfully the tide was out far enough to stop me suggesting it to Jo at the end of a terribly long day! M
Nice trip down , it was all good till George's snot and cheesy chips mentioned in the same vlog , yuk :-)
The snot was long gone before the chips arrived!
Cheesy Chips
Is that anything like the "Irish Nachos" we have in america?
Wow... never heard of those and had to look it up. Had it in my mind of maybe convenience store nacho nastiness. Those look great!
I don’t think so. Think thick cut fries with grated cheddar cheese on top
The basin is really nice spot. I see Micheal as not sorted his foul weather gear yet. Being of a similar build I use www.arco.co.uk/ some sizes go up to 4X ,
Thanks for the info, he does have wet weather gear now but didn’t when we filmed this vlog!
