    Vince...Excellent video on painting tires & weathering them. I will need to watch this video again with some wheels and paints in hand. Please keep up the great tutorials as I am learning a great deal. :)

    Well now then... Am I glad you did this! Thanks Vince you're such a legend!
    I have the AK interactive tyres colours but it's much the same. Appreciate the walk-through. See I was dry brushing only and not wet blending and didn't understand why I wasn't happy even after pigment weathering

    Looks like Secret Weapon has been litigated out of business over IP disputes, so no SW paints anymore. I just saw this and was going to buy these paints today.

    do look on the packaging of WWII model kits containing wheeled vehicles (jeeps, trucks, etc.). they usually depict tires in a more weathered (dirtied, dusted, oily, etc.). when I was building my first SM trike, I took these pictures as reference.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 лет назад

      Yep, that's how I like my tires as well, I think that the dirt just places the vehicle into it's world.

    Not sure where to make requests, but having just painted an Icefall Yhetee today (ugh...) it would be interesting to see your take on creating the illusion of transparency in an opaque model. Of course, this is on the assumption that you didn't cover it already in your previous 158 Hobby Cheating videos.
    One of few upsides to these pretty wretched sculpts is you get a chance to use brown washes to try and create the illusion of the wooden handle being submerged inside the ice.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 лет назад

      So I didn't cover that exactly, but if you go back to the very beginning, you will find a video on Ice Weapons (Here - ruclips.net/video/xdCVlrTYA7w/видео.html&list=PLcdsbwBroEmD2fNEJhcju6PD7qRmoo04Y) It's not exactly what you are describing, but I do talk about the method for the illusion. Hope that helps. :)

      @@VinceVenturella indeed theres no way I was going painting mine looking new! My bases are Martian earth coloured through to sts dark sand. I doubt orks even produce tyres they probably just loot them! So they're bound to be worn already!

  • @jonfoisy1237
    @jonfoisy1237 4 года назад

    The beauty of tires is that you can add subtle visual interest to your model by slightly varying each tire. Assuming the vehicle has wear n tear on in. I see heavy construction vehicles on a daily basis at work and every one of them has miss matched tires. Just some food for thought

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  4 года назад

      It's an excellent point, I was sort of tackling here which I assumed is uniform, but you are correct tires are often replaced unevenly and can different wear, weathering and coloration.

    • @jonfoisy1237
      @jonfoisy1237 4 года назад

      @@VinceVenturella I completely agree and understand. Love your vids. My comment was more geared towards beginners who worry way too much about getting everything perfectly uniform. Randomness and non uniformity are great tools in the art of painting. As I'm sure you well know.

    So, now my request is fulfilled can I make another?
    Would love to see a video on heat effected exhausts. There are others out there making kids for this but they're much too vibrant in style for me and I'm sure you're style is much more likely to suit my boyz. I'm thinking of those exhausts on the new orky vehicles that have weaponised exhausts

    Question any plans on making the last 3 or 4 hair videos?
    So far you have painting blond, black and red hair.
    You are still missing brown, pepper? (hair with gray streaks in it), gray and completely white hair.
    I know brown hair might be easy, but i also have a suspicion that if you want it to look quite realistic it gets more advanced?
    Same with the other colors?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 лет назад +3

      Yep, I will hit all of them eventually. Not many chances to do white hair right now, but I have heard there are some figs coming next year with white hair...

    Hey Vince. The Secret Weapon rubber paints confuse me. Rubber and Rubber Highlight are just mid and lighter mid greys, and I can mix those from black and white easy enough. But, Tire Black makes no sense - tires are not in any way blue. I know SW paints are more for realistic colour schemes, and that's why I don't get the blue tint.
    But, other than that, thanks for the video!

    • @Mikey__R
      @Mikey__R 5 лет назад

      Yep, I've googled loads, and compared the colour of tires in the real world with the dark blue grey. The only time when tires appear blue, is when the satin finish of a clean and new tire reflects a blue light.
      So, I think I'm going to follow your suggestions, but I'm going to skew the colours into the brown grey and beige grey for the highlights. My APCs are driving though the trenches anyway, so everything gets covered in mud.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 лет назад

      Makes total sense, and yes, that dark color is meant to be the new, satin rubber right off the line. I always counter it out with the dust and nuln, but I think your plan sounds great.

    How does snow get salty? I could see if you’re driving on a beach or saltwater marsh or estuary; but snow is fresh water, as I recall. When you do a mud tutorial, could you do snow (active icy snow), too? Thanks for all of these tutorials!

    • @Mac270591
      @Mac270591 5 лет назад +1

      Salt is used on roads to melt snow/prevent freezing (apparently it lowers the freezing point of water).

    • @gigartina
      @gigartina 5 лет назад

      Mac270591 - i just googled it: i had no idea all that was going on! I have seen snow before - in Yosemite and Canada (Columbia Glacier) - but even that’s been decades ago. I wonder how many Imperial worlds salt their roads?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 лет назад

      Yes, sorry as someone who grew up in a temperate climate in the US, I had forgot that this isn't a universal. There is 4-5 months out of the year here were tires have that look because our roads are covered in salt to prevent icing. (It does lower the freezing temperature).

    Are these rubber tires that you are painting? I am new to modeling and I'm just starting the Revell lifeguard jeep model. The tires are rubber but they're so shiny and plastic looking. I didn't know if I could paint them. I'm not going for muddy, worn look but I just want it to look like a car tire. Thank you for the video.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  Год назад +1

      They are plastic, but the process would be the same if your model was rubber, a good prime and the acrylic paint should stick.

    Black and Vallejo sunny skin tone make a good tire base....

      Interesting, but that make sense, thinking about the color that would produce, that actually is a very interesting tone. I assume higher ratio of black to skin tone.
