Southern Pacific lives on as a model railroad for many model railroaders. My N scale model railroad has Southern Pacific, Santa Fe freight locomotives as well as both Santa Fe & Southern Pacific cabooses. M N scale excursion train is the Morning Daylight pulled by SP Daylight 4-8-4 number4449.

The greatest railroad ever, I wish that UP merger would have went the other way with the Espee staying intact. The Espee was a unique railroad that no others could match and I miss it dearly. #SP4EVER
Technically that is kind of how it happened. UP’s owner bought SP, and merged the UP into the SP. Then SP changed their name, as Union Pacific is such a historic name. This is also what happened with Missouri Pacific, MP bought UP, and all MP employees took over UP, then MP changed their name to UP.
@@stuartadamsrailfanningvideos SP 4449 is one of my three favorite steam locomotives. I have a Kato N scale SP 4449 Daylight Locomotive which is my excursion locomotive pulling the 10 car Daylight set on my N scale Pacific West Coast model railroad in the early stages.
At 0:23, there is a picture of the golden spike on the transcontinental railroad. This is funny since the Southern Pacific did not work on the Transcontinental Railroad, Union Pacific and the Central Pacific did.
The SP deserves credit for holding on as long as it could.
I wish the southern pacific was still here, even though I live in canada
Yeah I do so too
If the SP wasn't bought out, Tennessee Pass would still be open.
@@harrisonofcolorado8886 I don't know about that. It may have stayed open because SP had no better options.
Matter of fact, the government prevented it from being bought out in early 1900.
Southern Pacific: "The Futures in our Hands."
Union Pacific: "I have something to say about that..."
basically '96
SP "we are 100% gonna live until the 21st century!"
UP "about that.."

lyrics:
when they drove that golden spike back in 1869
it opened up the american west southern pacific line
thousand miles of wilderness
heard the hammers ringin' and the voices of the candy dancers sing
southern pacific, roll on, roll on
from chicago trough the rockies
america's your home
portland to new orleans
all along the golden crisp
southern pacific
the spirt that won the west
all spikes and ties went down in time the son of fiddles is real
with the rivers stitched together with a million miles of steel
right on the clock went rolling stock
its keepin' this country great
long as theres a USA its people will haul the freight
southern pacific, roll on, roll on
from chicago to the rockies
america's your home
portland to new orleans
all along the golden crisp
southern pacific
the sprit that won the west
cotton belt
T&L
and then the rio grande
but all the other proud and strong
like a couple and to hand
pullin every grade and curve
single heart and mind
they make sure the job gets done
out on the sp line
southern pacific
roll on, roll on
from chicago through the rockies
america's your home
portland to new orleans
all along the golden crisp
southern pacific
the sprit that won the west
so roll on big eyed lady
to the mountain and the plains
roll on man and women with tradition in your face
keep the proud wheels turning on
all across this great land
blow that whistle loud and long
to the futures in our hands
southern pacific roll on, roll on
from chicago trough the rockies
america's your home
portland to new orleans all along the golden crisp
southern pacific the spirt that won the west

Yeah it would have been cool to see SP Today
I work where the SP 4449 is housed. I'm proud to call SP 4449 an old friend.
