I absolutely adore the Midwest. On the west coast we go the opposite direction.
This is also the meaning when you get in an argument with your romantic partner and they say: “it’s fine…” It is most clearly NOT fine…
PSA on the digital indexes - GW forgot to lock the PDF files so they're 100% editable - you could totally just edit them once the codices drop and have up-to-date digital rules.

Best Digital "Feature" GW has provided, for sure.
The Painting Phase did an interview with a former head of the "supplies" department, and he explained that we're not the market for their department. The market is very new people, and moms, and grandmas getting upsold a get started box and the whole pile of tools that Little Timmy "needs" to assemble and paint. He goes into great detail about products that were intentionally bad, why they'll never do a wet palette ("Why would we want you to keep paint fresh longer?") etc. The video title is "Contrast Paint saves GW from BANKRUPTCY?!" and it's an amazing and revealing look at the inner workings of the paints and tools group.
For getting white in the recesses, put water in first then touch white ink to it and let the capillary effect do its magic
Or mix white ink with a drop of isopropyl alcohol

I fear the models and memories where Jay doesn’t have more to say! Sure the heat death of the universe will probably come first but just knowing that it’ll happen is scary enough.
The new case looks good for transporting a killteam but I think I’ll stick with magnets and foam for now.

Now that I think about it… that’d be a GREAT April fools day video.
Once that happens Jay can start commenting each book of the horus heresy 😂
About the tools, a former product designer talked about tools/hobby products and their costs over on the painting phase. It's super interesting, but the TLDR is that a product must earn at least X amount, and cheap clippers would not earn enough of a margin for it to be worth it since they don't do any tool metalworking themselves, and since people could buy the same type for cheaper, like they do now so they go for their own version that offers something more for more money. Still, regular clippers works but it has a reason to sell their own thing.
Sounds more like “we can’t compete since we don’t make them in house, so let’s hope the newbies don’t look anywhere else”
@@timunderbakke8756 Sure! The guy was quite candid about it, since he hadn't worked there for quite a while, this is just my summery of what he was saying. Also, you need to remember that GWs primary customer are parents, not the adult players, when it comes to accessories like this.

@timunderbakke8756 they know people will look elsewhere. What they want is to have the one stop shop for their stores. Seeing as they sell only gw products there, imagine if they had none of the necessary tools to help people work on 98% of what they have on the shelves
@@nicolastousignant9160oh no, I get it. It would also be super annoying to explain to the newbie that not only do you need to buy paint and models, but you must go to the other store for clippers and glue. I’m just acknowledging they can’t compete in that piece of market space.
I do wonder though what their overhead would be if they were willing to resell other brands’ products for things they don’t make themselves (clippers etc).
I feel like the metal toolbox and magnet solution will always reign supreme. Costs like $50 for a big toolbox and enough magnets for more than 2000 points of models, and they have handles and secure closures.
As for the airport, I travel overseas for work regularly, and I always stash a cookie tin full of WIP minis and a Killteam or two. Never had a problem with security and I’ve never had a casualty in transit.
Always worry about taking sharp hobby knives and rattle cans on aircraft. Even large bottles of superglue and Vallejo paints.
No, I think maybe GW finally heard all the grumbling from people not wanting to buy the big Warcry box just to get the terrain and decided to break everything up. Remember, they did recently announce the double box with hunters and ogres that has the book with their rules that will be sold by itself. Also, there is a Fyreslayers warband on the way. I'm sure it's just a way to obfuscate a small price rise as the terrain and double warband box will probably cost more than the old big box, but it does mean people not always having to buy stuff they don't want and if they don't come out the same week then people can spread the purchases out.
Remember, it was the Kill Team boxes always selling out in minutes while the Warcry boxes usually lasted a good long while. Maybe they noticed that they had strong sales numbers after they broke the Warcry boxes up and decided to start with that.
To be fair to movie theaters, the snacks are so expensive because they don't make enough from ticket sales. So I usually don't mind getting a snack or two so they can stay in business.
GW on the other hand, can sell everything for 15% less and still make tons.
They never said 1 for free on the gw, but also if you filled your app with like 10 lists, you can still open and edit em.
The thing is i wanna try making a custom figure case. I saw a small leather suitcase in a thrift shop maybe gonna buy it and figure out a way to store my death guard in it
Steel plate and magnetic bases, job done.
Fyi: those carry boxes would not work well with a hinged lid. The travel of the top nubs would come at an angle when the lid closes and would not hold the minis very well, and could potentially damage those thin parts you were talking about.

@16:33 the best way I've found to get white into recesses like the gauss flayers is to use white acrylic ink. The pigment is stronger in inks and it's less viscous than standard acrylic so it is more opaque and flows better into the details. Doom Stalker is a cool model and I love your Necron color scheme btw.
Design is very similar to the "Plano The Edge: hard bait" Boxes. Which i have to say, doesnt rough up very nice, expensive, pieces of fishing plastic. Keeps hooks from getting tangled. Super dope. This is a solid idea, stoked to see the reviews.
I remember these from the Sticky Buddy, they're called rubber fingers 😄
As someone who got back into WH40K with 10th, the app was basically perfect (minor UI issues which you mentioned, easy to fix and update) and actively drove me to buy more models because it's a giant shopping cart for your armies.
Couple that with the fact that, as a Canadian, I can't sub to WH+ if I wanted to because of content rules in our backwards nation, and I'm forced to use BattleScribe or 1PR.
At least for my Chaos I can still see their datasheets and rules, I JUST started a Tyranids army before the codex dropped, so now I can't see their datasheets!
I have zero intent on buying a codex this edition. Since I only need a handful of pages at a time, I fully intend to hoist the skull & crossbones flag and pick up my marine detachment rules from another source.
I’ve tried to be supportive of GW and just say “eh it’s a luxury product” and it’s just gotten to be nutty. That and the datasheets are easier than ever to get ahold of without it (especially because we have free detachments to use until we can “source” the codex ones)
Little rant here about double dipping your wallet, THE ENTIRE GUARD INFANTRY SELECTION (especially forgeworld)
So the main ick for me is that a box of space marine assault intercessors, y'know, a pretty run of the mill, all round kit will set you back on GW price about 60 dollars not counting tax, now for this you get 10 models that have really good leadership, meh guns, 2 wounds, 3+ save, 3+ hitting for both melee and range, and strength/toughness 4 along with pretty good melee.
Now, for 10 dollars less, you get 10 (smaller) models, half the points, 2 heavy weapons + sergeant, abysmal save, 1 wound each, 4+ hit on melee/shooting aside from sergeant with I believe a 3+ melee, and a relatively bad leadership.
Now if that wasn't bad enough, you can get a specialist unit (Scions) for 45 bucks, now for this you get a pretty good unit, HOWEVER, they made sure to give you only 5 MODELS IN THE BOX, with the excuse being that "oh well you also get the command sprue", well MAYBE just sell the command sprue SEPERATELY.
Now before I stop complaining, I want to finish with something, I think that nearly all of the guard infantry boxes, save probably the Kasrkin and maybe a few others, now what I think GW should do is double the amount of models in the box to even out the point value and increase the price to around 60 bucks (and also sell scion command sprue separately) . Now I know they can do this easily and still make a profit because they LITERALLY DO THIS WITH AGE OF SIGMAR.
Okay, rant done, thank you to anyone who stayed to listen.
The Warcry terrain was supposed to be in the doubles boxes but I believe they had production issues. People were complaining that the new land for this season was supposed to have lots of crashed old ones ship bits everywhere.
Having taken a magnet case through the TSA a few times recently, it's not bad at all, you just need to take it out and put it in a bin, and it's pretty obviously just a flat thingy and all you have to do is own up to having awesome looking hand painted minis.
The product that got bumped was Legions Imperialis (Epic).
The terrain kit was probly ready to go for after some big combined box release, but was something easily grabbed to fill a gap in the few months before Imperialis is back, without interfering in whatever combined box it was from.
I remember back when you redid your necron scheme while nick finished painting his blue orks. You really did fine a killer color combo man best looking rons iv seen
I had a love hate relationship with my necrons because I couldn't find a paint scheme,I ended up going with the box,,/book art and actually quite like them now 😊
All Codexes should be digital and all unit rules should be free. A Codex should not cost more than 20 bucks. Nobody can tell me that a digital vendor could not e-mail you a code for the app on checkout.
Random fact:
Any list you made in the warhammer 40k app early stage thing (?) Stays after the update but you can't add more, so i have like 50 different army pages that im rationing
Also, a similar thing happened with the age of sigmar app but without the restriction so i just casually list build for aos constantly

Hello! Its been a while since you did an Ork video. You had mentioned making a kill rig for your mad max theme. I have been working on kitbashing the Ridgehauler Cargo 8 vehicle from necromunda, i used the trailer chopped in half to make two trukks pulled by Mangler squigs from Sigmar. I think the ridgehauler would match your theme big time. That’s all, cheers!
I still use my two old cases with games workshop on the fron when I bought them back in 2000
I think the warcry terrain dropped late when it was supposed to come in a box with the fyreslayers and kruleboyz especially cause both of those warbands clearly have a monster egg hunting motif
The other issue is also that their app doesnt isolate your wargear options, you have to hunt for the profiles every time and god forbid youve got a unit with a lot of variety
I would be nice if you had the option of which team/war and you wanted. Within reason of course. More affordable GW hobby supplies would be not too!! I don’t think that all the cost is from shipping. Thanks gents!! Fantastic as always!!!
Separate lid means they can sell additional layers (maybe with different depths) for 99999999 money. Call them the "battalion commander expansion" and the "big adapter" or something.
The kruleboyz warband has been announced for month now and is still not released. You can see them on the artwork for the new terrain. If they made a box with them, the fire slayer and the new terrain it would be an instant buy from me.
I had two of those black cases when I first started playing warhammer at my after school club, they were pretty beat up as my brother passed them down to me. They were full of variously destroyed/intact badly painted tyranids
1:30 amazon had one of those and when I started with gundam model kits that's what I got. still have the box and sanding files

Put your models into the Iron Maiden case Admech/Eldar/Sylvaneth/necron players . They’ll be fine.
I got soooooooo lucky with regards to the 40k app. I already had several army lists saved before the pay wall was up. I can't make new lists, but I can edit the lists that I already had, So for the time being I have several Guard lists, Admech, Knights, Agents, and Deathwatch. I wish I had saved a list for each army while still free.

For the white inset in the guns, I use the old water/shade trick, but use white ink instead of shade. For anyone unfamiliar, I paint it with water, let the surface dry, then touch the water with the ink, and it flows nicely

Legions Imperialis Was majorly delayed along with the reboxing of Adeptus Titanacus that probably why you are seeing the terrain
I actually love my old case, i use it to transport my old vostroyans, having 50 in there makes it weigh like 30kg lmao.
I also do remember though that case being the bane of my empire halbrediers and spearmen as it broke many weapons.
There is a warcry box coming out with no terrain... I'm assuming they split the terrain and minis into separate boxes ... at higher prices.
I think the terrain was meant for the prior Warcry box, but the recycled meat trees and the pyramid instead.
I hope to see some weird as hell necron models like the hexmark in the future
GW needs to release extra/replacement paint post caps to replace the crudites. I don't have the finger strength to pop them as in your past video.

Its right what you say. its so crazy you have to pay for paper codex, to get the code , that is the only thing I need, for the app.. doesnt make any sense. And still no thing in the app for the crusade... its so fun but would be so much easier to have it digitla then pen and paper.

For warcry they should stay the same.
Warrants with the terrain, your getting 2 and terrain for usually cheaper than separate.
I don't hate the case, itself an interesting desighn, and that kind of material is pretty soft and flexible, so it should keep impacts from doing anything, but the problem with it is cost, if I was GW and i made a case i would have made a magnetic case, and I'd sell magnets custom sized so they are the same height as the bases
This feels like a controversial take, but I actually kinda prefer to pen and paper (but actually book and type up) my army list. I feel like when i use the army list apps, I don’t become as familiar with everything as I do when I am manually inputting all the info into an excel sheet. Granted I am sticking with 9th edition so I don’t have to buy another book etc but still.

M concern about the case revolves around chaos/death guard terminators, many or their weapons stick out pretty far and it doesn’t look like the kid has enough room
I feel like if they made a reasonably-priced modular case system with adjustable foam or insert options, people would buy many of them. I could see paying $20 for one, $60 for 5, and $100 for 10, with optional inserts at $5. If they sell each box for more than $20 and/or don't offer a discount, I will buy NONE. If they sell them like I described, I will buy the ten pack immediately and probably continue to buy them every time I get another set of models. The way they price their cases it's like they further penalize people who are dedicated and have a lot invested already instead of throwing them a bone.

On cases, I think magnetic ones (like the "really usefull boxes" are good, with foam/airbag inserts for heavy traveling
Airbags for individual space marines? Presumably they inflate automatically if the box is dropped or is involved in a car crash. Awesome!
@@sirrathersplendid4825 nah like, plastic bags filled with air, you get them in packaging sometimes in place of packing peanuts and the like.
though now that I think about it, spikey bits might pop them, so maybe foam (or even packing peanuts) might be better
So on the topic of buying the physical codex to unlock the app version. There are lots of TTRPGs that give you a code to redeem a PDF of the book you got. So it’s not unheard of in the TTG space. Just hope GW gives us a way to buy it online.
AIUI, you're not getting a ebook of the whole codex. You're just getting the points & options for the app.
I subbed to the Warhammer app this week, then I added a list for every army I'm interested in and canceled the subscription. Still have all my lists, just have to get past them asking if I want to sub every time I open it.
I have the hobby kit from the 8e Fantasy era and it the case was grey, I took all the tools out and redid it as a carrying case for my Khador Army, lol. So score I guess for me. But GW do better.

That's rhe problem with a lot of modern business models. They choose to chase vast profit margins instead of shrinking them and selling more, thus making more profit. Its simple business to me
...aaaand just access to the rules from the book, too. For $50, GW's code (which I like) should unlock the pdf of the book.

I think the rules being free is the best way to get me to buy models outside of just my army. I'm broke right now but if I had the money I'd have bought so many combat patrols. I think if gw gave us more reasons to buy models outside of the faction you play then we'd buy more.
When it comes to movie theater food, they barely make pennies per ticket due to movie companies charging so much per license, so their entire revenue is basically just snacks

If you saved loads of lists on the app, they are all still there and can be edited. But it has to stay on the same faction.

If they had ebooks of the codexeses, I would probably buy all of them (eventually). Since they're not doing that, I probably won't buy any of them.
Just gonna say. Malifaux has fully free rules. A fully free list builder. And the best miniatures community ever.

I’m not all that convinced that it’s a good game either. The playthroughs I’ve watched online have been pretty meh… Would happily give it a try though if someone sat me in front of a game.

Ya know how sometimes a video gamr publisher will sell physical copies of a game, and then it turns out the disc is just an installer and you still need to download the actual game?
It really feels like that's what the codexes are now. You buy a book, and for a while (hopefully, bad luck Tyranids) you can just play with what's in the book. But as soon as GW does a 'balance patch', the information in the book is useless, and you need to use the app to get your updated rules (or pirate them), because GW aren't willing to reprint the codexes or index cards and give their customers free copies in exchange for the now useless ones.
And sure, some of the information in the codexes will still be up to date, but they really can't expect anyone but their most loyal customers to know what is and isn't out of date without checking elsewhere. And at that point, the codex is just a book with pretty pictures, lore, and a code to use with the app.
Honestly, if GW doesn't go back to free rules, or are willing to give customers free updated codexes in exchange for old ones, I think I'm done playing 40k and will just continue with the hobby side of things.
