Ok, so it just occurred to me, Space Dwarves are from high gravity planets, which causes them to have a compressed and dense physiology. Wouldn’t that mean they kinda bound on the lighter gravity worlds? FAST SPACE DWARVES, CMON GW!
What about bespoke World Eaters? They still don't have any rules for them yet. As for terrain... xenos, xenos, and more xenos. There is a complete lack of non-fortication xenos terrain.
Something to make sure you're doing when playing Kill Team: Vantage only ignores Conceal on LIGHT cover not Heavy. My group played that wrong for a long time and it makes a huge difference. Vantage is not nearly as oppressive when played the way the rules actually state it.
While a little expensive, the RUB (Really Useful Box) line is available online at Staples (with free shipping over $35?) and their 4L boxes are superb for all manner of 28mm minis. They stack with a few other sizes which can hold larger stuff. In short, RUB is a pretty solid stacking system. I have two shelves filled with both RUBs and larger Hefty storage bins. Everything is neatly laid out along a single wall - and labeled. It's "pick and choose" and has made gaming tremendously simplified.
In fact 40K Combat Patrols can be easily organised into those boxes you found for ShatterPoint. The bonus is no list building, so just open out and play! 🎉
I’m not excited for Kill Team S3 at all. Hard pass. I’m so angry at GW for not making Gallowfall or Ashes of Faith available because of their terrible choice of forced scarcity that I’m done collecting Kill Team completely. I loved S2 because of the amazing terrain and the idea of amazing Space Hulk stuff, and I’ll be doing Boarding Actions games and Arks of Omen with my gaming guys. I’ll even use them for Deathwatch RPG. But the fact that Gallowfall and Ashes of Faith came out so quick and were so buried and scarce knocked me off the Kill Team train. I’m done. F GW.
Ventage Point does treat operative as having Engage only in case, that operative is hiding behind a light cover. Also keep obscuring mechanic in mind. Maybe play with more heavy terrain on the board?
I agree. My friend and I usually have a map layout with about 4 vantage points, but we also usually have about two pieces of light cover on the whole map. Everything else is heavy cover. That way, vantage points are mostly there to shoot behind player-deployed barriers or one specific terrain piece. It feels like a very balanced setup.
I want to be able to build my kill teams. Why can't I have a few novitiates and a handful of Sisters, led by a Palatine? A batch of wyches led by a succubus? Assorted phobos marines on a special forces kill team, like the actual Phobos kill team IN the Deathwatch index?
A unit being on a vantage point should give them a debuff as well. Yes, they can now hit units that are concealed, but now they're standing up high and should be easier to shoot at. So give other units shooting at them a +1 to hit or somesuch.
I actually think the Beastmen nerf was too much. Only one of those changes would've been enough. Either let them be shot to death *or* deny them objective control. They have no options other than running into the opponent or running into objectives
The Ashes of Faith box felt really bad for me. The Inquisitional Retinue kill team sucks and i realize i don't care about playing narrative campaigns. I hate how the Interrogator doesn't even have a default melee weapon like literally any other kill team leader. YES YOU CAN BUY ONE FOR 3 EP, 3EP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Also Leviathan came out too soon after.
10e's big antagonist is the Tyranids, so if Kill Team wants a tie in, it should go for Tyranids. Give them a trifecta. Genestealers (no cult) as a throwback to Space Hulk, probably even borrowing the token system from that game so that the opponent knows where you have units, but doesn't know how many. Maybe have them led by a lictor or something. A zergy team that's mostly made up of gaunts, led by Tyranid Warriors or something. And an army specializing in flying, so a winged Tyranid Prime and some sort of winged combat unit to work with him (this would also plug a pretty weird gap in their 40k lineup). Three teams sounds like a lot, but one would basically be a White Dwarf team, another would basically be a port of an existing spin-off, and the other would be adding a unit that 40k players probably want.
I bought an ArtBin Essentials Lift-Out Tray Box this month on Amazon, and it's one of the best Hobby Purchases I've made, as I now have the majority of my Hobby Tools all in one convenient place.
I'm doing a kitbash of a few models from necromund and cadians. Super excited to get to play them. The only model I'll be sad to not have is the Veteran from the inquisitorial agents.
Vantage point needs to be changed to be advantages against engaged enemies but you can pin concealed enemies with your shooting which costs them +1 APL to perform their first action in an activation. It’s still advantageous to shoot concealed enemies but it loses its lethality.
Disagree on the Beastmen. That's a hard hit man. Yes it needed looking at as it was very strong, however what this has done has really made it null and void. Any space marine team with bolter discipline and/or lethal 5+ is wiping beastmen out in one activation. What do they have now? Limited range weak shooting and reasonable melee. That's it 🤷♂️😢
I have a hunch, they are going to push Nids hard, and one of the kill teams will be a tyranid specific one, with special characters just for kill team. Either that i wouldnt be to sad for Slaanesh kill team. Ive been enjoying kill team quite alot. I agree though, vantage point is quite annoying. I think the game is better off without it.
You have misunderstood how Vantage works....it only treats concealed units as engaged if behind light cover...so units in conceal that are obscured by heavy cover are still un-targetable.
For model storage, with my Malifaux models, I bought wooden boxes from the dollar store, put a big fridge magnet sheet in the bottom and magnetized all of them. I have them sorted by keyword, so I can grab one box and know all of one keyword is in there.
Remember, in kill team vantage it only treats conceal as engage in LIGHT terrain or other models! It you have plenty of heavy, you can still hide, even on big tall boards!
On the topic of vantage points, what if it wasn't completely removed but was something like "While an operative is concealed, they can retain an extra defense dice while in cover" that way vantage points can still make it scarier to push up the board with concealed operatives but sneakier ones like the corsair fate dealer or craftworld rangers are still very safe sincw it can stack witg their camo cloaks and allow them to retain all their defense die guranteed and if ap weapons are a worry then you can even say that all ApX weapons have -1 Ap to make them less threatening

I think next season is very likely something related to water. The teaser back in may showed some kind of stormy river/lake with structures and in the article GW wrote "More specific clues abound, however. An Aeldari presence seems likely. Also, a glimpse of structures which appear to be built amid choppy waves. Further scouting is clearly required." Combined with Valraks leak (he has been right with those a lot) it seems very likely to me that we will get the following in the next Kill team box: water-based terrain or map + rules (maybe slower movement through water areas/ a swim or dive action/ unpassable spots of terrain (waves/too deep water); all speculation by me though) Striking Scorpions Kill team Space Marine Scouts as Kill team
OK, Jay, here's what you want to do for Mantic Armada storage. Buy 3 of these sterilite double bins. Put one top lid away, and make these into two triple stacks. One of the bins will hold your tokens & such. Carefully cut the bottom out of a second bin, leaving an inch or so of bottom surface all the way around. Clamp that on top of the third one, and voila, you have a double-height mini storing bin. And when you repeat, you can do the same for another game!
Ironically I didn’t order gallowfalls but I found it on a 10% off deal at a bootleg hobby lobby, adding the beastmen to my thousand sons army as tzaangors and I just like the votaan’s martian explorer design
All of my malifaux minis are in one of those style of cases. I just cut some metal and pop riveted into the bottom of the case. Now everything is magnetized to it. The cards are also all organized in a case that I'm pretty sure is for storing photographs. Having everything neatly organized changes everything.
Would be interesting to have a kill team board that’s a mix of indoor and outdoor terrain or necromunda terrain to show off parts of hive cities, manufactorums, or even xenos terrain. Would be cool to get a Catachan model update into a killteam along with forrest terrain
To follow the half outside half inside map for killteam I personally would want a necron themed set where its located at one of the necron tombs. The outside half could be the desert going up to the tomb entrance and the indoors area could be inside the tomb. Im new to 40k lore so idk what its like inside the tomb but I think having it be part of a map would be alot of fun.
The change to chaos cultists is awesome! They’re still strong but not crazy OP. Goats on the other hand… they got hit way too hard. Frenzy is meaningless now and they’re straight up a bad team now. Huge bummer.
I think this is the first time the new aesthetic for the Stormcast has missed, because the old Neave Blacktalon is infinitely superior, and unfortunately I think it comes down entirely to the pose. The old pose was honestly one of the best poses GW have ever produced and even in the better looking armour the pose just diminishes it's quality so much. Also I think the new head actually looks worse than the old one, though that might just have been the paintjob.
OH. JAY. I listened to Day of Ascension book on Audible and you’re right; IT’S AMAZEBALLS. I loved every word of it! It was a PERFECT balance of making the genestealers protagonists, but not denying the truth of their reality being Xenos-tainted! Just wanted to let you know that I’m on the genestealer train now as being a fascinating and unique concept!
Jay rambling about Star Wars makes me every time remember, how much I hate the new "Disney Star Wars" (except for Rogue 1). It really is a mess. So ... can we please have no live action 40k, please?
I'd love to do some conversions using the Stormcast for my Templars army. The main issue though is that roughly 40% of the models in SE are female, and it's just a hard time figuring out what to do with those. I’d like the next Killteam to have a half interior map and half pale sand. The Gallowdark has been grounded!
The Gallowdark appears to have basically exterminatus'd the planet it landed on.
Ok, so it just occurred to me, Space Dwarves are from high gravity planets, which causes them to have a compressed and dense physiology. Wouldn’t that mean they kinda bound on the lighter gravity worlds? FAST SPACE DWARVES, CMON GW!
that is such a cool and funny image, but also considering they have smaller limbs and kinda denser bones, that might balance them out speed wise.
John Carter of Mars for the win.
Bespoke Deathguard this season. New Tyranid terrain. Maybe new Sector Imperalis Terrain. New rules to battle inside a hive city. One can dream.
What about bespoke World Eaters? They still don't have any rules for them yet.
As for terrain... xenos, xenos, and more xenos. There is a complete lack of non-fortication xenos terrain.
Bespoke Mechanicus Killteam please. I know Hunters Clade is good but I need to see some new cool Mechanicus models.
Eldar Exodites please! Although the striking scorpions will be good.
Beastman frenzy getting a fix was so obvious from the reveal of Gallowfall - it was only matter of time.
Something to make sure you're doing when playing Kill Team: Vantage only ignores Conceal on LIGHT cover not Heavy. My group played that wrong for a long time and it makes a huge difference. Vantage is not nearly as oppressive when played the way the rules actually state it.

Good. There are a lot of great wargames that make for great hobby projects.
Like Turnip28, Gaslands, the sea warfare game from Mantic.

Just define all terrain as heavy terrain if you wanna "turn off" vantage points? Or at least minimize the impact of them.
