I love these videos because not only do I find restoration interesting, he also shows actual use not just showcase and that's the most fascinating part of him
Am I the only one who noticed how there is a distinct difference in these youtube knife/tool restoration videos between the guys who show off as many fancy gadgets as they have and the guys who go at it with steel wool, white vinegar and a sharpening stone. Note also that while those who use the first approach might forgo test cutting in favour of extended beauty shots or hack up bottles of brightly coloured water in the back yard, this guy made lunch with it. I have no doubt that this knife was truly reborn and will live happily in the kitchen for many more years.
I'm really fortunate to have a metalsmithing class (which im in for the third year straight, woo!) And it's given me such an appreciation for all the work. Knowing the HOURS OF SANDING AND POLISHING made me grind my teeth and shudder. Hours, if not days of footage are cut out of just sanding. And filing. And sanding again. And filing again. And polishing. And then sanding some more because there's always ONE. MORE. SCRATCH.
Wow not only did I get to see the beautiful blade restored but you also made something yummy! Great job it looks beautiful. Love that you kept its shape.
Really great no power tools just old fashion skill . Great to see you didn’t weld the back end to fix the aged metal. I also like how you left the head of the blade no harsh grinding. I leaves the knifes history and character. Terrific work!
Half way through the vid it just turned into a cooking vid and I think that has got to be my favorite part

錆び取り液はとても優秀ですね。
ヤスリで磨いていくと包丁の表面もまだまだサビにやられていても逆にダマスカス鋼のような紋様となり味のある仕上がりになりますね。
ガタガタだった刃を再び真っ直ぐに磨き上げるのは大変だったと思います。
ここまでの包丁に仕上げたのも間違いなく宝を創ったと言えるでしょう。
