2012 Volkswagen CC, Jetta, Passat, GTI, & Golf service light reset procedure

Volkswagen service or oil light reset procedure.
this will work in any vw with this style gauge cluster. please comment which car you've used this method for.
this is an alternative to the other method that is a bit more time-consuming and has never worked for me. this particular car is a 2012 vw cc. 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 should all be identical to this process
