I bought the DCT version about 6 weeks ago. I also own a ‘19 Ducati Multistrada 1260S with speed shifter and auto blipper. The manual mode paddle shifts, both up and down, on the Rebel are quicker and smoother than speed shifting up or auto blipping down with the Ducati. At less than half the price of the Multi, the transmission in the Rebel is astoundingly good when you paddle shift. It’s faster than you could humanly do it with a traditional clutch-analogous to the current crop of high performance cars that shift faster with their DCT setups than anyone could manage with a stick. I’ll admit that “auto” mode shifts a little early in “standard” if you’re just giving it an easy roll on and a little too late if you’re a bit more aggressive in “sport” mode. However, if you just put it in manual mode and paddle shift the results are amazing. As noted in the video, you can also override the auto mode momentarily by simply using the paddles anytime you want to change gears. That’s good for an easy cruise where you occasionally want to jump into traffic or pull hard out of a turn but don’t want to go full manual. I know the bike is great with a standard clutch setup, too. I wanted something unique, though, and on that account this bike delivers very nicely.
Um....there's a A-M button to switch from fully automatic to manual mode. There's a manual with details under the seat!!!
DUDE, that would mean he'd have to read something! That, and it would destroy his anti-DCT narrative. He also would have found out that, God forbid, there are different drive modes that have higher shift points. All in all quite the flippant review.
The full manual override is the A/M button on the right handlebar.
You will know you are in the mode when the "D" goes away on the right side of the P/T/D section.
It lets you shift manually up, and will stop at whatever gear you choose to be the highest gear you like. BUT, it will downshift automatically when you come to a stop or slow down.
Hope this helps. I'm still finding things out about my DCT, and I love this bike.
There is a 100% manual mode. Just push the R/M button to overide the auto transmission. I piked one up last Friday and love it. Great value for the quality and performance.
Next time don't put a black bike against a row of white doors, it was like looking at a Rorschach test.
Put the bike over by that fence, then the doors become a huge light source giving you wonderful broad soft lighting on the bike while creating nice highlights on the reflective parts. Your review was great, just an offer of advice from some one with 40 years in the photo business.
Really nice bike. The Honda engine sounds really smooth. Hard to beat the Japanese bikes.
I dig it, would try both to see how they feel. I think having a dct bike in the garage along with a regular manual bike would be cool. Also I think sport mode will hold the gears longer.
“Maybe there is a full manual override, but I couldn’t find it...”
What on earth does he think that big fat A/M button will do? There’s no way you can overlook that.
it's TFL. the clowns of the review world.
Nice review Alex! You keep me informed and up to date on what is available and what bikes are like today. The tech. is WAY different from the last bike I rode. This DCT stuff has got to be extremely awkward to get used too. But I bet it would be fun! I LOVE the Rebels. Perhaps 1 day I will get back on the saddle. And when that happens, the Rebel has my eye. Thanks.
If you go high speeds with your phone attached the way you do, you'll probably experience a high speed wobble. Saw this on another vid.

@@CollinMCharles yes.
@@robmichael9089 "Phone wobble" XD

I'm sure you saw from his RUclips update but the reason why it wobbled was because he has his phone mount
So that disturbed the aerodynamics which led it to Wobble, for others looking at this comment go to Life Of Burch's video on that update
People should start making more reviews with the manual,I only found about 2 different (good) reviews with the manual...
On the right side there is the A/M (Auto / Manual) switch. If you select M it changes to manual shifting with the +/- buttons. Even in manual mode you can not stall the engine. When speed is reduced it will automatically downshift (like in auto mode). I have not tried the rebel but i have an Honda NC750X DCT with the same gearbox technology. My NC has 3 sportsmodes (S1,S2,S3 being the most sportiest). I prefer S1 for must of my driving. In D mode the DCT will upshift very early (for best economy) when your are light on the throttle. D = Dull mode :-)
Honda Rebels have been in the loop a long time. Never been a cruiser fan. I do like that bike. Interesting set up! Nice review Alex!
Yes but this Rebel is completely new and has nothing to do with any Rebel before it other than being styled like the 300/500. The old Rebels that date back to the 80’s are a completely different bike.
I wanna see a review of the manual transmission version, every review is the DCT version
Watch lifeofbirch h his is a standard
I think the one Yammienoob has is manual
I also have some videos with a manual version

I had a1986 Honda Shadow 1100 V twin for a few years rode the snot out of it.
I must say what a fantastic review of this Honda Rebel 1100 ! Everything I wanted to know and see, you talked about it, showed it and rode and demonstrated this amazing bike! One of the best overall reviews I have seen in some time. Thanks for this fabulous video and your input! A+++ !
You are so easily pleased!!
@roger… He didn’t even know how to use the manual mode. Don’t you find those things out BEFORE you ride???
Getting one as my first bike. Thanks
Beautiful landscapes your driving through. I use to be the camp host in Ojai California for a while, makes me miss the twisty canyon roads. If you haven’t ridden it yet check out. Hwy 33 in Ventura county
"Kind of a sporty cruiser .... Honda has a different approach on cruisers than other manufacturers I like it even though I'm not a cruiser guy" It's always about Alex when he does a review. I'd like to know how Honda is different on their cruisers than the other manufacturers? And how would Alex know since he doesn't like or ride them? This review would have been better if Kase had done the review since he seems to have sportster and cruiser roots.
I kinda like the sound on the stock exhaust.
I think this is the best cruiser on the market.
Hey, all your TFL channels are nice.
Can you do bikes mpg tests too?
Read the manual before you do a review
Loving the modern styling, it has all the features of a cruiser but no "retro" or classic element. I'm not a cruiser guy at all but I could see myself on that one.
Lol you have to actually put it in manual to continually shift, leave it in automatic and shift and it will kick back to auto in about 30 seconds. 🤷♀️
They got these 12 year olds on here giving us opinions like they been riding for years.... smh
It also has cruise control
Got mine a few months ago and love it
I love my 23!!!! DCT is awesome!!!!
The Honda Rebel has been around at least 30 years in one form or another.
Glade hes geting on it im realy intrested in this new rebel sense 500 and when i saw 500 ithought dam if only had more powere and now they make 1100 my favorit bike iv owned from croch rockets ducatis, harly davidson is honda 2002 sabre vt1100c
Learn sport mode settings to increase the revs!
How's the suspension. Felt stiff on 500. Hoping they improved it!
Looks like a Scrambler with H-D active ride.
Got the DCT for the Wife and I think its an awsome bike
I’ll take the old fashioned one down five up anyday.
It’s really not that difficult and I like the feeling of the direct engine connect in my hands
I'm sure everyone currently enjoying the DCT offering is lying awake at night, losing sleep, without your stamp of approval.
What about the seat comfort or lack thereof?
I like it but I’m waiting for the upcoming Sport Tourer with this engine.
Is this definitely happening? Any more info/dates? Thanks
Why does every review video show people using both hands to release the park brake? It is simple, your fingers on your left hand pull the lever up and the thumb on your left hand presses the release button. Let's just send the engineers back to the drawing board because for some reason motorcyclists can't figure out a really simple concept. The same as a Honda car. Pull back on the hand break to release the lock and use your thumb to disengage the brake.
To me this isn't a cruiser. It's a standard motorcycle. Also, shifting a motorcycle is a good part of the fun. Man, this Rebel is hard to look at.
It's bad enough having to put up with an auto tranny in my truck.. think I'll just stay with a clutch on my bike. To each his/her/Its own I suppose..
5 gallon tank plz
How does a little phone cause wobble!!!!!
I want to just put it in automatic and never shift gears again. I can do that with this model? Right?
@denis… Correct.
Great review. Like the bike. Listening him say bu'in instead of button over and over drove me nuts. Sorry...pet peeve of mine.
Hello Guys, does that bike vibrate alot at 80/90 mph.I am asking because i am riding royal enfield classic 350 2016 model.it is a single cylinder bike and does vibrate alot at 63 mph(100km/hr).First i was riding it locally but sometime i go highway, it not a highway bike . Too much vibration . I am planning to buy rebel 1100 .what will you guys recommend i want to use this bike for touring .i want to install saddle bags on it and travel Australian states.the reason to buy rebel 1100 is my height issue ,my height is 5'3".
Where is the passenger seat ?
If you choose to Shift Manually how & when can you shift to Neutral
In manual mode there is no neutral selection until you come to a stop. You will not be able to cruise down the road at speed and hit the neutral button in order to free wheel and then reengage the transmission either via auto mode or manual mode.
IT'S NOT A CRUISER. IT'S MORE OF A HYBRID. IT'S SPRITELY BUT HAS A REV LIMITER AT 100MPH.
Good looking bike.
It keeps itself in a higher gear for reduced engine wear over time & better gas mileage
@tele-gram--me--TFLbike cool
Camt wait to find one used for 6-7k. In a year or two.
Guess what? It's been more than a year and ..... they still cost $9-10k used lol.
SPORT mode?
Wish honda had a manual 6 speed tranny... wait a minute the do!! Common dude it is an state of the art automatic tranny, high tech , why it is never enough?
i know this scenery too well
“Maybe there is a full manual override, but I couldn’t find it...” Dude ... SERIOUSLY ????
Majority of the car drivers went from stick to auto years ago must feel the same way, weird. Now, very a few sticks are being made.
Can’t someone review the manual version? We don’t care about the DCT.
Nice
This is handy if you break your left leg or foot, but manual for me. I was cringing at the lack of control with the DCT. Seems like a hazard.
What aspect of this removes any control?
I like it
At 2:23, passing a car on the right while traffic is trying to merge from an onramp is a good way to get killed.
From this video i know i will not get the twin clutch
@linda… This is NOT the video you want to watch if you want to know how the DCT works.
yeah you're not doing it right. do some research
Anybody find some ape 🦍 hangers that work for it ????
damn
Same engine as the AT but the crank has been beefed-up for more low/mid-range shove. Yes, there is a full manual mode. Why would you buy the manual gearchange bike? If you want to change gear yourself, get the DCT and run it in manual mode. It's like changing gear with a quick shifter, only the shifter is on the bar. You needed to do your homework before you reviewed this bike.
Shifting gears manually is what bike riding is about but push buttons I think takes the fun out of it!
Not really
Then why do you need a motorcycle? Cant you just shift gears in a car if the only thing that matters is shifting?
I was going to offer you 5 laps in a formula one car, but you don't like paddle shifters, so never mind.....
A standard auto transmission in a car has no clutch, it uses a torque converter, which is why the shifts feel like they do. Honda's DCT has not 1 but 2 clutches. I mostly leave mine in manual mode and shift as I feel is best.
@@coreychristopher9867 I now have 3 DCT vehicles...a 2016 smart fortwo, 2020 Kia Forte GT, and a new 2021 Rebel 1100. Each are EXCELLENT.
I have heard there is a 100mph speed limiter on it. :(
Even if that is accurate, are that many people really going to want to go 100mph on this bike?
@@alexp6409 I would. 110 is sketch. 100 is what I call my daily commute.
@@alexp6409 in the ATL your either the ass or in the grass if your car/bike can't cruise 85+, they've stopped pulling over for speeding ITP, and it's dangerous if you can't keep up.
yes that it true but it gets there pretty fast
lol
the dual clutch looks boring to be honest. But the bike is very cool
Not a fan of the semi auto . Makes no sense being that the 1100 is a move up and into bike and then take away the manual transmission. Stupid.
You can get a manual 1100.
I agree automatic is like riding a scooter 🛵
There are two versions of the bikes 🤦🏻♂️ keep in mind, most folks have arthritis and still wish too ride, the auto is a no brainer.
@@carlosandrade7439 There is always a Rascal they can ride.
@@grabir01 Those don't do 85+ though.
Man that radiator is hideous
Direct injection.... deal breaker for me
It's a honda, they know how to make engines. Honda is the worlds largest engine manufacturer.
Don't care for this bike at all. Don't like the looks. The dash has way too much stuff for a cruiser that just isn't needed. Also this should have been belt drive at the least instead of chain.
yes belt and agree ugly everything
Seems like sport riders don't have problems with chains.
Why on earth would you want the WORST drive system (belt) ever put on a bike. You lose all the power you would with a shaft, and gain NONE of ease of maintenance. It is the easiest to break, and provides exactly zero benefits.
You don't lose any power over a shaft drive. I am not sure how you think a chain is less maintenance than a belt. I had a belt drive that I set the tension on when I changed tires and never had to do anything to it. Just sold it after 13 years and it still had the original belt going strong. Didn't have to clean and oil it. Didn't have to change the fluid like a shaft. I think a shaft drive would be good for this bike, but it would cost more. This bike doesn't have enough power to need a chain. I doubt you would ever break one. It is a cruiser, not a racing bike.
Well since the engine and transmission is from the African Twin, it's probably cheaper/easier for Honda.
Great video! Automatic just makes sense! Easy is good! Not stomping on you for this, but merely a suggestion, “Big Boy Rebel?” Who said this bike is a “boy?” Men and women ride motorcycles, so if you are going to address your “audience” I’d keep it neutral. Maybe it used to be cool to say, “dudes”, “boys”, “guys”, not so cool anymore. There is a large audience of people out there who are riding motorcycles. Maybe you aren’t trying to get a million views on your channel, and you have a specific audience you are trying to capture and it is just for the “boys.” Great review though.
Jesus christ dude, chill lol. Keep your WOKE cult beliefs to yourself.
Good lord some peoples children
