I’m the same way whenever anyone asks me what I do, as I do so much. The best answer I’ve come up with is that I’m a creative, but I’m also a teacher, a perfectionist and an editor. I like to do whatever I can learn how to do and have any interest in learning. I also have an interest in singing, but not to be a professional singer. However, I would like to do one singing video for my channel just so people can see that I have one more thing that I can do. This was a wonderful video and I learned a lot. It will help me to prepare for my singing video. Thanks also to your dear friends there for participating and sharing their expertise with all of us. ❤

Hi There, thanks for sharing your story, it means a lot to me. I hope you can bring your voice back to a place of joy for yourself alone. I'm really honored to have a positive impact on your life 💗
I cried reading your reply. I am so happy you are working on getting joy back in your life. There is a good voice teacher called on YT, Madeleine Harvey, whose videos you might use to brush up. I hope you get to sing: join a choir, join Sweet Adeline’s, or some local singing groups. My Mom escaped a horribly abusive relationship and spent the rest of her life pursuing those parts of her she had to push deep down. I wish you happier days, singing or sewing or whatever you enjoy.
@@rajivsurendranay nay, my fair and fine gentlemen. You ride a bike and you work out with weights. And your ability with conversation and how you treat others is far above any sport game, indeed.
@@rajivsurendra: Hahahaha ! 😂 me too ! But I can’t sing or play any musical instruments. You are fortunate that you were allowed to try many things and have parents who support your process in your artistry. Me … I am too cautious and practical. LOL . Enjoying your channel.
Rajiv, your humor in honesty is a light. I remember once I felt so depressed that I decided inorder to save myself I need to sing or learn piano as I did abit in childhood. It really was about saving my soul.
Singing in death, thats so beautiful. It inspired me to imagine what other art could be done in death A last painting? A last tinkling of the piano, trailing off as you take your last breath, a photo of those gathered around you. So beautiful, thank you Rajiv ❤ ❤
I've always been soft spoken but loved to sing by myself. Tried taking lessons in my mid 20's but found it very emotional. I would get choked up. It's vulnerable to sing but a great release and expression
When I was a child, I also used to sing a lot. I've thought about how everything is vibration, and not matter like we used to think. We ourselves have a specific vibration, and I believe that singing elevates our own vibration, which in turn makes us more loving and kind.
Rajiv✨☺️🤗🧚🏼 I didn’t think your channel could get even better…but it does. By your generous Soul, inviting us more and more into the nuances of your daily life and your aspirations. And thus, sharing the most beautiful connection you build with yourself and other fellow artists. Thank you so much ✨🙏💖
Ah! This is so lovely to see! When my students sing from a place of deep joy, they honour the music, the text, the composer and me! Being a singing teacher is HARD - sometimes I feel more like a therapist than a voice teacher. But when a student sings straight from their heart, no matter how technically proficient, something mysterious and magical happens. If everyone in the world sang together, our hatred and greed would turn to love and generosity. I will stand by that statement until my deathbed - upon which I will be singing Richard Strauss, Mozart, Puccini, Poulenc, Schubert, Britten……. 😊
I used to sing a lot, It was the love of my life, then, because of some questions, I just sang less and less, til sometimes I remained muted for one whole week, to the point I could not reach the notes as high as I used to reach, and it made me so sad. That video made me wanna cry, and I laughed all the time, I had goosebumps when I listened to you singing. I love you, Rajiv, for making me see, once again, how beautiful and liberating singing is.
When I was once at a real lowpoint in my life, a friend told me to "just sing, whenever you're feeling sad, just open your mouth and sing." It really helped me get better.
OMG, my worlds are colliding. Rajiv, I have followed you since your youtube video about your apartment showed up a few years ago. I am also a professional opera singer teaching at the Eastman School of Music. From a fellow aesthete: please keep sharing your beauty and your love of beauty with this world that so desperately needs it.
Rajiv, oddly enough, about 20 years ago I took private singing lessons with an opera singer as I wanted to sing correctly since I singing was a stress reliever that I did daily. I listen to and sing R&B and Gospel. I thought I could learn how to properly hold notes without almost passing out, etc. Unfortunately she had a distaste for gospel singers, unbeknownst to me and sent me an email suggesting I try something else. I did learn one valuable lesson from her, be sure to do research and interview (if possible), the instructor was $40 for a half hour lesson which was quite pricy for me at that time. But it was important to me, so I invested $1,000 into myself and have not forgotten the lesson of doing my research before leaping. I’m glad you found someone so nurturing and knowledgeable! Now I’m going to sing until my company arrives to get my fix for today! Stay fabulous and keep the videos coming!
I felt the same way …. I didn’t want to be a professional singer or ever even have an audience. I just have always loved the way singing feels in my body. I would watch/listen to great singers and think how fun it must be to be able to manipulate the voice like that and really let go and soar. Some people like to play sports, I like to sing. It’s been so gratifying to make progress and find “my” voice and have this whole new instrument to play with. Another thing I love about learning HOW to sing properly is that when you learn techniques, your ear is more sensitive to them and you can hear more nuance in what the singer your listening to is doing with their voice. You get more out of the music you already love. It’s really cool. What a fantastic teacher. Really fun to watch this. Thank you all for sharing with us 😊
This uploaded at a nice time. I was tidying up my clothes drawer just now and thinking about how I enjoyed hearing you sing while doing some other things in earlier videos of yours. Thank you for another joyful video, Rajiv and Laura! 😊
Laura was such a fun and charming guest, as well as a great coach!! This has inspired me to revisit the opera as soon as my wallet allows. Could you do a video about how you find people to study under and learn from? You cultivate such incredible connections, I’d love to do the same. Thanks for sharing so much with us!
Rajiv, not only you're an amazing human and artist, you SHARE that with the whole world and motivate people to be better versions of themselves! Such a noble person! Thank you! Cheers!
Oh Rajiv, this was wonderful! I completely agree with you that everyone should sing, whether you think you can or not. I used to sing in a children's' choir and in high school chorus, but hadn't sung in decades. At a certain point I was shocked to realize that I could barely produce a note anymore, so at the age of seventy I found a singing teacher and with much trepidation started to learn how to sing again, and it's been so much fun and so rewarding. Tante mille grazie for this fantastic video! Your teacher is great and what a gorgeous voice (both of you)!!
O mio babbino caro, (my favourite aria by Puccini, especially when sung by Maria Callas). I can't believe, Rajiv, that your gift today would make me so happy! Thank you, thank you a thousand times! And Evan Fein? So sentimental (I went to Spotify to discover his music). Last but not least, your teatcher! So pure, her voice!
Props to the camera-person and editor for capturing the moment (around minute 5:00) where the frame is on the pianists' fingers playing and the singers face is captured in the ebony reflection on the piano. Beautifully done. Thank you. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

What an amazing teacher and an amazing student! I have a degree in voice and yet I'm still afraid to sing (alone) in front of people. My older sister was a child musical prodigy and, being the relatively later bloomer and the youngest in a whole family of musicians, I internalized a lot of feelings of inferiority that I've spent many years working through. Singing in choirs or behind the piano have always been my comfort zone, just enough "cover" to hide behind, while still doing what I love. The idea of filming one of my lessons and putting it up on RUclips for a big audience is utterly terrifying to me. Seeing you share so freely helps shift that fear in me. Thank you, as always, for sharing your gifts in this precious way that encourages and reminds us all of our own. 💛
I use to sing my heart out sitting between mom & dad with my 5 brothers sitting in the back seat of our Cadillac. They pleaded Dad to make me stop... Dad said let him sing. I worked it for all it was worth! ❤️🙏
Fabulous. I could listen to you and Laura all day long. Rajiv, you sure have the creative gene in spades and I love waiting to see what you are going to tackle next.
I actually thought Rajiv was lip sinking. Oh my goodness what a beautiful voice he has!!! Enjoyed everything about this video. Spoken from one who can’t carry a tune in a bucket, but I sure appreciate those who have the gift!
I adore you, Rajiv My almost 19 year old grandson is gay and I told him about ur RUclips show. He is much loved by his whole family! U r one special person!
I sing at home. I dont show it to most people, except for my dad who hears it sometimes and my best friend, because we used to sing to together in school and still listen to each other from time to time. Just after I had my little singing session today, your video popped up in my timeline and it felt like a sign, if not a great coincidence. Perhaps it is time to give my passion a bit more attention and care, so I can keep singing to me and other people I love ❤
I sang in choir through most of grade school, and then stopped, except for singing to myself now and then. I started singing karaoke online about a year ago, and I don't ever want to stop. I realize now how much I missed it.
His voice isn't one of rare beauty but you can tell from every muscle and line that is he enjoying every minute of the act of singing. He does because he enjoys not because of a gift of voice which is so incredibly rare and absolutely amazing.
You are so delightful, possibly my favourite person I haven't met (look out Isaac Mizrahi). The love, joy, and inspiration you bring to dilettantes everywhere is so commendable! Thank you
Loved the way you plunged into this musical duet with your friend and mentor with so much emotion, joy and sincerity. It was wonderful watching you surrender your inner self to music and sing with so much passion. Loved every minute.
Rajiv, as usual you bring more peace and joy into the world, because you teach the rest of us how to do/be whatever we want to be- and, how to enjoy and love these new talents and gifts. Thank You Rajiv!
This is remarkable. I can’t sing a lick, but we were in Tuscany having dinner with friends and opera was playing in the background. Don’t know what overtook me but I started singing opera, it was hilarious, so hilarious that a practically peed myself laughing. Everyone was in shock, and one of the guests thought I was an opera singer..which totally put me over the edge choking with laughter. Maybe I’ll take a lesson and see if the spirit that possessed me will come back to sing again. 😮
Just three days ago, I was encouraging a friend to take singing lessons. Now I find your segment on this very subject done in your most pleasing and informative way! Thank you, Rajiv. You are truly inspiring. Oh, I also see that you have painted those beautiful doors in the hallway in a a gold faux molding effect. Can you show us how to do that?
Thank you! I actually make a video with HGTV showing how I did the chalk art on that very door! You can seach "A Beginner's Guide to Chalk Art with Rajiv Surendra" in the RUclips search bar.
Dang Rajiv. Now you have inspired me to consider adding vocal lessons to my guitar lessons. Did I mention I am 70? The wife of my guitar teacher teaches vocals, so it would not be that hard.

i cant believe i found out about Rajiv in a totally random way and now i am just fascinated about how awesome he is
This was a joy to watch. Rajiv’s singing teacher seems so genuine and fun.
How did you know this idea was in my head!?
This was absolutely riveting! Thank you so much!
Thank you for this, Rajiv. You are a delight.
Wow! Beautiful! You are amazing!
Wow! What a wonderful teacher! What a talent!
Holy Moly is there anything that you can’t do superbly!
Your voice is so soothing, Rajiv, it really helps me to calm down. Thank you!
Can this be a series? She is amazing I love her
We need more Rajiv in this world.
I use to sing my heart out sitting between mom & dad with my 5 brothers sitting in the back seat of our Cadillac. They pleaded Dad to make me stop... Dad said let him sing. I worked it for all it was worth! ❤️🙏
Wow, Rajiv. What can't you do ? ! ! !
Beautiful !
Fabulous. I could listen to you and Laura all day long. Rajiv, you sure have the creative gene in spades and I love waiting to see what you are going to tackle next.
You are incredibly talented person. So glad you have your channel opened and sharing your talent and positive energy with the world. ❤️🙏❤️
Thank you kindly, your singing brought sweet tears to my eyes. Music for the soul.
I actually thought Rajiv was lip sinking. Oh my goodness what a beautiful voice he has!!! Enjoyed everything about this video. Spoken from one who can’t carry a tune in a bucket, but I sure appreciate those who have the gift!
Omg that was so beautiful. Seeing how a singing lesson go. Love it. She is amazing. I loved watching this
P.S. And I cannot forget the piano man how his grace of his hands with the keys ...so beautiful.
I adore you, Rajiv

You have done so much with time in your life that I know I have wasted too much time putting off doing or afraid to do.
never too late
never too late
This was wonderful. I began taking voice lessons 13 months ago. It is difficult, but rewarding.
Soo magical and authentic…love the show
Rajiv , you are incredible , You have an amazing voice .
Rajiv: a true renaissance man. what an inspiration to learn new things.
I'm enjoying all these new videos so much! Each one is a wonderful surprise. Can't wait til the next one 😊
Wow her voice is amazing and together with you really beautiful...WOW!
Thank you for this video. I was singing right along. Please bring Laura back for another video!
Great singing voice, Rajiv! Don't ever stop. You are one person of many talents. I love when you sing.
I wish I had just a fraction of his passion! I’m in awe.
How can one man be so multi-talented ! Truly blessed
Dang Rajiv. Now you have inspired me to consider adding vocal lessons to my guitar lessons. Did I mention I am 70? The wife of my guitar teacher teaches vocals, so it would not be that hard.
Yay!!! Yes, do it!!!
The adorableness of Rajiv.
I wish you would do a piece on Geoffrey Bawa. He was such a visionary. Had the honor of visiting several of his properties unforgettable.
Rajiv, that was fantastic! Laura is a very very good teacher!
I have my first singing class tomorrow ! So looking forward to it
Rajiv, you sound great! What a great lesson.
Is there anything you can't do Rajiv? You are very talented person. God bless you and guide you in everything you do.❤
