- Antiquing...thrifting...treasure-hunting; Rajiv takes this activity very seriously, having objects in his life that are beautiful, useful and also meaningful all at the same time. Rajiv's home is made up of a mix of both new and old things - furniture, tools, utensils and linens that have been carefully acquired over the years. These objects were often made with pride, care and attention to form, giving them timeless beauty.
Sifting through antiques-or junk-can be overwhelming if you're not accustomed to the process, but today Rajiv shares the approach to his favorite leisure activity when he's out of town.

Rajiv's videos are like Mr. Rogers for adults. I find them soothing and educational. He is so present, appreciative, and joyful. Full of knowledge. I say yay!
Exactly what I was thinking! Mr. Rogers for adults. His soothing voice and inflections. His videos are nostalgic for me.
We might as well call him Mr. Surendra
Bethany, present?
OMG yes he is!! Perfect comparison!!
@@SisterShirley To be present means to be in the moment, to connect with others :)
He roasted the bowl so hard it jumped to the next dimension
Lol!!! 😂
You handled breaking that bowl sooo much better than I would have. I would've passed away on the spot 😅
i haven't got to the part where he breaks the bowl but now that i've read this comment i can't help but hold my breath everytime he picks something up
@@rishita7944 same here😳😱
This comment stressed me out the entire video
for anyone stressed out it happens at 16:57 , he drops a modern bowl while comparing it to an actually antique one! so if ur reading this thread before watching do not worry :)
And i love that it wasn't edited out. ❤
Thank you for not editing out that little mishap. That was so ‘real’ of you. I have more respect for you than ever. ❤
I really appreciate that you encourage people to value craft, things crafted. From decor to everyday meals. It's refreshing and inspiring.
His feelings toward the modern bowl manifested 😭
I love your appreciation for things and the way you describe the beauty in details. I've never been so interested in a yellow bowl and glazing in my life. Thank you Rajiv, for teaching me to see beauty in little things.
Thank you for watching, Cythina! I've loved those bowls since I was a kid.
Taste may not be the same but the feeling and happiness of a find is. The added knowledge is also a bonus. Love your videos❤
I could watch hours of Rajiv shopping for antiques. It's relaxing, interesting, educational... He's such a delight.
I love how considerate you are to speak softly in the place of business. Just another layer of how cool you are.
WHATSUP GUYS TODAY WE'RE IN INDIANA AND WE'RE ON THE H U N T !
LET'S SEE WHAT THIS OLD ANTIQUE MALL HAS IN STORE AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN SCORE A FEW TREASURES SO STAY TUNED!!!
*hand aggressively high fives camera lens then smash cut* - most RUclipsrs today
When you dropped that bowl, I literally yelled, "OH SHIT!!!". I love antiquating so much that I'm in the process of open a vintage/antique shop. I just unpacked an entire box of various sizes and colors of Yellowware bowls (about 25 pieces) that I purchased from an estate auction for $20. I didn't know much about them so was thrilled (once again) to watch your video. For anyone reading this who'd like to start collecting, estate sales and online auctions are a great way to get started also. Often the prices are much less because people overlook items. One of my best recent finds is a collection of 75 pieces of 1930's uranium glass (that glows under a black light) that I got for $100. Oh geez...I could go on and on and on...
Tell me more! What other delightful treasures have you found for great prices? 😍
Where do you view online auctions?
Your excitement is contagious. I thought I was the only one that got this excited about old things.
'My Dinner with Rajiv'
I was so low energy today- was talking myself into being sick or something- then, I began making Dahl with Rajiv, then I kept watching until now I feel excited to be alive! Thank you Rajiv!!!!
Rajiv is the Mister Rogers of RUclips and I'm here for it.
I adore Rajiv’s videos. The approach of curating the things you use everyday means one can have a minimal, clutter free home of high quality with every object is infused with a story or the memory of a place one has travelled.
I like that he is teaching folks to appreciate things NOT made of plastic. Our world is choking on plastic.
@@m.maclellan7147 it truly is, choking is exactly the right word 😔
Rajiv, sometimes watching your video in the morning just changes my mood and makes my day so much better. Thank you!
Thanks for watching, Connie!
I could watch you talk about antiques all day! Please make this a series! ❤️
If I was shopping and turned around and saw Rajiv I’d be so excited! He’s someone I’d love to shop with or have dinner with, etc.. The most interesting person I wish I knew. 🦋
I've learned my style through estate sale shopping. I've learned so much about America history and culture by doing this. I research everything that I buy. I have dialed back and now only look for special things that will serve me.
More of this, please!!! I learned so much!
I LOVE antiquing! I love that each item has its own history. Incidentally, McCoy pottery is one of my favorites to find because I propagate houseplants, then pot them in a little McCoy and it's a perfect housewarming gift. Also, I think it's important to think outside of the box when it comes to how things can be used. Crystal serving trays are so pretty to display jewelry in, and a ceramic cookie jar will sometimes make a good plant pot. Get creative!
love these ideas :)
I’ve been collecting the animal planters and Dutch children….just because.
@@marylhere they're so beautiful! Don't you just love finding a new one for a great price in some romantic, dusty little shop?
@@lizzies9307 I have a kangaroo with a broken tail but the plant covers the glued crack….$1 at a garage sale.
Oh my goodness, I’m so excited. The very first video I watched of yours was the tour of your house and as I was watching it, I thought to myself, I wish I could go antiquing with this guy! So you are making my wish come true, Rajiv! Thank you, truly! Much love from Texas.
Yay! Yes, today you're going antiquing with me, Jenny!
I was sooo happy when you found the dog bowl!! What are the odds?! Talk about kismet😊 Please continue this antiquing series!!! I could watch you go antiquing for HOURS🧡🧡🧡🧡
love this 21 minute video of Rajiv geeking out about antique yellow bowls🥰
rajiv, I just found your channel a few days ago and it has made me so happy. I don’t think i’ve ever found another person that i’ve related /connected to so much in a sense that I, too, have about 15 different and very strange hobbies, and a fascination with history. I would love to see you do a video on oil painting in the future!
You sound like a really interesting person! Strange hobbies and a healthy dose of curiosity make for the very best people I think ☺️ I bet you'd be a fantastic penpal
@@lizzies9307 Thank you so much Lizzie! I agree with you that an array of hobbies makes for the best type of people. I try to surround myself with people who are very passionate and whom I can learn new ideas from. I just started my first year of college after moving out of my hometown and it’s been a huge turning point in my life, just feeling the freedom to try new things and find myself. It’s so funny you mention the pen pal thing, i’ve been wanting a pen pal for so long, just had no idea how i’d go about finding one! It’s been so long since i’ve used my writing abilities (they are quite lacking) but I love the idea of communicating the old fashioned way.. its such a beautiful practice that seems so rare today.
I was lucky enough to have a grandmother from New York born in 1910. My African-American family was from New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania since they were colonies. She gave me old kitchenware and furniture. She had some neat silverware that is stainless on the business end with silver plated handles. I bought several pieces of silver plated tableware on my own too. I don’t have any sterling silver, like Rajiv, but my silver plated flatware is very beautiful and ornate. Now I see why the servants were incessantly polishing the silver in the movies.
I knew in my gut when you tucked one bowl in your elbow while demonstrating the other something was going to happen, so when it did happen later I was so shocked! They were both in your hand grasp, so my shock was how differently it happened than I expected!! A lesser man would've walked away and not paid for it, so kudos to you. Bless your heart. It's happened to the best of us, not for lack of caution. Fate says "drop the crappy bowl!"
Great video, though. I am a huge thrift store treasure seeker so I can relate to the focus and the glee of finding something!
I'm glad that we are all showing Rajiv love, but also, but also want to say that everyone in these comment sections seem like incredible, interesting people. At the very least I know you all have great taste and know a good thing when you see it 😉 I love reading comments where people share their own connections to whatever Rajiv is teaching us about, and would love to learn more about each of you 😊
Oh no Rajiv - I said out loud to myself “don’t hold it like that, you’ll drop it” 😢 That said you handled it so well. I am so keen to go antiquing in the USA. The last time I was there was 2004 for a wedding and the people I was with were not into antiques or vintage and I relied on them to get around. Five whole weeks in CT and on the Cape with NO antiquing 😩 Thank you for taking me on this vicarious shopping trip - I saw many of things I liked, but my wallet is still full ❤
How DID you ever survive?
Oh NO. There is such great antiquing in CT! I feel bad that you missed it. 😟
The older yellow bowl probably wouldn't have broken so easily too. I have acquired most everything I own second hand. Love antiquing!
That solid feeder with delightful circus font is fire emoji. I need one for my DOG.
What a treat it is to get a new video from you! This could definitely be a series I would enjoy.
I so agree with the idea that you remember and reminisce about those found objects that give you pleasure. When we lived in Barbados, I would go to estate sales and antique stores and lose myself in these places for hours at a time. Today when I use them or even just touch them they bring me joy. As always Thank You Rajiv.
Love love your endless knowledge about antiques, arts and so so much more..your passion to share is a gift in itself..more of these video!!!!😀😀😀😀😀
I enjoyed this video so much that I don't want it to end. Please do more antiquing videos. Love your personality.
I love antiques. I look around the house and imagine who had these items in the past, how they were used and what their homes looked like.
I hope you brought the pieces of pottery home to use in the bottom of plant pots. There will always be the story at the bottom of the plant. Great video. You are fascinating.
I love this video! My whole house is filled with vintage finds and it’s so true what you said that you always remember where and when you found a great piece ya just love ! I can go around my house and remember all the places and how much ! Everyone always says omg how do ya dust it all and I always say I know but it makes me so happy when I look around and see all my fun vintage finds !!
Your willpower is astounding! It's sooo dangerous for me to walk into a thrift store or antique store. I have much to learn from you and need to start processing why my purchase is justified! I love learning sensibility from you! Thank you :)
I was thinking the same thing while I was watching. So much restraint!
I love old mason jars as well I always find some thrifting , I also like thrifting baskets for storage
I do wish we would go back to manufacturing things of quality and appreciating items of quality. I was inspired by Rajiv’s channel that after moving into my home, i ditched the love seat that was adorned with cat claws used throughout my years in medical school and furnished my entire living room with items from FB marketplace and craigslist. Thank you for creating such a wonderful and relaxing channel.
I’ll be on the look out for a Dog bowl made in Ohio.
I love that you’re soft spoken, not talking at the top of your lungs, and the way you look at objects as works of art, value and treasure them. I do the same. My home is a sanctuary too. I’m so glad I found your channel.
I was just starting my breakfast when your notification popped up …thanks for joining me 😁! I love that you inspire me to pay attention to details that otherwise will go unnoticed. I will never see a dog bowl like I used to; and I don’t even have a dog 🤷🏻♀️.
I'm really loving your videos Rajiv. Breaking that repro bowl is one of the most hilarious things I have ever seen! Demonstrates (although maybe not intentionally) its brittleness and cheapness. In contrast, the old bowl was made to last and would have survived that fall. As you quoted your german friend in another video, "we are too poor to buy cheap things." I've been on a similar path since I was a teenager and I'm now 65. I have purged things as I learned more, and eventually lost interest in some former collecting obsessions, but still have kept many pieces -- even small weird little objects which are important to me which embody the memories of my life. I've never tired of the hunt and seeing your videos feels so familiar -- like finding a new friend you have "known" forever. Thank you!
So true about scanning being mentally exhausting when antique shopping
So much fun...
How did I just find this channel. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!?!
Hi Rajiv! I am hooked on your video's for a week now. You are the sweetest person and always so expressive and appreciative of the old time craftmenship, details and design. I'm tickled each time you referance Pioneer Village as I am from Peterborough Ontario and know it well. When you were speaking of knowing where every treasure comes from and what you were thinking of when finding it, it made me think of my rocks. I have loaded down my backpack while hiking with 50lb rocks and the tiniest pebbles and I know why I selected each one and where it came from...and I have a whole landscape filled with them! I now live in Calgary Alberta and am so thankful that we were encouraged to look and question the beauty in nature and all things created. Love you and your channel so much :)
This is one of my favorite of your vids yet! A needed antidote to the chaotic and consumerist “thrift hauls”. And so educational! I found a yellow ware bowl at a Midwestern antique mall during grad school and brought it home but had no idea what it was. I just went to see if it had the unglazed lip, and indeed it did. Love knowing more about it now! Would love this to be a series
I always check you out. So nice to see a young person who values quality . I’d like to know more about you, though where you were brought up, Where your parents are? Where have you been? What you’ve done etc.
You can see the slight irregularity of the older yellow ware bowl. Gives it such amazing character.
Yes, I love those bowls for that reason. That older bowl is kind of 'warped'.
Rajiv, you are so wonderfully soothing, and your joy of making "the find" is contagious. 😊 I love watching your videos and learning from you. I've started paying more attention to vintage linens because I so adored the beautiful pieces that you shared when putting together your guests sleeping area. I loved that! ❤
I share your love for the scanning, the search, the observation and delight in the find. Whether the piece becomes a purchase or not, just seeing these things brings happiness. Antiques shops and flea markets are one of the best ways to scratch this itch. Totally relate to your love of finely crafted pieces. Thank you Rajiv!
Omg, can you just take us antiquing with you every time you go? This is better than antiques roadshow!
Haha, no way it’s better than AR. The British one right?
You are so right! When I’m hunting and picking I scan, I do the sweep, then laser focus, then step back and recheck, I go from side to side on aisles to look back!! And it is exhausting for your brain to sort!
I wanted to come on the comments and tell you that your channel is informative, i like how you really explain it. So many just go so fast. I have learned so much from you. Thank you so much, I’m a voracious gardener so if your into that i can’t wait! ❤❤❤ from LA CA!❤❤❤
He lives in an apt. in NYC, so I think it would be house plants or some plants out on the fire escape ! I also live in an apt., & do the best I can with a sunny stoop !
Before regulation in 1969, most crystal glass contained around 36% lead, per Dusty Old Thing; since then, glassblowers have generally considered 24% lead standard. Today, according to Gurasu Fine Crystal, any glass that contains between 10% and 24% should be labeled as crystal glass. This is why i go for modern Mason and Libby glasses and bormioli glasses
Oh Rajiv, I know this is an old vlog, but my heart jumped too when you broke that bowl. I can imagine you must be shaking from the guilt of braking something precious even if it was a newer bowl that the older version. I am accident prone and my aunt used to say how I must had been holding those house lizards eggs that must have caused it. Thank you for showing you are human too. ❤ ❤ from Malaysia.
I can literally watch Rajiv's videos several times (specifically the antiquing ones) and learn something new each time. He is such a fountain of information. His energy and passion are so infectious and endearing respectively. I literally take note of all his recommendations and treat them as gospel.
I am from Europe and did not know the presenter, what a talent, what a camera presence , Wow.
The antique malls are fun. I’d love to see you shop an estate sale 😅. Another fun vlog-thanks for taking us along.
I’m so bummed I came to the comments as I started watch…every time you picked up a bowl I was holding my breath. I was so relieved when you dropped the bowl I could relax! I love your videos…and you!
Thank you for emphasizing how much joy you can find in admiring items even if they're not coming home with you. That's one of my favorite things about shopping, especially antiquing, is just seeing everything, appreciating it and then it's a bonus when I find things that I want to bring home with me. I've always said the same thing, that it's like a museum and I'm so glad places like this exist because I do not have a house big enough to have rooms and rooms full of things I wish I could collect :-) I have to pick and choose what stays in my space but I can always get my fix of admiring and touching these things at an antique mall! And then bonus, sometimes I find a few things to bring home :-) When I was little, I always used to point things out to my dad and he would scold me saying you can't use that or we don't need that or we can't afford that and I would try and explain to him that I was just admiring it because I thought it was a good idea or it was pretty it didn't mean I wanted to bring it home or that I was asking him to buy it for me I just liked seeing things that I thought were cool and I was trying to share the experience with him but of course he just thought I was asking him to buy me all sorts of things I didn't need 😆
It´s awesome how the bowl felt it´s lack of uniqueness and just broke. Objects perceive our words and energy. Love Rajiv´s magic.
I've gone to antique stores and antique malls all across Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Virginia, and more. It is one of my favorite past times and my favorite things to do when I travel.
I so enjoy watching how excited you get when you find the “right” piece! I agree completely with your appreciation of the old, beautifully made items. Appreciate the hell out of them, ‘cos they’re disappearing and so is the knowledge that they are deserving of that appreciation! Thank you for your videos, you’re the best. From Annie, in (sunny) Cornwall, UK.🙂🌸
What an absolute joy to watch your beautiful content.
You have perfectly described the many ways antiques add to your life. Every little thing you do becomes a celebration when you have old things. They have soul that new things do not possess. I grew up in a house with antiques and my home is the same. We refer to items by the name of the person they came from (in the case of inherited items.) It helps us remember those who came before us and gives the items we use every day a personality and a place in our home. Thank you for taking your viewers along on your treasure hunt!
Rajiv is my person and he doesn’t even know it! He makes me smile and want to be more creative in how I live. Yes, a Mister Rogers for adults does come to mind!
God, I love antique and junk shops. And flea markets. It’s so much fun finding little treasures, especially for a good price.
"Some may call this junk. Me, I call them treasures."
I literally just today told my sister that his videos are like Mr. Rogers for adults and that they are so comforting!
Antiquing with Rajiv is like watching an artist
You are so adorable. Thanks for leaving in that you dropped the bowl. I wanted to hug you. I love antiquing too. Thanks for sharing your day. ❤️
Rajiv, the fisherman sweater you're wearing here, is truly beautiful. Like you, I cherish the moments when I come across great finds in charity or antique shops. Someone's trash can be someone else's treasure, as they say.
Thank you, Mia. This one was knitted for me in Yorkshire...I love it so much.

I'm glad we are never going to be in the same antique store together, we seem to gravitate toward the same things. I felt so bad for you dropping that bowl, but admired and respected that you left that in. We see too many people today trying to give us an illusion of life as perfection. I find humans much more likeable and relateable. Thank you so much for your wonderful channel.
'.... just the thrill of picking it up, look at it, seeing it in perfect condition, that in itself is a joy'
I often compare an antique store to a museum. It's fun to know I'm not alone😊 Thank you!
Watched the first 3 minutes and already have to comment. Thank you Rajiv for your insight on how this is "work." I go into a mode of following my instincts, scanning, evaluating, feeling things with my hands, getting ideas, taking notes sometimes. It's a flow state for me, but maybe less social for my friends!
So glad I watched this video. I went yesterday and bought some treasures that are silver plated but gorgeous for my needs. As I was leaving I saw a three piece set of yellow bowls. I didn’t pick them up but did check the price ($125.00) but I decided to not purchase them yet. If they are still there I will take a better look before purchasing.
What I did purchase I took home and researched them. This was my first venture into antique shopping. Now I’m hooked! It’s amazing what you can repurpose to a room. I’m currently remodeling my guest bathroom and the pieces I found are gorgeous to merge the new to the old. Thank you this has been a lot of great information.
I gasped when the bowl dropped.
I love old ceramic mixing bowls, especially striped ones. I went the practical route and bought stainless mixing bowls with silicone-coated bottoms several years ago. They were inexpensive, won’t scratch my surfaces, are easy to clean, and I never have to worry about damaging them. I can always look at the ceramic ones on the internet. 🥰
I too always have that serious look scanning the items but having fun. It's the thrill of the hunt. I learned something today about yellow ware bowls. Thank you. Interesting to know why they have the unglazed rims
Actually in Finland where i live i sometimes see people with woven baskets in grocery stores, and me too sometimes use one, and it is very practical because stuff doesnt role around or fall on top of one another.
LOL I was feeling anxious watching you handling those bowls… lo and behold you drop one at the very end 😂
Rajiv, my mom was SO INVESTED in your video and your enthusiasm with antiques, that when you dropped the bowl, my mom’s reaction was *GASP* 😱😱😱
Glad u love the Roseville bowls.
My mom has those she took us to Roseville and bought us some glazed tiki God cups from an Ohio Oceania theme restaurant called the Kahiki. Vtg so it is gone now.
Nice to c you and nice to c you love old Ohio clay
Allen, Michigan is one of the most concentrated areas for antiques I've ever seen. So much fun!
I love that you are wearing the gansey sweater from a previous video ❤
Oh Rajiv, we are kindred spirits! Every one of your videos speaks to my soul. Thank you for shining a light on all things old and beautiful! 🙏🏼
I love how quietly you talk lmao. I treat the antique store kind of like a museum and always speak softly in there.
I love your serious wild eye face as you scan. I can tell when you spot something, it's like a light flows over you.
"Scanning is mentally exhausting" Absolutely! The concentration is real 👀 Great video Thank you
Antique malls are the best, thanks for sharing your favorite things
I antique the same way. I have gotten so excited about things I've found that I never went in looking for. Those are my favorite things. And when the price is good, or on sale even better. And the memories you get from seeing something from your childhood are priceless.
When that bowl broke....omg. so funny!!!! I cried.
OH NO that bowl!!! Ugh, my heart sank! Thank goodness it was the "new" version! Like you, I LOVE antiquing and thrifting for that perfect little treasure for me...or a friend!
Proper antique shops give me so stress. The variety of pieces packed into a small space gives off hoarder energy even though I understand why the stores are laid out that way. I feel an obligation to evaluate each piece so I don't disregard a treasure, but scanning for the objects that speak to you feels like a better approach for beginners.
Smiling from ear to ear. What a kindred spirit. 😊😊😊😊
I KNEW something was going to happen! Now I want to (carefully) visit an antiques place today
I can't believe I catch a new upload this early! Lovely one, Rajiv!
