Scotland doesn't have its own military and the SAS are part of the "British" army so you join them then you get referred to as a brit.
Everyone else refers to the UK military as the "Brits".

God bless the SAS. May God bless John since he left the world in 2011. I served as an army infantryman with the 101st airborne division, serving two combat tours, one in Iraq and one in afghanistan. Our equivalent is delta force which charging Charlie beckwith created after learning from the SAS. These men are the finest and we salute them

The Colour is (in the words of an ex SAS relative) 'to scare the living shit out of the enemy, think about it, you're gonna see a black outline and a gas mask, you can't sit and say that that figure blasting through a door, window or even wall isn't gonna make you jump and hesitate for a few seconds'
Would depend on the situation and the preparation beforehand, it can go to complete random outcomes, but, although marines are also trained in this field, SAS are specifically trained with hostage rescue situations in mind, and spend time to 'rehearse' the situation in mockups of the building they're called into action to

+ryeable the French example was a fortunate result. If you compare that attempt to the SAS led Luthansa rescue, where they used diversion tactics, and the stun grenade to gain the element of surprise. With proper thought out entry points.. it was fast and very successful.
As for your comment about stun grenades and pulling the trigger... They tried this experiment on the German soldiers who had never witness a stun grenade situation... They challenged the SAS to a scenario in a confined room. The SAS chucked the grenade in, and when the entered, the Germans were all over the place, on the floor, and had no idea what was going on. So yes they can stop you pushing the trigger...
Unlikely to run out of Stun grenades.. As a whole troop has more than enough between them.. And they do not waste them, if they know they cannot throw them into the rooms. As it spoils the element of surprise and disorientation. And they can still gain entry without stun grenades and cause chaos as a coordinated unit...

Stun grenades were used very effectively at the Iranian Embassy and Luthansa rescue and many others undertaken by the SAS and the SBS since. Along side this, controlled explosions for more than one location, which in themselves cause mass confusion as well as entry availability. Other methods included diverting aircraft deliberately over the hostage building (as used at the Iraninan Embassy) to create noise, to allow surveillance equipment to be drilled..most significant building threats are electronically stored at UK SF's hq where such data can be obtained..
It is the level of preparation that can be used in certain situations An SBs operative, who was not given credit publicly, was used to help locate and prepare tactics to attack Bin Laden.
.. However, the stun grenade is not the primary skill requisite used by our SF's to overcome terrorists.. Just a very effective tool, if used in the correct way. If a stun grenade goes off in a confined space, where they were designed to be used, then they can cause enough confusion to divert the terrorist for a coupled of seconds. long enough to shoot them. Obviously, it is not a guarantee, and other methods, including speed, and multi entry etc must be utilised as well.. the only sure way of someone being unable to pull the triggers is the sweet spot between the eyes, which has a low probability of ever being hit in reality... hence emptying a magazine into them instead...
If the US ran out of stun grenades, then they did not arrive fully prepared for the task in hand.. Or they over used this resource. Or, unforeseen circumstances or practicalities made this difficult to have enough of them... who knows... If you are attacking terrorists barricaded in, then you do not attack head on with stun grenades.. You use other methods, which are more appropriate.
Carrying out building clearance is not necessarily the same context as hostage rescue...what stun grenades were originally designed for. Particularly in light of the fact, that you do not want hostages to be killed by them.. the key is preparation/practice ; setting up of surveillance; clearance of explosive traps (something my mate did as an attachment with the SAS/BS and MI6); detail building studies; multiple entry tactics, diversion tactics; blah blah... You will see by my attachment, that the SAS and SBS meticulously prepare for multiple scenarios... including moving ships; oil rigs, vehicles etc (they pioneered, evolved and invented the majority of strategies..)...

I remember seeing this video some years ago. But now that I play RSS I got more out of this, comtemplating the the tactics, methods, doctrines and strategies explained here to use in the game :D.
And I must now perfect my skill on all the SAS operatives naturally :D. I hope in future they bring some of the gadgets that were displayed here in the game, like the metal cutter for breaching fences (then you could use Bandits device on the fence xD to prevent or slow fence breaching) and the hooligan-bar for example. It would be badass to approach and breach a building using a vehicle with the ladders as well xD.
Sledges hammer kinda fills the role of that big ass hammer Stone snapped that door in with :D. I just love Eddie's laconic style of output on this series :D. The another episode of this series where he's in the role of the captured operative being interrogated, he's goddamned sublime in it xD.

As an American I have to say this group is the BEST in the world. We Americans like to think our SEALS are number 1....and they are damned good. Really good. But the world leaders in Special Forces, counter terrorism techniques and all out badasses are and always will be SAS. These men are the road maps to all other Special Forces in the world. Think they are badasses now? Should look into their history during WWII. They were formed from an idea and a man with a con-plan, and up from the ashes arise the BEST Special Forces group in the world.
What about Russian special forces? They seem pretty aggressive in their tactics as well but I know nothing of their history nor do I know much about the SAS. Just noticed some similar methods they use.

I have to respectfully disagree with you. The SAS is the granddaddy of counter-terrorism units and they set the standards that others
have followed, but the US Special Mission Units of JSOC (SFOD-D and DEVGRU) bypassed UKSF during the GWOT and are now the gold standard.
Even the SAS units tasked to JSOC task forces during the Iraq War saw that the Americans were working on a whole another level of "Industrial
scale Counter-Terrorism" and leaving the SAS in the dust when it came to launching mission after mission to take down the insurgent networks.
Hell the SAS were hamstrung by UK concerns over possible human rights abuses by the Americans and had to stop working with the US
on a number of occasions. The Americans began to work more closely with the Australian SASR and even Canadian JTF-2 units because
the UKSF was having too many restrictions placed on it by London, to be worth having around at times.
As a firefighter I gotta say the SAS way of using a Haligan with no striking tool is a practice I’d love to apply!

Got to say, I can't help but be super-impressed by the SAS and their professionalism. I'm not in the military or anything but I've always found the SAS professionalism really inspiring and I apply some of their mindset to all kinds of things in my life from their attitude of mental toughness.

Having once been involved in a suspected terrorist attack ( it wasn’t ) accidentally running in-front of a blue transit van full of masked men with MP5’s , which I assume was the SAS as was just after 7/7 I have to say they were incredibly controlled , rolled the window, shouted at me where to move to and then moved on . Only about two hours later when I got where I was going as most roads shut did I realise what had happened .

"When first joining the SAS, most soldiers arrive with no experience firing either a pistol or a submachine gun." Something about SAS operators being hand picked elite soldiers tells me this is bullshit.
They are not chosen they choose to attempt to join the SAS
***** Nope, that's the Paras, the Parachute Regiment. Once you've done a certain amount of time in the Armed Forces (I think it's 6 years or 6 tours or something, I may be wrong) you can apply and go through Basic. Then once you come out you're an SAS trooper, well if you can make it through.
Selection is held twice a year. All soldiers who have been in the military for 3 years or more can go, as long as they get permission from their current unit. If you fail, you get RTU'd and may try again once more in the future. They don't handpick you, you have to prove that your worthy enough by passing the selection process.
***** Complete nonsense, the SAS does not ask anyone to join.

Also you are right they were formed by that particular president in 1942 in responce to the attack on pearl harbour. Its a good thing to that you finally made a group with some degree of intelligence considering the monumental fuck up pearl harbour was. Also if you actually read the history youll find the SAS was founded in 1941 and was originally regiment from the LRDG again if you read my post you would of known that. in 1947 it was then turned into a territorial army and in 1950 was redesigned into a corps. Also your navy seals it was originally founded by a ex member of the british SAS His name is Sergeant Thomas L. Curtis he was selected from the Observer Group and was sent to the United Kingdom to train with the British Royal Marines (guys that become the SAS) and subsequently was transferred to Office of Strategic Services (precursor to the Central Intelligence Agency).. Not sure if your a troll but meh someone has to teach you inbred american hicks your own history considering you dont seem to know it to well. If you like ill even give you references to prove your stupid american ass wrong

In the coming years I'll be training in the Basic Reconnaissance Course for Marines. I'm not even enlisted yet but I know that that is what I want to do. I have the utmost respect for all members of every single special operations group across the globe from the most revered S.A.S. to the highly feared Navy SEALS, it is a brotherhood that I look forward to joining. And btw Scottish special operators are just too badass for this universe to handle ;)

@@jamiestewart48 Wow what a blast from the past! I did become a Marine but I was a reservist. My occupation was Bulk Fuel Specialist. We were tasked with prepping and storing fuel for vehicles. I was in from 2013-2016 when I was discharged generally under honorable conditions because I failed my PFT test. I'm currently in school going for a PhD in Electrical Engineering. I'm so embarrassed by how cringey this comment is but I'm glad I got to revisit this all these years later. Thanks for that. 👍🏿

I've always wondered why the SAS wear the gas masks as default. Other SOF such as the GIGN and the GSG-9 wear clear face shields, but in games such as CS go and RSS, even videos such as this, they are always shown as wearing gas masks. Anyone know?
They have specific eye guards build in to the gas mask, these greatly reduce the effects of a flash-bang/concussion grenades; The SAS use these types of grenades on every mission of counterterrorism. With these they're able to make use of them in a swift attack.
They do still wear the black kit, when it calls for it.
They wear pretty much anything for every scenario. dont be dumb

Sgt Macleese junior died in Sangin, Helmand. Member of the rifles. Mad how his dad was slotting provos in Ireland and doing mental high risk SAS missions in the 80's and "beat the clock" but his son die's from and IED in Afghan. RIP brother, see you in Valhalla, true warrior family!
