Blind cants can hunt and fight and jayfeather has "the powers of the stars in his paws" He is navigate fairly well in the beginning but they make him seem more and more helpless as time goes on. He can see the image of mice in his head and hunt but can't see the.image of cats. And even so The smell and sound of a cat from a rival clan is bound to be more prevelent then a TREE and WATER Which apparently he can smell and feel in the wind. Not only that but fighting in a team with a sibling or another warrior would be better then telling him to accept his misery because his disability is preventing him from happiness. Would be a way better AND more realistic message if they found a way to train him to be warrior and thought outside the box rather then deciding all cats with more then one blind eye all need to be medicine cats or elders. I don't know why, but this made me think of how cute it would have been for Brightheart to have been Dovepaw's mentor. I mean, Brightheart is such a sweet, calm, understanding cat, and Dovepaw was really goodhearted and just wanted to be everyone's friend(she crossed windclan border just to check up on whats-her-name because she thought traveling together made them friends, and wanted to make sure she was ok, which i found really adorable). Idk, I just feel like Brightheart would have been much more understanding of Dovepaw than lionblaze was, even if she didn't know about the prophecy. She at the very least would have acknowledged something was worrying Dovepaw, and maybe would have tried to help smooth over her's and Ivy's relationship. I just... I really like these two, ok?

In the darkest hour Firestar has Brightheart and Cloudtail teach everyone some half-blind cat fighting moves because he recognises that they'll be useful if someone gets temporarily blinded in battle. Brightheart doesn't necessary need to have a full time apprentice, bur I don't see why she can't do just a few training sessions with the apprentices at least. But now she's an elder, so... I guess that won't happen.
Separating Jaypaw and Brightheart was a mistake. Brightheart was the only cat in existence with enough concentrated niceness energy to balance out Jaypaw's infinite hatred.
Brightheart would have been an epic mentor as she could teach young warriors to use their other sences better and more aware lime how she has to be and since she has 1 eye she can teach her techniques to the other warriors for if they ever loose an eye. She was definitely a missed opportunity as a mentor
I love how they put so much effort into showing Brightheart is just as capable as any warrior, only to never give her an apprentice until a blind kit came along, and once that didn’t work out, never give her an apprentice ever again. Like it’s really hard to believe you mean it if you clearly don’t think she’s capable of being a mentor.
This is why The Last Hope is my favorite book. Also Firestar was the one who renamed her because he thought it was cruel to be named Lostface! Older Firestar turned into a bag of empty chips. He discriminates Brightheart because she only had Jaypaw for a little bit JUST because she only has one eye, BRIGHTHEART NEEDS MORE ATTENTION, ERINS!!
