Steven Universe fans are some of the best at predicting major occurrences within the show, but they are not perfect and get things wrong once in a while. A newer theory about Rose keeping her eyes shut in all of her photos is that she feared that flash photography could reveal her diamond pupils, so as a precaution she kept her eyes shut.
Oh that could explain it.
I see it more as it looks more graceful and modern and whatever other words there are. Rose (before she was revealed as Pink Diamond) was shown as a strong, elegant leader. Her appearance, thoughts, voice, everything was shown as beautiful and peaceful (not talking about the war, but even then she started the war to let other gems be free). Her with her eyes closed shows how elegant she was supposed to be and so forth.

It actually seems like the physical appearance of a fusion depends on the relationship of the participants, or at least how well they go together. Ruby and Sapphire are polar opposites, and therefore balance each other out perfectly. This makes them appear more like a singular gem when fused. Lapis and Jasper do not like each other, are not compatible and are a PERFECT metaphor for a toxic, abusive relationship. So when they are fused, they create a huge, six-armed and frankly terrifying looking creature.
This can also be used on other fusions. For example, Pearl and Amethyst care about each other, but their personalities aren't very compatible. So Opal isn't exactly horrid, but she has an extra set of arms and is fairly tall.
Or Garnet and Amethyst, they also care for each other but their personalities are destructive and unhealthy when fused together, so Sugilite is extremely tall and has more arms, etc etc
also Amethyst has a severe issue with pearl's holier than thou attitude.

Emma again it’s mainly on how a gem is. If you notice, when a gem fuses with pearl, it usually has an extra pair of arms, mainly around the waist except for in Rainbow Quartz’s case. With Amethyst, the extra arms are connected to the first set of arms, like how Smoky has one connected at her elbow on the left side. With Garnet, the fusions gain extra eyes. For rainbow quartz, she gains extra eyes, but nothing else except for height, but we don’t know enough about rose/PD so that’s hard to decipher

I think they always kept Rose's eyes closed to keep her more distant, it made it more apparent that there was something missing. It also looks a little like she was asleep, which makes her seem more pure and innocent, making sure we liked the character although we hadn't met her. This would help with the "wait, what?!" Moment when we find out she SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS shattered pink diamond.

I don't think it is right to describe Sapphire and Ruby as co-dependent. They do have a relationship that relies on trust in one-another and they're significantly stronger together than apart BUT their relationship teaches us about balance and that sustaining a healthy relationship requires self-love, not merely a common goal. I've experienced a co-dependent relationship before and take it from me, they're NOT healthy. Garnet is.

This is extremely unlikely, to the point of near impossiblity, as Undertale (and by extension Sans) did not exist when the birthday episode was made, episodes are released around a year after they are made. So the possiblity that Steven and Sans are one in the same is impossible.

There were also theories that more human-looking fusions are more "perfect," that Pearls were guards or mechanics, that Sapphire had two eyes, that Peridot was a gem-powered robot or that her body was all Gem-projected, and that Rose or the Crystal Gems put Lapis in the mirror.

I honestly still believe in the first one. It seems to make sense.
Then why has Garnet basically not changed from "The Answer" to now, even though Ruby and Sapphire have gone from hardly knowing each other to being totally in-synch? Or why has Opal not changed from "Giant Woman" to "Log Date," even though Pearl and Amethyst get along much better now?

Officially, it's just whatever looks cool. But my guess is that extra body parts are related to the strengths that the Gems fusing gain by working together. Pearl and Amethyst are capable of doing great things when they work together, so Opal has extra arms. Ruby and Sapphire can share new perspectives with each other, so Garnet has extra eyes. And Jasper and Lapis are both super powerful, so if they really worked together it would be as terrifying as Malachite looks. Gems of the same kind just have the same attributes, though, so they don't gain extra body parts by fusing, they just get bigger.

True, but there's so much evidence against it. The fact she is a Rose Quartz, the fact she has the wrong gem cut, she wouldn't be able to shapeshift THAT long, learning that a name isn't just a title considering how in the episode "Gem Drill" Peridot talks about how she is made of periditite, showing how her shields diamond insignia doesn't show much or confirm when compared to the yellow diamond on Japsers crash helmet. Personally, I assume that Rose was once a part with Pink Diamonds court as a bit of equivalent to Jasper and Yellow Diamond since they're both Quartz. Seems more logical in my opinion, but none of us really know what the creators will do in the future for upcoming episodes.

am i the only one who finds it fascinating that we think of garnet, ruby, and sapphire as different people but we think of fusions like.. Stevonnie as fusions rather than people like Garnet? Most people see Garnet as a separate entity than ruby and sapphire, instead of a mash up/fusion of them. I just think its really interesting.

Another major fan theory that was debunked was, "Peridot is lacking normal limbs, is limbless, or an amputee", which was proven wrong in "Catch and Release". This was based on Peridot's robotic "limb enhancers".
I never heard that, the only theory i heard was that she had limb enhancers, which turned out to be true

I don’t know why I didn’t see this earlier, but it was basically confirmed early on that Rose was pink diamond. The pupils of blue, and yellow[in the extended trailer] are shaped like diamonds, and the show didn’t show Rose’s eyes until later on. But when they did, during the episode where Greg took Rose to dance on the light up floor, her pupils are shaped like diamonds. That might be why Rebecca didn’t show off her eyes early on.
I had a feeling that maybe Amethyst was in love with Greg before he met Rose and is still feeling rejected from him obliviously not seeing it and falling for Rose instead

I think she meant she's taking a break from theorizing and current theories and would just like to talk about the ones that have been done before and that we already know the outcome of. It's less work, so yes, it's a break.
The theories

4:40 I kinda made my own theory that maybe jasper was apart of a permanent fusion like garnet and lost her other half in the gem war. After possibly years of feeling weak and alone, she forced herself to become stronger and she eventually became stronger thus making her think that fusion was useless. The reason for her having pupils might be do to the fact that she was never able to forget what it was like to be fused.
One thing I wonder is why whenever the crystal gems fuse, the fusion is always a giant woman with four arms, but Garnet is regular sized and has two arms.

I've seen quite a few people debating Rose is Pink Diamond in the comments. I still don't understand this theory. Quartz and Diamonds are two different types of gems and even if it was that she was 'pretending' to be a different gem, Jasper wouldn't have refered to her as Rose in Jailbreak, as we learn that Jasper and Rose faught each other in the war (or atleast had some sort of contact). I'm sure homeworld gems would have recognized her and called her Pink Diamond if that was who she really was. There's also another theory out there that Rose destroyed (or poofed) Pink Diamond during the war and that's why we haven't heard or seen anything about her. I feel like that's a more logical theory.
i personally like the theory that Pink Diamond was helping the rebellion and sacrificed herself so that Rose could use a diamond's power source to send homeworld packin. This would explain why the fusion Sardonyx has pink diamonds as small accents on her outfit, and why Pearl's space suit and first holopearl had diamonds (even though the holopearl was all in shades of blue so the diamond was a light blue, i still believe that, at one point, the star on her chest was once a pink diamond). Why would Pearl keep such a logo around if the Diamonds were technically the Crystal Gems' enemies?
True. It could also be perhaps Pink Diamond wasn't just helping but was the original leader before something happened to her, whatever that might have been. Because we also have to take into account in the episode, The Answer, Garnet calls Rose the leader of the rebellion, but we don't know if Pink Diamond was even still around at this time. So maybe Rose took over as leader. Perhaps Pearl did actually "belong" to Pink Diamond and wasn't seen as a servent but more of an associate and friend. And with Pink Diamond gone Rose was the one she looked to for guidence. We also know that Rose DID have something to do with Pink diamond from the mural on the wall in serious steven since she was holding up a diamond shaped object (possibly a gem). There's definatley a lot of leeway with theories regarding Rose and the Diamonds as we don't really know anything about them.

Like specifically roses gem power is her shield if you see rose from when she found Garnett up to when she was pregnant rose has always looked the same. Why? Because rose has never been poofed how is that possible considering she was in a war? Well diamond is the hardest gem type so maybe her shield is mad of diamond but that's just a theory.
While there is a lot of evidence against the theory, there are some very decent bits of evidence supporting it:
1. Diamond can very-clearly just be a title.
1a. This can be supported by assuming that Diamonds are fusions themselves, which makes way more sense than Diamonds naturally being that huge and powerful (Why would a Diamond be stronger than a Garnet when a Garnet in reality is pretty equal in strength? Why would a Diamond be so huge when in reality they're almost impossible to make large cuts of?)
2. Clearly after the war, the Pink Diamond part of the Diamond Symbol was removed. If Rose truly was the leader of the rebellion, and she wasn't Pink Diamond, then why would they punish such an important and incredibly powerful member of their system for the efforts of one lone Quartz? That would start an even bigger war. Rose destroying Pink Diamond really isn't as plausible as it sounds considering probably no Diamonds other than White Diamond was even on Earth, and even then White Diamond was on the moon and probably got the fuck out of dodge immediately after knowing the war started because they're likely not a fighter even if they're incredibly strong (Their purpose as a Diamond seems to be to find suitable planets and establish colonies. We can't assume either of these were Pink Diamond's job because we never see anything referencing them other than it being a part of the complete Diamond symbol).
3. Why would Rose be so secretive? What is Lion? Or Bismuth? How was she so strong or charismatic or strategical (Both of those are something Quartz soldiers probably shouldn't have and would be designed not to have)? How was she able to convince likely thousands of gems to finally stand up to the Diamonds in such a short period (For gems anyway)?
4. Finally, Silicon, the main ingredient of Quartz, is in the same group as Carbon, the main ingredient for Diamonds. Because of this, they share many properties with each other and chemically act very similar. A fusion of a Qaurtz with something else, in the SU universe, likely could create a diamond.
going based by your first points, why would Lapis Lazuli have water as a power when, in reality it dissolves in water? why would Sapphires be more rare than Rubies if, in real life, it's the opposite? Why would Peridot say that the Diamonds are "flawless" when, in actuality, a diamond needs to be flawed in order to have color? If Jasper can instantly recognize that Amethyst is flawed just by looking at her, then why not by looking at a diamond?
i think it's safe to say that the Crewniverse isn't using 100% real life logic when making Gems. That's why Diamonds are so much bigger and have much higher power. because the crew said so. it could have something to do with the correlations between diamonds being very valuable and well sought after, as well as them being one of the hardest, nonmetal substances on the planet.
i feel it's not possible for Diamonds to be fusions. Gems can tell one another is a fusion simple by looking at each other. Plus, it's clearly established that being fused for any reason other than battle if very frowned upon. The Diamonds don't strike me as the type to be the first ones to enter a battle.
Also, Rose defeating Pink Diamond isn't as implausible as it sounds. After all, they discovered Garnet close to the beginning of the rebellion, so they had plenty of time to test out fusions, such as Rainbow Quartz, and even the Temple Statue Fusion. Plus, seeing Yellow Diamond's behavior at when a gem fails a mission, or proves to be incompetent, shows that she will not accept failures. The same could be said for Blue Diamond, who was clearly ready to shatter Ruby for accidental fusion as well as punish her only Sapphire, in some way, for not predicting the correct events. If Pink Diamond failed to bring the rebellion to an end, then the other Diamonds wouldn't see a point in keeping her memory around. In fact, they would want to erase all images of PD to prevent other gems from seeing the Diamonds as weak or inferior. If Pink Diamond supported Rose, then that's even more of a reason for the Diamonds to wipe her image off of everything.
As for Pink Diamond's role, many people speculate that it was establishing Kindergartens. Although, the only real evidence of that is how Amethyst's Kindergarten is surrounded by red and reddish gems, not only on the drills but around the warp too. Once Pink Diamond was out of the picture, the duties of establishing Kindergartens and breeding warriors fell to Yellow Diamond.
The reason for Rose being so strategical and strong was because she was supposed to be. Quartz gems are warriors, but they also have to act on their own. As i said before, Diamonds don't strike me as the type that would be the first ones on the battlefield. they would need generals/representatives to do the leading for them when they can't be there, or simply don't feel like wasting their time being there.
And Rose should have been able to gather enough gems for the war. Ruby and Sapphire met 5,750 years ago, back when the war was just a small group of rebels. And Pearl makes mention of fighting an 1,000 year war for Earth's independence. So, for about 4,700 years, HomeWorld treated this as just an uprising. It wasn't until Rose had enough numbers that they began seeing it as an actual war. Besides, 5,000+ years seems more than enough to gather up like-minded gems.
The whole Silicon thing being related to carbon doesn't necessarily mean Rose is, or is related to, Pink Diamond. The Crewniverse does whatever they want when it comes to applying real world facts on gemstones to the Gems of the show (whether it actually be fact for fact, purely ironic, or coincidental). If anything, having Quartz Gems share a similarity to Diamonds might be the reason why Quartz are so commonly produced, yet not seen as inferior because of their numbers. There are hundreds of Pearls, hundreds of Rubies, and most likely, hundreds of warrior Quartz, yet only Quartz gems seem to have power and status. Enough so, for Jasper to demand that Rose Quartz takes priority to the Cluster and for Yellow Diamond to consider Jasper as the actual leader of the Earth Mission.
Quartz are intensely strong and loyal warriors. They are strategical and perfect for the role of a General or even a right hand man to a diamond. If a diamond doesn't have to engage in something they deem unworthy of their time, they will assign a capable person for the job. if there aren't any capable people around, then the next available servant is sent instead. Hence why Yellow Diamond would send a group of Rubies to Earth; because Jasper was already unavailable. Why she couldn't just send another Quartz or high ranking gem can't be determined at this point.

That is no theory my friend, that is pure fact.
And here I thought for a LOOONG time that Rose and Pink Diamond was two different characters. I kept having different theories about her demise and loyalty, but it was always based upon the fact that Rose and PD was two different gems. That is why I was shocked at "A Single Pale Rose". Bam, ONE scene in that episode crushed a sea of different theories that I had build up since we started hearing about PD.
Smart choice on not putting pink diamond was rose in this, because us in the future now know the truth of why rose quartz is actually a horrible person.
